I booked a car with Lutam and cancelled…

I booked a car with Lutam and cancelled the booking on the same day it was supposed to be collected due to unacceptable rental conditions. The terms and conditions were not available on their website, and only when we arrived were we handed a booklet and told to read them on the spot. This is completely unprofessional and misleading.

The company confirmed in writing that a refund would be issued within a specified number of days. It has now been over 7 weeks, and the money has still not been returned.

Despite sending multiple emails, we have received no response whatsoever.

This company operates in a very questionable and dishonest manner. I strongly warn others to think twice before booking with Lutam, as they do not honor their own refund commitments.

Really disappointed with this car hire- do not use
They said they were open to 9pm
They closed at 7pm - we couldn’t hire car , we had to book a taxi to our destination- costing 450 euro return and the car hire wouldn’t give us any money back for not hiring car- as they closed earlier than we expected .

Lutam is a scam, lutam lutam is a scam!!

Seriously.. avoid this car rental place if you can. Just book one in the airport and save yourself A LOT of hassle.

Cannot check out before 8.30 am,, even though there are 2 employees sat in the office on their arse doing nothing at 8am.. early check in fee is 80 euros!!

AND THEN to have the cheek of charging us an extra 200 euros. That car had no marks on it and was clean as anything..

LUTAM LUTAM IS A SCAM!!

Upon inspection, we noticed a damage on the rear bumper.

I was really pleasantly surprised by…

I was really pleasantly surprised by this company.

They are not located in the normal airport car hire place and I was thinking it was going to be a real nightmare to find them but you only just need to take the free shuttle bus to one of the car parks and they are right next door to that.

They're actually located in the lobby of the Radisson Hotel and if you've ever hired a car from the Nice airport car hire place you'll know what a nightmare it is often they're a huge queues and there isn't enough seating.

In lobby of the Radisson Hotel there is lovely seating and there were no queues whatsoever.

The staff were pleasant and apparently this is a family owned car hire company. They were quite accommodating of our needs.

I would say it was quite different to a standard multinational car hire company. It definitely felt more like a small family-owned company and some things were quite different.

When I brought the car back they told me it was quite dirty (it was, it was quite sandy) and there would be a 60 Euro charge for cleaning. However they also said that they would lend me their hoover if I wanted to clean it and then they wouldn't charge me so I just hoovered before giving it back to them.

Of course this would have been a bit of a nightmare if you were late for your plane, luckily I had time so it was fine.

I kind of felt this was a bit more real than other companies and often when you hire a car you can be quite disrespectful and treat it not like you would treat your own car, getting it really filthy and then just expecting someone else to clean it. We could probably all do with a bit more respect for the people that serve us.

Anyway they were also very reasonably priced so I was happy.

Extra fees for nothing!

I have rented cars with Lutam for many years, always been happy with them.
This trip to Nice they have changed. They charged me 72 euro for leaving the car before they open, my booking ended before they opened 😂
They also charged me 60 euro for saying the car was to dirty, the car had been driven 2 weeks in summertime.
A shame that they dont value their customers more.

I expect to be ripped off by rental car…

I expect to be ripped off by rental car companies and managed to avoid it by planning and preparation. Anyone who doesn’t prepare will get fined! Lutam say the Nice rental is on site, it isn’t it’s outside the perimeter and a 20 minute walk. They say you bring the car back with the same level of fuel as you began with, you don’t, it’s full to full AND you have to provide a receipt for the fuel purchase even if the tank shows full. Not always east finding a garage which provides a receipt - I had to drive around for 1/2hr. They told me at reception I had a brand new car, it wasn’t, it was nearly new but I found damage to the front bumper that wasn’t recorded - had I not spotted it I guarantee they’d have blamed me for it which would have cost me at least 1350 euros.

Renting with Lutam at Nice airport might be worth it if it’s significantly cheaper

Renting with Lutam at Nice airport might be worth it if it saves a significant amount over the other rental companies. If you fly into terminal 2, it’s a ( free) tram ride then a 5 minute walk away, but slightly tricky to find. If you are flying into terminal 1 you can walk there directly in about 8 minutes but again it’s not clearly signposted so you’ll need google maps. On the plus side, staff were friendly, being a small company we didn’t have to queue and the car was bigger and newer than we had expected. On the negative side, as well as the distance from the terminal, the underground carpark is really difficult to get in and out of ( it made me wish I’d taken out additional insurance and we saw car scratch marks on lots of the walls!), they are very thorough on checking for any damage on return so you need to make sure any damage is clearly recorded when you pick up the car, they will give you a vacuum to clean out the car unless you return it in near perfect condition inside - which is ok unless you are running late for your flight which you might be as it’s even harder to find company when you return the car.
It wasn’t a wholly negative experience and the car was actually great, but the other companies are much more convenient especially if you are flying from terminal 2, and I’d probably only use Lutam again if I was flying into terminal 1 and there was a significant saving.

