Good when everything goes right – very disappointing when I needed aftercare

I have placed several orders with Magic Madhouse and, to be fair, my other orders were received without any problems. Unfortunately, my experience when something actually went wrong has left me extremely disappointed.

On 12 August I received an order containing four Pokémon products. Two products were in the parcel, but two were missing. When I opened the parcel I also discovered damage/opening to one corner of the box.

I contacted Magic Madhouse immediately. I explained what had happened and supplied photographs as requested.

I was then repeatedly told that I needed to provide a Royal Mail “proof of damage” receipt. I explained that Royal Mail had never given me one and that I only became fully aware of the problem when I opened the parcel and discovered the missing items.

I was then advised to contact Royal Mail myself.

This was particularly frustrating because I had purchased the goods from Magic Madhouse and simply wanted the two missing products I had paid for. I was not claiming to know whether they had been missed during packing, lost through the damaged parcel or what else may have happened. I simply wanted Magic Madhouse to investigate and resolve it.

On 13 August I specifically requested that my complaint be escalated to someone more senior and the complaints department.

I received no acknowledgement of that request.

On 17 August I sent a detailed formal complaint, again asking for escalation and explaining why I disagreed with the position I had been given.

Again, I received no response.

I have now had to pursue the matter through PayPal.

What disappoints me most is that this should have been a straightforward customer-service issue. I wasn't originally looking for a refund, compensation or an argument. I simply wanted the two products I ordered and paid for.

My previous orders show that Magic Madhouse can provide a perfectly good service when everything goes smoothly. Unfortunately, based on my experience, the aftercare when something went wrong has been extremely disappointing.

I hope Magic Madhouse reviews both how this complaint was handled and how customers are able to escalate unresolved problems.

If Magic Madhouse subsequently resolves this matter, I will happily update this review to reflect that.

Long Time user of the site, they ship quickly, offer tracking, have a decent service and often are one of the quickest to restock as they do buy stock from others, they will resell though at slightly higher value which is fair.
