Tried to push me an “Upgrade” with a bigger yet older car with suspension problem. Had to take it back and get the original car which was perfect (although they forgot to put water in the screen washer system. Found out while driving to the airport). Trying to book via WhatsApp is a disaster and very frustrating.. During the booking process they Try to charge you to wash the car before even renting it with old style sales catch “Pricier penalty if the car comes back dirty” It will take a while before the service is on par with first world countries…

Inadequate service for foreigners at Localiza car rental. Despite being a major rental company in Brazil, Localiza fell short in providing adequate assistance for foreign customers. Online resources were lacking, making it difficult to find necessary information. Upon receiving the car, crucial details such as the exact return location and floor were omitted. Moreover, the additional hourly charges after the fourth hour were not clearly communicated. Overall, the service was merely sufficient and seemed inattentive to the needs of international customers.

I was drawn to Localiza because of their strong reputation and positive reviews, but my experience left me feeling let down by poor organization and hidden costs.
When I arrived at Cancun Airport, I found out their office had moved to a new location, and they only had a couple of vans shuttling customers there. This meant I had to wait 15 minutes for transportation—an inconvenient start to the process. Once I arrived at the office, I selected a child seat from their warehouse, only to discover it was filthy. It had crumbs everywhere, and to my surprise, about ten chickpeas fell out of it.
The car itself was in great condition, but the insurance process was overly complex and expensive. Despite opting for the most comprehensive insurance (full coverage), I was informed it didn’t include third-party liability. I had to purchase a third policy on top of the full coverage, which increased my costs by about 50%. This lack of transparency made it feel like just another sneaky rental company looking to add hidden fees.
On the bright side, their new office was clean and spacious, and the staff were polite and efficient. Returning the car and closing the contract at the end was quicker than with most other rental companies I’ve used.
Overall, while the car and office quality were good, the long wait times, poor communication about the new location, and unexpected insurance costs overshadowed the experience. Localiza may have a good reputation elsewhere, but here in Cancun, it felt like business as usual with the same frustrating issues as other rental companies.

They gave me a car with damaged brakes. Very lucky no one got hurt!!!!!!
They then tried to say I damaged the brakes!!!!!! They gave me a car without brake pads on it!
Then they tried to charge me an extra day on top of that despite returning within the reservation.
Francisco Jose was the CSR who would say one thing on phone and then email something completely different. Spent hours dealing with it and in the end after he agreed he was wrong and would correct his mistakes and get me a new car. he instead tri

I do not recommend Localiza. Our company will never use their service again. During a recent business trip, I had four rentals through the app.
One particularly frustrating situation occurred at São Paulo Guarulhos Airport. I had booked a manual car for R$98,00 via the app. However, upon arriving at the store late at night with a tired baby, I explained that I needed an automatic car. Adriana, the employee who assisted me, had helped me with a previous rental, but she made a new reservation without telling me. I kind new her from that shop since she help before and i thought that i could trust her.
I was alone late night with a baby. Unfortunately, this trust was misplaced. She made a new reservation and charged me R$225,00 for a simple car HB20 Hatch without clearly explaining the cost increase. This didn’t include any extras such as insurance, a baby chair 39,80or the 12% service fee I had to pay later.
To make matters worse, I was renting a Jeep SUV the same day for R$154,00—how could a smaller car cost so much more from the same company?
Later, I realized they had also charged me for a 2x car wash and additional taxes.
When I tried to resolve this, I went to another store, but they couldn’t help and advised me to call the call center.
Since it was a holiday, no one answered. Returning to the store, I was told it was my fault because I signed the contract.
I felt completely deceived and manipulated.
Even after spending over R$5,000 during this trip, Localiza showed zero empathy for their customers. I sent emails and made calls, but no one responded. I’ve also seen others complain about being unfairly charged for car washes on vehicles rented just hours before. Their customer service might seem nice at first, but it’s all a façade—they’ll just take advantage of you in the end.
Don’t trust them!!!
As far I hear the employees do those contracts to gain extra salary benefits but we as clients we already pay more the a fair price.
We will never use Localiza again and strongly advise others to avoid them if you value transparency and honest service.

After returning from my trip I noticed some attempts to charge my credit card from Localiza. I contacted Localiza and they told me that they had undercharged me. The difference wasn’t much, about 20USD, so I just paid it. Then I noticed another charge attempt. Again I contacted them and they said that the car had returned dirty and they needed to charge me a cleaning fee. I had never been charged a cleaning fee, and the car wasn’t any more dirty than one would expect after being used, but I figured the easiest solution would be to just pay it and get on with my life. Then more charges appeared - thankfully my credit card company was still blocking them all. Again I contacted them and they said I had generated speeding fines. I requested the evidence, and they said that the authorities in Brazil didn’t provide photos, dates or location data for speeding fines. But, again wanting to just get on with life, I paid them, hoping that would be the end of it. But no. More mails demanding more payments started arriving, this time without any explanation. They’re just threatening emails saying that they have registered my debts with the authorities in Brazil but I can resolve it if I just send them another payment. I have rented cars in more than 18 countries and never had any of these issues.
I read reviews, for so many companies, and after having issues with a car rental in Poland earlier this year, I was determined to go with the most reliable I could find without breaking the bank, for our trip to Yukatan Mexico. Localiza, were that - they were (mostly) great - although there was nearly an issue, they did resolve it where I think other companies would've likely bailed.
Unfortunately we were delayed flying out by two days, which meant speaking to Localiza over the phone to a wonderfully helpful lady who kindly spoke good english, and called the Cancun office to tell them we were stuck and to ensure they would hold a car for us (I can never understand why this is an issue for any company, I have paid for the car afterall!) I called again the day we flew and was assured by another man the car would be there - but upon arriving, it was taking a while for us to find out how to get to Localiza at the other terminal (they're supposed to run shuttles but it never showed) and calling again to be safe, was told we were down as late and there was no car available. We'd had a very stressful few days trying to get there, so after some assertive pleading, reasoning and explaining, this man was understanding and helpful, eventually telling me they had sourced a car (a return presumably), so that when we eventually arrived the rest went very smoothly.
They've got a good office at terminal 3, once you find it - helpful and friendly staff, and importantly NO pushy up-selling saying you must buy extra insurance (I had policies anyway) that other companies are notorious for. The car was lovely and modern, renault Duster, very clean.
Return was easy and super quick, and they arranged a shuttle for us back to Terminal 2 straight away. Excellent service overall. Car rentals are a minefield but Localiza are definitely one of the good guys. Have faith.

