Impressive drive up to a lovely hotel. Period!

Impressive drive up to hotel,in beautiful countryside, but no receptionist on arrival. Mannager, who we never saw again, came soon after, and took us to nice clean room. Went to put bedside light on and found light switch on supply cable missing, and a live wire poking out of the cable!
We asked to report it to manager, 3 times to staff, but he was never available over 3 days stay. We felt a potential serious threat to life was not taken seriously at all, although lamp repaired following day. We found room service overall lacking in attention to detail, with bathroom not cleaned during our stay. Buffet Breakfast each day was a disaster with one waiter only trying to serve about 20 tables. Only over cooked scrambled egg available from heated turreen, i.e no fried, poached or boiled egg available, and breakfast supplies table kept running out of basic items. With 2 or 3 other couples we cristened the event "Faulty Towers" ! It was that bad.
Evening meal was fine, but none of the usual little 'extras' with meal and coffee one expects in a hotel of this class. When we aked for some cakes for our afternoon tea on day 2, we were told we had to give 24 hr notice!
The hotel was clearly very under staffed in every area, and left us with the distinct impression of major cost cutting there to boost profits. Sadly we'd never attend one of the group hotels in future.

Disappoining - The waiter wa but the Afternoon…

The waiter was lovely but the Afternoon Tea was dreadful. The tea had clearly been stored in the fridge, the bread was dry and there was barely any filling to the sandwiches. No quiche, sausage rolls, just four small finger sandwiches. Cakes appeared to be all bought in, very dry and to a poor standard. One sultana in my scone which was also dry as old sticks. Even the jam was more like jelly, no fruit pieces. Quite honestly you can buy nicer sandwiches and cakes in Greggs! Table not cleared just left with used dirty crockery in front of us. Bitterly disappointed.

There is so much to say!

There is so much to say about the place. Location perfect. Staff, friendly, warm, inviting - helpful - I could literally go on and on about the staff!

My wife and I have stayed there 8 times over the last 5 years and will more than likely be staying every year from now to the end of our time!

We loved it so much, on the off chance, I sent an email asking if their wedding offering could be just hiring the venue for the wedding breakfast and evening. I was delighted to find out they did.

From start to wedding day the service and support was amazing. Our wedding planner left the place half way through but that didn't stop the wonderful Stacey stepping in and seeing us through the last 8 months before the big day.

We had a disaster with our wedding cake, the person we had carefully selected through family, let us down majorly and provided what can only be described as a wedding cake from hell! Cracks, wonky, unfinished.

Stacey took this in her stride, spoke with the head chef (who I am told is quite renowned) took a look at it - I am convinced I saw horror in his eyes! But came up with a plan to make it look better, not that it could of looked worse mind.

This was the 8pm the day before the wedding, and fair play whatever he had done, the cake looked good enough for photographs. We didn't eat any of the cake and don't even know what happened to it, it vanished after the photos - not a bad thing.

But even if this hadn't have happened Stacey already had a fake cake ready to rock for photos if the chef couldn't perform miracles.

I was chuffed to see they had won Wedding awards, the hard work they put in really did shine through.

We have now decided that we will be spending every anniversary there and should we win the lottery, put in an offer to live in this wonderful place!

We ADORE staying here !!

We ADORE staying here; the staff are LOVELY, friendly and bend over backwards to make one's stay relaxing. The food is delicious and plentiful with amazing breakfasts..not a buffet but individually prepared.
The rooms are stunning and huge and there are lots of beautiful pieces formerly owned by Sir Bernard and Lady Laura Ashley. Also some covetable paintings by well known artists. On display..not hidden away.
Beautiful grounds and lots to do for families nearby. Nice and remote and so not noisy.
Own hens so delicious very fresh eggs and the hens are free ranging..the girls are happy hens so yummy eggs.
They welcome our sons aged 6 and 11 with open arms and are so friendly to them.
One of the very good ideas here are the outside heated spacious kennels which our 3 dogs stay in. This is unusual and means we can stay there without kennelling. There is no charge whatsoever for kennelling and they are well equipped with doggy beds and bowls and fresh water and pooper bins, and also very clean.
A very special and unique place and we return often and get excited when we book and then breathe in a big relaxing lot of fresh air on arriving knowing we will ALWAYS have a TOP NOTCH STAY! one of the best places ever and cannot recommend enough.
