Essential and useful service

Have used lsbud twice now and the service is excellent. You're quickly provided with an email containing printable PDFs showing gas and electricity utilities and their locations in the area of interest, as well as essential contact and safety information too.

Not just recommended, but essential that the service is used before work commences.

If only Southern Water could also be on it too it would be perfect!

LSBUD - room for improvement

LSBUD provides the services information we require for a couple of the utilities in our area, unfortunately given the nature of our work in local government the process required to apply for the information is overcomplicated with many required fields not relevant - we hardly ever have a forthcoming job with start dates or site contacts so have to make something up. Also the email format that results are received in could be improved - identical subject headings from different services cause issues when saving/forwarding the information. A reference to which utility company in the subject heading to distinguish between them would be good.

Exceptionally well-designed web facility!

An incredibly simple (and free!) way to get information about underground gas pipes and electricity cables. It's unfortunate that the system doesn't embrace water pipes at my location too but the system itself is extremely intuitive, even for a private individual (rather than for a contractor planning works). Hopefully I'll now be able to insert an earthing rod for my amateur radio transceiver without piercing any pipes or cables!

LSBUD - great service!

I fused LSBud for the 1st time today. I'm not good with computers so phoned for support. Sam on their helpline was absolutely fantastic, patient and clear, and guided me through the system. I found out which utility companies and services might be affected by what I want to do (and which have not yet registered!). Good system and an outstanding phone support service!

I wish all SUs were on LSBUD.

I wish all utilities were on LSBUD.
Individual utilities maintaining whole departments each with wildly different methods of working is an unnecessary overhead expense for each of them and an unwanted inconvenience for those of us planning to break ground - or the air above it !!

The utility owners in my area

The utility owners in my area, East Yorkshire, is not available, as they are not members of this service. They did provided emails address where I can obtain the information. A lot of KYC information was also unsettling.

I had an issue where the link from the…

I had an issue where the link from the network provider went into my email server spam (even no other emails from the provider had). By the time I realised the link had expired. I rang the helpline and requested the link to be resent, it was not. It took 3 more calls to get it resolved. Their helpline number is an 0845. I did not realise this was a charged number and incurred £5.80 in call charges from my mobile (significant given the fee for the plan was £18).

Works ok, but needs practice!

It was suggested by one of the power suppliers that I use this to obtain a map of the area where work was required. As a first time user, I found it a bit tricky on a smartphone, and accidentally submitted the form before writing some additional information. However, it provided an accurate map and delivered the details to the company. If I use it again I'll do it from my laptop.

Awful service

Awful service, terrible map.
Go direct to the services who may be affected when digging as linesearchbeforeyoudig is a waste of time. Hardly anyone is registered with them. The map is terrible where you have to search you dig location and after entering all the info the main services that you need that cat scan won’t pick up gas/water are not registered with them Cadent/affinity in my case.

With respect, we disagree in the numbers of Members registered- there are over 90 with almost a million kilometres of utility networks between them. We are sorry that you haven't enjoyed using the map which is fed directly from the Ordnance Survey. Every time you search (for free), you are checking all of these 90+ asset owners in a simple easy search so even if they have not come up in your area, it has helped you work safely knowing that you are not near those assets that could seriously hurt you and your team.

Cadent is a Member of ours (as are SGN and Wales & West Utilities as major gas networks across the country) so if you need advice on how to work safely near their assets, please do not hesitate to contact us.