Review:the worst company ever

I had a terrible experience with this rental company. When I wanted to return the car at 7 AM, they informed me that, according to their policy, I would be charged an additional €72. However, when I initially picked up the car, no one mentioned this.

When I returned the car, no staff were present. I asked their representative who would inspect the vehicle, and they simply told me, “We will check it later.” I raised concerns about potential false damage claims, but they assured me it was based on “trust.” Unfortunately, I had already paid and had no choice but to proceed with the rental.

As expected, after I left the car and traveled, they sent me a report claiming there was damage—despite the fact that I had taken a video proving otherwise! They then withheld my €1,500 deposit.

This is by far the worst rental company I have ever dealt with. I strongly advise against renting from them. Avoid at all costs!

Booked car at Lutam Nice in the period October 3rd to Tuesday 8th.
I can only state that it was a very positive experience. They anwered our call from the airport when we couldn't figure out where to go to collect the car (read the information they provide!). Was meet with kind and serviceminded people both at pick-up and drop off, and car was new and clean. Sorry for others who have had a bad experience, it is definitely not what we had.

Lutam Nice airport. Be carefull.
We have rented a car from Lutam sep. 19 2024 in 16 days. We have planed to pickup the car 14:30. But our flight were canceled and we arrived to Nice 22:30. We tried several times between 13:00 and 16:00 to contact Lutam on the phonenumber mentioned on our voucher. But NO CONTACT. Next morning 09:00 we arrived to Lutam Office at Radisson Hotel.
The answer
CANCELED. NO CAR AT ALL.
The rent for 16 days lost.
So therefore BE VERY CAREFULL with Lutam

Disappointing experience, don't book with them

When we arrived, we suddenly had to pay €100 extra that wasn't mentioned in the original price. They said we have to arrange it ourself to maybe get a refund from Carjet. We also had troubles with the payment, as they wouldn't accept our money from different people.

Shocking company.

Shocking company.
Rude bunt staff at the main desk at the Radisson.
Very unhelpful.
Hired a Jeep, paid for a jeep and got a Peugeot. Apparently in the same group. (???)
Car itself was not what we wanted but as a car, was fine.
Flight times changed on our return and we had to drop the car of earlier. Doesn't open till 8.30am and we needed to drop about 8. No 24 hour number to discuss with. When the staff finally acknowledged me at 8.30, despite me trying to explain my situation, I got a shrug of the shoulders and told wait or we charge for damage. Had to wait around for 20 mins while he dealt with other customers and then checked our car. Was told it was fine but needed a hoover inside. Told I could do this or pay 60 euros. Never been told to hoover a car in 25 years of renting motors. It was dusty inside as the south of france is quite dusty. I had no time as I still had to get back to the airport and check in for my flight which was leaving in about 70mins. We had to opt not to hoover as someone else was still suing the hoover machine. Ridiculous. Unhelpful, rude, blunt. Do not use.

Replay from Lutam that they charge if overly dirty. It wasn't. Standard dust on the floor. Rest of the car was spotless. AVOID

However frustrating it may have been, our office only opens at 830am, and closes at 8pm.
Return of the vehicle out of opening hours automatically triggers a 59€ out of business hours fee, and that is why the staff suggested that you wait a bit so you don't have to pay this.
Regarding the cleanliness of the vehicle, we expect the car to be returned in normal usage dirtiness.
If the staff asked that you clean it, it must have been dirtier than acceptable. As a convenience to our customers we may offer them the option to clean the car themselves at our facility to save the cleaning fee.
Please note that this is just a courtesy gesture from our part, as me may just charge the cleaning fee.

Dit zijn oplichters, criminelen.
Als je de auto terugbrengt buiten hun kantooruren wordt een extra 59 euro gerekend. Onze vlucht ging om 9 uur in de ochtend terwijl hun kantoor pas om 8.30 opengaat.
Bij het ophalen van de auto worden er fotos genomen van bestaande schade. Let hierbij op! Van onze huurauto werden er 7 fotos genomen. Meneer maakte een zogenaamd grapje en zei dat hij per ongeluk een foto van de grond maakte en maakte een 8e foto!. De eerste 7 kregen we via de mail toegestuurd. Fotos waren erg onduidelijk.
Toen wij de auto terugbrachten, ook buitenkantooruren, was de auto perfect in orde dus géén extra schade.
Achteraf kregen we nog een rekening van 625 euro. Je raad het al foto 8 zat er nu bij. Deze schade hebben wij echt niet veroorzaakt.

