Cat heaven, human hell

Went here for my birthday. The cafe charged a £25 surcharge to enter for the 4 of us- 2 adults, 2 kids. There was no dough products- like pizza or paninis which accounted for 2/3rds of the menu. The service was terrible. It took roughly 45 mins for them to bring out 3 omlettes some nuggets and wedges. This would have been ok, had the food been good- it was lukewarm and the omlettes were undercooked- inedible. We saw guests who arrived after us get their food before us and there was no updates on our food running late etc. When the food did arrive it arrived in drips and drabs- not all together. Our food and the kids food were served roughly 20 mins apart which was far from ideal. To top it off our sofa was covered in someones chewing gum which had not been cleaned away- bearing in mind we arrived shortly after opening you’d expect a clean to have been done after the previous day? I unfortunately sat in this chewing gum and when we asked to have this cleaned up the waitress gave us some paper towels and left us to it! Ever try cleaning up sticky gum with a dry napkin? nearly impossible. On leaving we were asked if we enjoyed our visit- to which we raised our experiences. This was met with a response of ‘sorry- hope your next time is a better experience.’ There was nothing about looking to improve/ learn from our poor experience or offering for us to speak to manager/free return or money off the bill - which was, with entry £60- not great for undercooked cafe food. This made the apology seem un-genuine and like the cafe wanted rid of us before we kicked up anymore of a stink. On a side note the cats hardly mingled. They hung around the feeding area situated outside the toilets. I don’t expect the staff to be able to do anything about this but I think the feeding area could be relocated centrally so the cats are around the guests a bit more but understand this may not be possible.
Overall this nearly spoilt my birthday- had this been our only planned trip whilst in Birmingham it would have done. The lack of customer service, the speed of the service and reaction to us sitting basically in chewing gum was unacceptable. The staff were brilliant with the cats- i suspect they need to focus on human customer service. I would recommend some training for the staff and a review of their menu to improve the quality of the food and the timings at which it is served. Coupled with the high cost and the unwillingness to try and rectify our poor experience I would be very wary if planning your visit here and would not recommend. This review is for the Birmingham store. I wish we’d read likewise reviews before as we are not alone in our poor experience.

Afternoon tea, with terrorised cats

We went in for an afternoon tea to the birmingham branch, the food was brilliant and the staff was friendly. However, there was lots of kids in big groups (about 8 or so) trying to see the cats at the same time. Needless to say you could see the cats trying to escape from them. There was also other children trying to jump with toys to get to the cats on the upper cat walkways… I feel like the kitty cafe should be more on top of how many people (children) are trying to run around and find all the cats.

Friendly, helpful, hygienic. 5*****

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Lots of cats to enjoy, just sit quietly and they come and play around you. Food was delicious and the food area was extremely clean. Hygiene was a priority as tables were kept clean at all times. Food came with a protective net cloche. Excellent.

Disappointed visit

Visited the Birmingham branch last week with friends and very excited children.

On entrance got charged £17 welfare cost which wasn't on the online booking system?!!? As children were excited to go in didn't have much choice than to pay it. The girl who served us was lovely and took about 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive with the food taking another 45 minutes. Chased up twice to be told it was coming. When it did arrive it all came out at different times so we couldn't all eat together.

I have since emailed to show the screen shots of the customer journey I had online when booking and where there is no mention of the welfare charge. A colleague called Dejourn replied to apologise and said they have passed on to the Birmingham manager to contact me. No response as of yet!

This was my second visit to the cat…

This was my second visit to the cat cafe in Nottingham and was just as amazing as the first visit!! Brought my mum for her birthday as a surprise and she’s absolutely loved it!! The staff do an amazing job, the cats are all friendly and wonder round with such freedom and ease, the food was great, very nice atmosphere and definitely plan to come again!! 5* 😺

Not a nice place for cats

Kitty cafe feels like a kids play area, there are no age restrictions and cats are left to dodge the grabbing hands of children. Cats have a quiet space they can escape to but are ushered back out every 20 minutes or so to keep customers happy. Only a couple of cats seem relaxed, the rest were on edge and frightened. The cats seem to love the staff and visa versa but staff also seem stressed and overwhelmed with numbers. Ordering anything takes ages and was a bit shabby. Prioritising profits over anything else is definitely how this business operates and its not remotely fair on the animals!!!!!

Cost for the hour of our visit = £68.15, not worth it!

I wish I had read the Trust Pilot reviews before my visit! I pre-ordered our meals via the contact form on the website but the admin team apparently don't communicate with the café so it was never received, The food was average, but they were out of Paninis on a Saturday afternoon so they had to substitute with a wrap that just fell apart, loaded nachos were soggy and cold, jacket potato was crucified.
I paid £12.50 for 3 rubber balloons and cardboard poor quality birthday banner expecting much more for the money.
A really disappointing visit, although cats looked happy and atmosphere was good.
Cost for the hour we were allocated - £68.15, not worth it at all!!!
I won't be visiting again

Poor Cats - Horrible to watch, left early.

Terrible experience from start to finish at the Nottingham Cafe.

