About The University of Law

Written by the company

With a rich heritage and a reputation for innovation and contemporary teaching practices, we continuously focus on developing the best legal and business minds.

We are the largest provider of legal education, with more law students choosing us than any other UK university in 2023 (HESA 2022/23). What really sets us apart is the guiding principle that future lawyers and business leaders should learn in a realistic, professional and contemporary context, with plenty of practical interactive engagement. That's why we keep our contact hours high and our teaching groups small.

All of our courses – from our undergraduate law degrees to our diverse range of business courses and postgraduate programmes – are designed with a unique, varied and innovative learning approach proven to deliver self-reliant professionals who can compete in the fast changing professional world.

Our track record of excellence in learning and development has helped us establish worldwide connections within the legal and business industries. We provide legal training for 90 of the top 100 law firms in the UK and exclusively deliver SQE training for over 65 leading UK and US law firms.

More than 400 of our lecturers are qualified lawyers and business professionals, and all have extensive practical experience which they are able to pass on to our students. We facilitate this process with high levels of student-to-lecturer contact time and small class sizes - one of the reasons that many firms insist their trainees study with us.

We focus exclusively on practice-based training and give students access to our expert Careers and Employability service database as soon as they accept a place with us. Students also benefit from our pioneering and award-winning pro bono programmes, which allow them to gain valuable work experience by helping real clients from the local community.

We were ranked in the top 10 for our quality of teaching across UK universities in the NSS 2024 (7th in England) and in the Office for Students (OfS) Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023, we were awarded an overall Silver rating, with a Gold rating for Student Experience and Silver rating for the Student Outcomes.

I had a lovely experience as a student

I had a lovely experience as a student. The lecturers were very helpful. The classes were always clean. The assignments were not overwhelming. My project supervisor was present and super helpful. With the help of God and support from my lecturers, I graduated with a distinction in my dissertation and overall. I also got a scholar award from a distinguished association. All in all, I would recommend ULAW Manchester

Some teachers were not helpful

Some teachers were not helpful. They made mistakes many times in making attendance and sent emails regarding absence. That time was really stressful. The thesis supervisor disappointed me whenever I asked her for her reviews on Thesis. The campus was just like a shoping mall. Just some offices and classrooms. I can't say it purposeful built university campus. I will not recommend this university to International Students.

Ulaw, a great place to study

The instructors were absolutely superb, their method of delivering lectures is top-notch.
The flexibility of fees payment is the best when compared to other universities.
The cosmopolitan nature of the students gave me as an international student, a great relief.
The staff members were always polite and ever ready to assist.
It's a great place to study.

Do not study here

Do not study here. Tutors are lovely and I feel bad for them having to work for such a terribly organised University. SFE payments always delayed because of admin errors, timetables made no sense, exams and workshops poorly organised. Please do not get yourself into mounds of student debt for this uni, literally ANYWHERE else beats ULaw. Graduation is held in London in November, despite the fact I studied in Nottingham and finished uni in July like everyone else. Graduation itself was TERRIBLE, oversold pictures so the £60 I paid went to waste as I ran out of time to get my pictures, the lady told me there and then I wouldn’t get a refund so I’m out of pocket.

Worst university

Worst experience with this university. Worst management and no support at all . Management is extremely rude and doesn't admit it's mistake . This university Changes it's own rules to avoid accountability and misguide students and hide relevant information from students. I would never recommend it to anyone. Regretting my decision to waste my time , effort and money on this university. Really disappointing

Student Finance AWFUL

The course and teaching itself is satisfactory, and the only reason I’ve not given a one star review.
HOWEVER, I requested a refund several months ago after cancelling my enrolment early on. Communication has been appalling, assistance from ‘support’ staff has been shocking, and I still haven’t received a single payment of my own money!

Utterly shocking

It is shocking. For the amount of money paid you'd think it'd come with all bells and whistles, but long story short - I am studying LLM with LPC they (1) schedule me for exams on subjects I'm not even signed up for (2) do not understand emails and reply in broken English (3) multi-week delays in responses mean you're outside their regulatory limitations to make applications (4) always provide contradictory advice on internal processes all the time and then wash their hands (5) some teaching materials are 10 years+ outdated but exams require you to have an updated knowledge (6) there is no meaningful comms with the India-based assessment centre. I started to record the calls it's that bad. The course itself is fine (bar some outdated materials but if - and only if - you are in the know you can fish this out) the tutors are generally good but seemingly unaware of the realities of the school. It feels more like a constant exchange with a non-compliant angry litigant in person than studying, I really regret not going to a normal university for this course. I did my degree in the OU and it was like a dream compared to the multiple platforms they employ, combined with neverending IT issues, the clueless admin staff, "student journey advisors" who just ignore you, timetables being always blank on the system, I could go forever. It's amazing that they are still going on and are being recommended by anyone.
Never before I was so stressed so much about a course in my life and it's purely down to the utter mess and incompetence and the fact they don't give a monkey. The only timely emails are from the finance department asking you to pay up. I am perusing taking it further as they should be banned from admitting students. I am an England-based mature student and a trainee solicitor. I went through some tough stuff in my life but never as bad as this, on every level. Avoid at all costs, pay more to do it somewhere else, this is not a good way to get your qualifications and you will get extremely frustrated.

The courses are good.

The courses are good.

However, when it comes to support mainly financial support there is no support and its all a show to get people to enrol onto a course and simple defraud them plain and simple.

I have asked for support for monthly arrangement plans. The Finance Department are so incompetent, lack of empathy and support. It does seem that the Finance Department are outsourced which explains the lack of financial support methods. I have been trying to arrange this since December last year the support I got was neither here and there and it is still ongoing.

Don't be fooled by the YouTube advertisements to join the University you will regret it.

Very poor process regarding ULET exam orgonised by University of law.. Lots technical problems. No any support background.. I could not log in to my profile properly within half an hour! I had to Download app again.. Every time I was asking to pass my onbording procedure from beginning. During exam after third part administrator just ended my test. To complete it I had to start last part of exam next week.. Extramly frustrated and strssful.. Definitely whole situation had significant impact to my final resault.. I am very angry with it..

ULaw's SQE 2 preparation course.

I was on the SQE 2 preparation course.

The course was exam-oriented, teaching us how to prepare for each practical skill.

It also has exam-oriented textbooks stating what we need to know for the underlying law.

An absolute disgrace

Substandard training materials of such low quality they are of little practical use (criminal higher rights course).
Poor administration. Emails go ignored for days.
Unnecessarily stressful experience. Stress comes not from the subject matter itself or the learning of the law but the never ending hurdles created by the University of Law's incompetence and low level service provision.

Thanks Olivia. I have already emailed the university. They have a detailed email containing 4 examples of nonsensical paragraphs from the text. I will await hearing from the university unless you are saying that for my complaint to be taken seriously I need to resend it to your below email address? Happy to do so and will itemise fuller examples of numerous errors (the 4 examples given were just 4 of the most obvious easy to hand examples) in the text now that the exams have finished and I have more time.

I would hope that a teacher or someone from the university will proof read their training materials to correct errors going forward for students next year in any event. As to the poor administration and delay in replies to emails from students I would appreciate an acknowledgement and response as well. The auto - we will reply within 5 days - university response is not good enough when emails are of an urgent and exam related nature.
