They recommended a tiler that fobbed me off almost 2 weeks after taking £550 off me for materials. When I spoke to them they were pretty unhelpful and didn’t even reply to my email. When the guy did turn up he was useless and was blaming the tiles. I told him to go home and got someone else.

Hi Nona. Many thanks for the kind words, it's greatly appreciated.

The look I was after. Good things come to those with patience.

Longer lead in time than planned owing to delays on one batch of tiles integral to pattern, then my fitters ill health then some missing tiles from delivery pallet. The fit took longer than anticipated - akin to a jigsaw so a decent daily rate invoked, finally completed in New Year.

Whilst the setbacks on both sides unwelcome, the end result was worth the wait. Pricey but exquisite. Both the design and sales team were attentive and helpful throughout. Wouldn’t entertain the bespoke complex pattern without the extra cost of sheeted offering.

A big outlay to trust on a website and phone call alone, but reassured by professionalism of company and their length of time trading in the industry.

Hassle-free and quick turn around of order.

I especially appreciated how well the packaging of my tiles had been done - boxes not overly packed with lots of protection.

Beautiful Tiles

We are thrilled with the tiles we purchased from London Mosaic to restore the porch of our Victorian property. Everyone at London Mosaic, was so helpful and patient from my initial inquiry, during the design process and placing the order. The tiles are beautiful and our tiler was very impressed with the accuracy of the measurements and the ease in laying the tiles with the template to follow.

Fantastic experience

Fantastic experience with London Mosaics from start to finish. From guiding us through the initial design through to planning and ordering and delivery - every part was professional and pleasant. And very patient, as our front path unexpectedly needed to be dug up causing delays. Finally the referral to Geometric Tiling was brilliant - they were like true artists in their planning and execution leaving us absolutely thrilled with our finished path. Highly recommend the product and all concerned parties.

Great Service

My experience with London Mosaic has been absolutely wonderful throughout the entire process and I couldn’t be happier with my tiles!

I spoke to a lovely gentleman who assisted me throughout the entire process, ensuring that I received a design that worked for me.

The sheeted service was more than worth it as our tiler was able to finish the job just before we went on Holiday because of how quick and easy they were to lay!

Will certainly be using you again!

Sheeted tiles are NOT worth the money

We purchased a custom Edwardian mosaic tile design from London Mosaic for our hallway.

On the positive side, the tiles are high quality (imported from Winckelmans in France) and the designs are beautiful.

However, our experience with the installation and after-care has left a lot to be desired.

We went with LM's "Sheeted Tiles", at a 30% markup compared to loose tiles, based on the purported benefit that it would reduce the labour needed to install them.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Specifically:
• The plastic sheeting over the tiles made it very difficult to level the individual tiles underneath each plastic sheet. Pushing down on the corner of one tile would pull on an adjacent tile. If an individual tile is angled too low in one corner it is very difficult to "right" it, requiring the opposite end of the tile to be pushed down, potentially impacting surrounding tiles due to the plastic (which then in turn need to be fixed, etc.).

• The plastic also tends to hide differences in height between the individual tiles which only becomes evident once the adhesive is set and the plastic is removed. We have literally a hundred sharp edges between tiles which are too close together for grout to smooth out the height difference.

• The plastic sheets make it impossible to remove excess adhesive which is pushed up into the tiny spaces between the tiles when the sheets of tiles are lightly pressed onto the adhesive. After we pulled the plastic off we found many areas where adhesive is flush with the tops of surrounding tiles, requiring it to be painstakingly removed.

My tiler has spent the last 2 weeks pulling up large numbers of individual tiles, painstakingly sanding adhesive off them, then relaying them in order to deal with excess adhesive in gaps (which prevents grouting) and sharp edges due to different heights of adjacent tiles.

Quite contrary to the claimed benefit of Sheeted Tiles, this process is taking far longer than it would have to simply lay the tiles individually.

Perhaps if you have a tiler who is familiar working with the sheet system it could go better, but LM's marketing certainly doesn't present it that way (it's presented as an option explicitly not requiring tradesmen experienced with Victorian tile patterns). There is also very little information provided to aid installation and avoid pitfalls other than the an image of the layout.

I'd strongly advise anyone considering Sheeted Tiles to avoid them like the plague and to just buy them loose and get an expert tiler in.

Lastly, I provided this feedback to London Mosaic directly and have not received any kind of response. For a high-end, high-margin, bespoke product such as this, that's very disappointing.

Dear Tom,

We are sorry to hear about the issues your tiler faced when installing our sheeted tiles product.

From your description of the problems, unfortunately, it sounds like your tiler was using too much adhesive.

In regard to the inconsistent grout gaps, this is normal for Victorian style geometric patterns, as the designs use lots of different shapes and sizes of tile.

The "indirect" method of assembling mosaic tiles on sheets before installation has a long history, dating back as far as Roman times.

Sheeted tiles are very common - using mesh backing, or paper faced with glue, or a clear adhesive film.

Our sheeted system differs in that we also 'bespoke' assemble the mosaic tiles to fit the dimensions provided.

Our sheeted tile kits have facilitated many thousands of successful installations over the past decade.

We do hope your tiler can fix up his installation to your satisfaction.

If we can be of further help, or your tiler needs any technical assistance, please do get in touch.

Yours sincerely,
The team at London Mosaic.

Despite some initial problems, the service was exceptional...

I bought floor tiles to re-surface a vestibule in a Victorian house.

The service I initially received from the "planner" wasn't great, concerning logistics and the design. However, when I escalated the issues to "management", the service was exceptional. Jessica Gjini (Sales Manager) apologised & quickly resolved all problems, as a result despite some initial "challenges", I am awarding 5 Stars, because as soon as they realised there was an issue they went the extra mile...

I would definitely use them again as a result.

What they dont tell you...

I ordered some tiles from London Mosaic for a garden path, i gave them a drawing with clear dimensions showing the exact area.

I then received a quote from one of their designers, no plan was attached so i assumed that they used mine.

When the tiles were ready to be dispatched, i received a plan, which didnt match mine. I pointed this out saying that there would be a risk that too many tiles had been included and i was told not to worry.

The tiles have been fitted and sure enough, there are too many. If this wasnt bad enough, i now find that if i return them i get hit with a 40% restocking charge. I work in the construction industry and the average is 20%, but its insulting and infuriating to find that i am being forced to pay for London Stone's mistake.

Dear Richard. Apologies for the delay responding here. We have investigated, and there was a misunderstanding over the measurements on our part. The sales team will be in touch shortly to refund you correctly for the excess tiles we supplied.

Superb quality products delivered on…

Superb quality products delivered on time and expertly packaged. A great company to deal with from start to finish. Excellent communication from all departments especially the design team who were able to offer us a number of design options to improve the hallway.
Initially, we were unfortunate enough to select the wrong tiler to carry out the installation of our hallway tiles and due to poor workmanship had to remove them.
London Mosaic (LM) were very helpful finding us a skilled tiler and and ensuring we had all we needed to complete our hallway. LM went above and beyond the normal level of customer service we had expected to ensure we were able to realise our vision.
Would highly recommend London Mosaic and will no doubt use them again.