We were first seated next to a family with a boy who was constantly terrifying the poor cats, he kept chasing them, tugging at them and banging his feet on the floor as they came anywhere near. As a result I asked if we could move to a quieter table and explained the situation, the girl said yes, no problem and just to let the girl serving know where we had moved to. (but not an ounce of concern for the cats though) We moved to another section in the top part of the cafe and ordered 2 lattes, we pronounced them as in lat lattes, she rudely corrected us and said "do you mean lar lattes"? We then sat in the top section and it was just as bad, children just running everywhere and scaring the cats, the cats running behind sofas, trying to climb up ledges to get out of the way of children who are just allowed to run riot and not be stopped from distressing the cats by staff or their parents. And despite Covid, adults are also walking all around and leaning over you without wearing masks to get to any cats that my have found some peace near your table. About 30 minutes later and still no coffees, I ask the same waitress who took the order if they would be much longer, she said "who did you place the order with" I said you... she said cannot remember I will go and check with the kitchen now. Then she came back without the coffee but said we needed to move as this table was booked, she made a scene in front of the people who were to be seated and said "who said we could sit there in the first place", I stated her colleague at the till. Her colleague had given us permission then came up to us and asked who had given us permission to move, in complete disbelief again, I stated "you did" we told you about the noise and the behaviour of the boy on the table next to us and you said we could move. She said - "well I should not have and you need to go back to your original seats" when we returned there were many seating areas vacant, so I asked if we could sit somewhere else as someone should tell the children to stop pulling the cats backwards as they are trying to climb out of the way, its horrible to see. I said can we just sit in this quiet spot and have our coffees? she said no, but your coffees will not be much longer. So we said dont worry about it we will just leave. There was no apology, she just said OK then. We paid £14 to watch poor cats been terrified and had to deal with the worst customer service I have ever seen. Such a shame as the concept is good, but children should be made to behave, or and have an age limit, people should stay in their section or at least not be allowed to lean over you at your table to grab at the poor cats who are just tryin to stay out of the way. I wish I had read the poor reviews before going, I have since spoken to several people at work who have also been as that was our 1st and last time, they all report similar stories and especially the shocking service. Only when it is very quiet do the cats get some peace and customers enjoy the experience apparently.

If you love cats avoid this place

If you love cats avoid this place. Cats were either high up, out of the way, or dashing about to avoid children and adults trying to touch them. The whole place seemed unorganised, crowds of people around the till, waiting to pay the entrance fee (sorry cat welfare fee) or their food bill after their one hour slot. Girl on till snappy and bossy. We were told to wait for our table and walk around, so we dodged skittery cats followed by children and adults. We eventually sat on a large sofa and ordered tea and cakes. The food was ok and didn’t take too long, but we just sat and watched the chaos around us, as cats ran passed, hid under chairs or found a safe place to relax away from the followers. For an hour that cost nearly £50 for 2 adults/2 children, (cat welfare? plus food) please don’t go, I’m sure knowing cats, they prefer their own space to roam and relax not this packed, unorganised, rushed staff place? Additionally, this was end of December 2021 and not very Covid safe!!

Afternoon tea in Leeds.

We went to the Leeds cafe and had afternoon tea. Food was dry. Obviously prepared hours in advance.
Hardly any cats. We counted 10. Literally have more at home.
Staff looked miserable and patrolling and pacing up and down like a prison officers. Not what we expected.
Will not be going again.

Kitty cafe nottingham

Before I start I just want to mention staff were very friendly and clearly rushed off their feet. Me and my partner booked for 2:15. We arrived on time to be told that our table wasn’t ready. Over 15 mins later of mingling in the foyer around people eating we got seated and ordered our drinks and food. drinks came within 10 mins but food took around half an hour to come, by which point we had already drunk our drinks and a large chunk of our 1 hour time slot had been taken up. My partner ordered the “halloumi stacker” - or should I say salad wrap with 1 tiny bit of halloumi in it. We didn’t even bother to finish our food and left before our 1 hr time slot was up. Agree with other reviews saying that kids were chasing cats and I saw one young girl even pick up a squirming kitten and carry it across the cafe, to which the staff did nothing. I appreciate this isn’t their fault but I think the owners should consider how many bookings they allow in at a time as the place was rammed, and on top of this the time between bookings ending and starting to prevent waiting around. To say we spent just under £40 here we were heavily disappointed. Won’t be going again and will advise others to do the same.

Dissapointed

Yes, nice photos at the kitty cafe but the service... They kicked me out before i got my piece of cake that i paid for, cause my hour was up (even though they served me the food late and i felt i had to hurry to finish), i was a bit embarrassed so didn't even have time to realize about the cake until i was out, so i came back to let them know they haven't served me the cake, so they gave it to me to takeaway despite the fact i was carrying 16 kg on my shoulders (a sleepy baby and a rucsac) and it was cold outside. I asked if i can at least have my cake inside given the fact it was their fault. They said no. I asked dissapointed if at least i have a spoon inside, they said yes. I got out on the bench, tired and cold carrying lots weight and I find out i don't even have a spoon or a napkin. So i ate my cake with my hands on top of my sleepy baby's head dirtying her jacket of sticky chocolate in the process. So no, i don't recommend it. I'd rather go to a shelter to play with cats than to go there again.
I even wrote to them an email to see if they come back with an apology or solution/resolution and they haven't even bothered to answer within a week. So I'll make this review as public as i can . Very dissapointed.

Enjoyable

I always enjoy visiting the café. The cats look well cared for and look happy and relaxed. The food is a little over priced though, but overall its an enjoyable experience.

An experience

Staff are polite and helpful,
Id avoid weekends to avoid children running around.

Milkshakes are disgusting, what you get from you supernarket type.
Cakes delicious,

Children need to be controlled.

Ummm

Ummm, was rather disappointing. Unexpected 6quid entry fee (each, not sure what it was for either, but heyho) to sit in a corner of a cafe that had very frightened cats trying to get away from children prodding them :/ while service was good, the experience overall was kind of sad :( (sorry)

Needs age restrictions!

The decor of the cafe is beautiful and bright, however the experience itself wasn’t great. I feel there should be an age restriction of some sort, every time a cat wanders over to you there is a swarm of young children around your feet shouting and grabbing at it, the cats were terrified most of the time and ran off before you have the chance to even see them properly. And an hour slot simply isn’t long enough when food and drinks can take around 40-45 minutes to arrive, leaving you feeling very rushed.