Al recoger el coche, se toman fotografías de los daños existentes. ¡Presta atención a esto! Se tomaron 7 fotografías de nuestro coche de alquiler. El caballero hizo una supuesta broma y dijo que accidentalmente tomó una fotografía del suelo y tomó una octava fotografía. Recibimos los primeros 7 por correo electrónico. Las fotos eran muy confusas.
Cuando devolvimos el coche, incluso fuera del horario de oficina, estaba en perfecto estado, por lo que no hubo daños adicionales.
Después recibimos una factura de 625 euros. Lo has adivinado, la foto 8 ahora estaba incluida. Realmente no causamos este daño.

Si vous restituez la voiture en dehors de leurs heures de bureau, 59 euros supplémentaires vous seront facturés. Notre vol est parti à 9h du matin alors que leur bureau n'ouvre qu'à 8h30.
Lorsque vous récupérez la voiture, des photos sont prises des dommages existants. Faites attention à cela ! 7 photos ont été prises de notre voiture de location. Le monsieur a fait une soi-disant blague et a dit qu'il avait accidentellement pris une photo du sol et qu'il avait pris une 8ème photo !. Nous avons reçu les 7 premiers par email. Les photos étaient très floues.
Lorsque nous avons restitué la voiture, même en dehors des heures de bureau, la voiture était en parfait état, donc aucun dommage supplémentaire.
Ensuite, nous avons reçu une facture de 625 euros. Vous l'aurez deviné, la photo 8 était désormais incluse. Nous n’avons vraiment pas causé ces dégâts.

When you pick up the car, photos are taken of existing damage. Pay attention to this! 7 photos were taken of our rental car. The gentleman made a so-called joke and said he accidentally took a picture of the ground and took an 8th picture!. We received the first 7 by email. Photos were very unclear.
When we returned the car, even outside office hours, the car was in perfect order, so no additional damage.
Afterwards we received a bill for 625 euros. You guessed it, photo 8 was now included. We really didn't cause this damage.

Negative experience and low customer care

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the recent experiences I have had with your car rental service. As a regular client who has been utilizing your services since August last year and rented cars for at least 45 days during the past year, I expected to receive better treatment and recognition for my loyalty.

Unfortunately, with the recent changes in staff, my experiences have been increasingly negative. I had believed that the company valued and rewarded loyal clients, especially through a loyalty program. However, during a recent conversation with the manager, it became evident that there is no such program for individual clients like me, and the focus seems to be on catering to corporate clients only.

The lack of consideration for customer loyalty was further highlighted by the indifferent attitude of the staff towards clients. The way they interacted and communicated with me made it seem like my patronage was not valued or appreciated.

While I understand that there may be different strategies in place for different types of clients, it is disheartening to feel overlooked and underappreciated as a regular individual clien. However, I have decided that I will be looking into other options moving forward as the other companies are doing 10% for rentals over 3 days.

I would like to bring to your attention that a major reason for my decision to explore other car rental providers such as Europecar is due to their robust loyalty program that benefits clients renting across Europe. The recognition and rewards they offer to loyal clients are something that I value and have come to expect from a service provider.

I hope that this feedback will be taken constructively and that you will reconsider your approach to customer loyalty and appreciation. As a loyal client, I believe that my continued patronage should be acknowledged and valued.

overall below average experience

Let me start off with the positive things: The car we got was excellent. It was new and very comfortable. Everything else though was problematic. The location of their office is not in the airport, with the rest of the rental companies. We landed in terminal 2 of Nice airport and we had to take a tram to terminal 1 and then walk quite a bit to reach the Radisson hotel, where they are located. The drop off was also problematic as they charge you 65 eur for a drop off outside their working hours (even though they are located in a hotel which has 24h reception. The lady on the phone, when I tried to figure out how to drop the car off was very rude.

Scam company

The woman behind the reception, I can't call her a lady, is pathetic, not in the mood for work, and tells you right from the entrance that you can go somewhere else, there are so many other agencies! DISAPPOINTING and amazing at the same time that they are people who get paid for doing nothing! Even one star is too much for this company! They cancelled the car rental as and when they want, without notifying you ,without giving you an explanation and you find yourself at 17.30 in Nice airport with no other options because the other agencies close at 6 and you have to accept their prices exorbitant. Avoid this company as much as you can!