It is always a challenge when anyone goes overseas and have to do business with companies that we don't deal with day to day. On that note I have to say that Localiza Rental have more than fulfilled my expectations. They are very helpful, quick to complete the process, have a great selection and very capable professionals working there and ready to serve the customers. I'm very pleased with the overall experience. I'd recommend them as #1. You can always find something to complain if you really look for , anywhere you go but honestly, I have no complaints. Thank you and hope to be served by you soon.

Localiza at Recife international airport did not have any english speaking staff when I collected my car. I had to keep asking waiting customers to assist me.
Localiza did not recognise or know how a full payment voucher works and would not allow me to change the vehicle to an automatic and would not give me a sat nav. The voucher is open and I never have experienced this ignorant approach to using an open payment voucher.
I had to get another voucher issued so that I could get an automatic.
The vouchers are for one month (only Localiza do this) and I was told that at the end of October the voucher for November will automaticaly be activated - NO, I received threateing emails from very their head office. I had an english speaking Brazilian call them, indifferent, ignorant and not acceptable, I was threatened with police action if I did not sort this out.
They started taking payments from my bank card, which I was forced to hand over when collecting the car (no where else in the world requires a payment card).
I whent back to the airport and spent 3hrs sorting this out. Yes Localiza had the voucher for November, no they did not bother to use it, just charge my card. I was promised a refund. Five days later, they take more money from my card.
Unprofessional, ignorant, indifferent, unhelpful everything you do not want from a car rental service.

On the arrival date at the airport of my car pick up the car hire company Localiza didn’t want to give me the car because apparently my documents had my single name and I made a booking using my marriage surname due to my credit card.
Then I found myself without a car at the airport with my 4 months old daughter. Also the company only opens for a very short time in the afternoon, probably about an hour.
I have already payed for the car so I couldn’t have any refunds.
Localiza refuse to give me the car, later on the same day I went 2 more times to try to get the car ever with my Brazilian driving license but a Lady called Jaqueline refuse.
In the next day morning I have spent another hour on the phone with Localiza company to try getting the car and nothing, still refuse me later on in the day about 17:00pm I decided to go directly to the office in town to talk to the manager. She was very nice and helpful, I finally had the car after almost 2 days later. However she added on extra insurance to my policy which I haven’t asked for, I was unaware of that it I only found out when I drop the car off plus that because I have to go to the other branch at the city centre to pick up the car when I come to drop off at the airport where I have originally rented they also change me for different drop off location.
Well the car wasn’t in the best condition and the fuel was missing.
However I drop off with full tank.
I thought by renting a car at the airport will make my life easier since I was travelling alone with my 4 months old daughter, unfortunately that wasn’t the case, everything was so complicated and stressful, I have to travel by Uber for 2 days to try to short this out because Localiza didn’t want to give the car.
I will never use Opodo and Localiza again.
I have a British and Brazilian driving license valid.

We rented a car by the airport in Medellin, Colombia. The car we got had bad brakes which gave out by the time we arrived in Medellin. We got a replacement, however, the attitude from the counter agent was indifferent. If the brakes would’ve given out on our drive down to Medellin, we probably wouldn’t be here today. The replacement car was slow and it appeared to have issues with the transmission whenever you sped up. I’d stay away from this company. Get an Uber or a taxi to move around the city.

The car was in perfect condition 👌 the only problem was the client that used the car before me smoke alot in the car so the smell disturbed me a little bit but everything else was perfect.

Terrible organization, upon delivery they tried to bill me 5x the agreed price, which had already been paid in full at the start of the rental!
Terrible customer service, it's been over 2 hours trying to pay some speeding fines, they keep bouncing me back and forward between departments, and can't give matching information on what payments are pending, and what they refer to, offering to pay "everything" but missing some fines, why do I have to do your job for you of telling what hasn't been paid yet? Are you trying to collect interest by omitting open invoices?
Terrible web services, webpages get stuck on a refresh-loop and don't let you continue. 2FA doesn't send any codes and errors out without information other than "error".
The only positive point was that I was able to replace the car after a flat tire, which is their obligation, and they still wanted me to drive the car to the auto shop to patch the hole for them..
