From a private traders point of view…
From a private traders point of view this was an awful experience. I did the fair in Chessington. This event had so much potential, however it was not advertised in the local press, radio or even in the local shops - not even in the window of their own shop! Friends of mine locally, into the Rocking scene had no idea it was on, until I told them. There was a banner put up in the road a couple of days before, and that was it. On speaking to visitors, I discovered 100% of the people who stopped to look at my stall and chatted, had come because of the Jive competition, that they heard about at the last Jukebox Fair, NOT through advertising, and they hadn't come to shop. With the exception of the guy next to me selling vinyl, all my neighbouring stallholders had either lost money or just broken even - The stall cost £150 for two days, which had the footfall been acceptable, would have been fine. My prices were low, and I had some lovely original and repro dresses, shoes, homewares and accessories, which weren't even rummaged through, due to the footfall of shoppers being so low. Don't waste your money - stick to ebay, at least that only costs 20% - I put a lot of effort into organising my stuff, and felt totally ripped off.
