Avoid using these greedy con artists

Avoid using these greedy con artists. They recently bought out the previous company (Storquest…who also were brutal) Within a month they raised my rate by 30%. The following month the added a 2.5 % surcharge for using a credit card on autopay. Since they have taken over the facility has started to fall apart. Elevator closures, garbage and dirt in the loading bay, inconsistent availability of the alternate entrance. I know this entire industry is a racket and out to nickel and dime you but these crooks take the cake.

Once again

Once again. There is an ongoing problem with me making multiple attempts to pay my monthly fee. When I called this morning I was berated and my concern was dismissed as though I were a child. I called 800 553-1331
There was no quality customer service only a lip lashing about how I should call when I can't pay on line. How I can avoid a late fee. This is an issue I called and reported 2 months in a row. Where is the responsibility of the company to address the concern? I asked if he could not see that I made multiple attempts to pay and he said yes but continued to give me a tongue lashing. He was rude, inconsiderate and then said "I will not continue to argue with you, that's it and that's all." I told him I would pay in person thank you and that I was reporting to the BBB. Also the actual site is scarcely manned.

AOVID THESE SCAMMERS AT ALL COSTS

AOVID THESE SCAMMERS AT ALL COSTS! Extra Space Storage became Manhattan Mini-Storage. These crooks increased my rental unit price without my signing a rental agreement. My $16 rate was now hit with two $30 protection plan and almost $100 in bogus additional fees. Do not be fooled by their websites reviews. They PAD their website with bogus reviews. When they did the changeover they closed my access to my old account, which included the app. I got hit with $187.00 in charges. I will be moving my things out of there ASAP. Dishonest, greedy crooks!

Absolute nightmare of a company. I rented an outdoor car storage spot and after one month, they raised my rent from $190 to over $430 per month. For a parking space. Outside. In FLUSHING. If you're wondering why I'd ever work with such a horribly rated company, I wouldn't; they purchased the decent company I had my initial contract with. Learn from my misery -- there are thousands of other companies who don't have one-star reviews from everyone who has the misfortune of crossing paths with them.

hidden fees and misrepresentation!

hidden fees and misrepresentation!
i rented a unit at the promised rate of $73 a month and then was confronted with a 43% price hike at the end of month 2. when i called, i was told that I had signed an agreement on coming in to the facility the first time that meant that i agreed to the increase. clearly, hiding fees in a mound of paperwork is a poor way of doing business.

From great to scum overnight

This company just took over my storage from cubesmart(great company). First month they doubled my chargers with a bogus insurance charge when they already had my home insurance documents on file. The new company somehow “lost” them even though my 2 year billing records shows the obvious price difference. First blatant lie from the store manager. Now I received my first bill with no way to pay the inflated bill(because no time to get new insurance docs!). The online payment wasn’t accepted. 3 + consecutive confirmation codes were “incorrect”. They were not. The dialup service is automated and disconnects every time I tried to pay the bill. I’ll go down personally later, unfortunately. This place is a piece of shit. Run as fast as you can. I’ll be moving my stuff in 30 days.

Horrible, shady company - but nice staff

The staff at the locations are incredible and it’s mind boggling such kind and helpful people can work for such a horrible company. The new company Storage Mart has run the once-loved Manhattan Mini Storage into the ground. They are constantly finding ways to extort even more money out of their customers and providing even less service. My rent has increased TWICE in one year and now I’m paying more like 4 times what they offer a new customer. And now, you can’t even use a credit card as payment without huge surcharges. There’s only a 3-day grace period to make payment or else you get hit with HUGE late fees. On my unit that was $80+ one month and it was only late because they constantly (like every 3 months) lock you out of the payment portal for security reasons making you reset your password but then don’t send the password reset emails for hours. That’s if the system even takes payment. Recently, it wouldn’t process any payments and there was a 30+ min wait to get a CSR to take your payment. If I didn’t feel completely stuck here I would leave. I am closing my second unit now because I just can’t take this anymore.

DO NOT USE THEM!! DECEPTIVE & UNPROFESSIONAL

Website is totally misleading re monthly storage costs. Lots of hidden charges which are not mentioned on the website. Staff agreed that website is deceptive and they were not even apologetic about it.

Kept telling me that they need to swipe my credit card again as they can not see the transaction at their end, when I clearly showed them the text message that I received from my bank confirming the funds have been debited from my account. I had to really push back for the guy (Rob) to back down and not swipte my card again.

I left the full set of 3 keys with Rob and asked for some confirmation that he has the 3 keys but he said 'don't worry - we do this all the time', so I left without any proof that all 3 keys of the new lock are with him. My son whom I had authorised to pick up the luggage, called them a few days later to ask about extra charges to the account and also asked about the keys. The lady who answered simply said they have no keys with them but when he spoke to Rob, he confirmed that the keys are with them.

When my son went to pick up the luggage yesterday, same story..."we don't have the keys and will need to charge $50 to break the lock'. After a lot of back and forth, they managed to find the keys and open the locker. They were supposed to give the lock and keys to my son as I bought it from them at the start of the rental period but they kept it.

This is a terrible company

This is a terrible company. One would think it would be easy to run a place like this - in fact, if you think about it, they really only need 1-2 staff members at a time. It would take a special kind of incompetence to drop the ball at a storage facility, but that’s exactly what they managed to do at this location.

