The knife was outstanding. Fit and finish was top notch, every detail of the knife was beautifully polished, it came well lubricated, so the action was quite smooth. The edge on it was good, cut nicely, but did have a good bit of a burr on it (nothing that wasn't easily removed). The horn was also beautiful and well finished. Extremely impressed!

Good Knife With Quality Control Issues
In the past year I have ordered a couple of Laguiole-style knives from Laguiole Imports. This time I ordered a 5 Coqs Pocket Knife - Briarwood & Mother of Pearl Inlay (11.27 cm handle length). The knife itself is well made, sharp, has plenty of heft, and appears very functional. However, the quality control of the finished product is subpar.
First, the knife arrived with a lot of polishing compound still on the briarwood. I had to spend several minutes with a microfiber cloth to wipe it all off. The briarwood itself was not well polished, especially considering all the leftover residue, but I can do that myself.
The knife’s folding pivot hinge has a gritty feel and sound. Clearly, the knife hinge was not cleaned up before packing. I used several q-tips and cleaned out a lot of black grit and grime. There’s also some black grime on the metal side scale on the inside of the knife. I’ll need to spend additional time to completely clean out the side scales and hinge, as well as lubricant the hinge pivot.
Additionally, there is some kind of discoloration on the bolster pin at the butt end of the knife. It looks like a small rust spot on the bolster pin, but I am not able to rub it off. It does not affect the knife’s performance.
The website recommended storing the knife in the Randonneur Prestige Leather Knife Sheath for 10 to 13 cm, which I purchased. However, I have to force the knife into the sheath to get the sheath snap to close. The result is that the knife makes a small knob-like bulge at the bottom of the sheath’s backside. The thick cockscombs style safety lock on the knife has rough edges which scratch the leather inside the top of the leather sheath.
If this were a $100 knife, I would look past all the issues. But for $265 plus $54 for the sheath, I would expect better attention to the knife’s finishing details. And, unfortunately, the sheath recommendation for this knife was not well thought-out. Disappointing.