We had an appointment to check in two carloads of stuff here on Sunday, June 1st. My wife got confirmation via email (supported by their website and entire online footprint) that their hours were indeed 8am to 8pm. So imagine our surprise that after arriving at 6pm, there was nobody there. The doors were locked, the office was uninhabited (though the lights were on and the inside door wide open), and loud knocks at the front went unanswered. We looked around for other entrances, waited for anyone to go in or out, but…nothing. After 10-15 minutes, we called the number listed out front and were greeted by an operator that said yes, they are open and yes, someone should be there.

She tried to connect us three or four times (I don’t remember because both my wife and I were calling), but every time she “transferred” us, the phone would ring 5-6 times then disconnect. Eventually, the woman stopped picking the phone up and the automated service that picked up did not work. After punching in one for instructions in english, the system would say “we did not receive your answer. Please try again later.”

So imagine you’re there, with two carloads of stuff, including several instruments that all together are probably worth over a thousand dollars. Two uber XLs full of cargo are also just sitting there, on the sidewalk, with the sun going down, the street smelling like piss, and NYC characters half a block away yelling nonsense at nobody in particular.

Eventually, we see a business card on the inside with a phone number listed, which connects us to corporate. Whatever poor intern they had working sales tried pitifully to be the middle man, telling us that “there was an emergency, and the regional manager would be happy to connect tomorrow. Another option would be to pack it all up and move to another one of our close-by facilities.”

Well, no thanks dude, not only did we just drop $80 bucks in cab fares to get here, we spent half the day packing, loading, and moving hundreds of pounds down 13 flights to get here. Now you want us to pack up again and go to another one of your locations that’s probably unstaffed also? No thanks. The lack of apology, remorse, or anything solutions-oriented was abysmal and I personally think you’d have to try hard to project worse customer service. I realize he was just being the middleman between us and the regional manager, who refused to help, but this was infuriating levels of incompetence.

Meanwhile, the sun’s going down and the scent of urine is getting more and more acute and the weirdo yelling nonsense a half a block away is getting more and more agitated. After over an hour of sitting on the sidewalk, with all our stuff, getting the runaround from a customer service line that doesn’t work, some sales intern relaying messages to a manager who’s probably off drinking johnny walker blue at The Smith, we pack up our stuff and figure out other places to disperse it - mostly back home, some to a dorm in Brooklyn, which was another $80 in cab fares. No talk of compensation for our effort or time, no effort to compromise or problem solve, just a lack of accountability and a powerless rube relaying messages from a manager who clearly didn’t give a shit that he was completely screwing over customers. I think if I hadn’t seen a prominently placed security camera behind the front desk, I might have thrown a brick through the window.

So we moved our stuff again, and 13 hours later at 7:51am, someone on their team had the audacity to call and say “uh…nobody told you that our office hours are different on the weekends, we actually close at six.” Well that’s really helpful (no apology) a day late, at a completely unserious hour, with again no offering of compensation or even an apology. There was no guarantee of a refund on the phone and we have reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Take your business elsewhere, they are ABYSMAL.

Warning Stay Away From MMS

Warning: Think Twice Before Storing Your Belongings Here

Before you consider renting storage space at this facility, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. The staff is consistently unprofessional and lacks basic customer service skills. There’s a disturbing pattern of disorganization, shady side dealings, and blatant disregard for customers’ property and concerns.

Rates and fees are raised every few months with no corresponding improvement in service or maintenance. Elevators are filthy, the floors are rarely cleaned, and the overall environment is neglected for weeks at a time. It’s clear management does not care about providing a safe, clean, or respectful space for customers.

The male workers sexually harass women. The codes never work. They never answer the phone. They never respond to emails. And the corporate office doesn't do anything about it.

If you value your belongings and your peace of mind, avoid this place at all costs.

Tricked

Tricked. I am an actor that uses my midtown storage to work out of online a couple hrs most days, store wardrobe, props etc. Mgt tricked me into believing this was ok and so I rented a unit convenient to theater district. Shortly after moving in the mgr sees me doing some work online and tells me you can only be there to store things for a few minutes per day and that I should leave. Talked to me like I was a criminal or homeless. Why they totally mislead me I do not understand. Beware of their real policies when signing up.

FACILITY AT 28 2ND AVE NY, NEW YORK 10003

Can you believe an employee got RAPED at this facility !!!! Company gave no F***. From Senior director Alain Gingars to regional director Satyam Shah all the to Regional Manager Ylia Saldana. They all tried to cover that event as if it did not happen. At the time entire staff crew was female only, upper management did not inform staff of what happened. The suspect was still on the loose meaning he could came in and RAPED another employee at the facility.

Alain respond to his upper management team was that they will get over it and stuff like that happens on the regular. Satyam did not want any part on event.

Company did no efforts to help cope with employee. As matter fact she was expected to report to work the next few days as if nothing had happened.

With this said company does not care about their employees nether less their customers.

Good luck visiting facility as you might be the next victim.

Easy process

The entire process was simple yet efficient. Stored my belongings at the E. 62nd store (#1985) location. Demitri assisted me at the front counter and allowed me to see the unit first to make sure the sizing was appropriate. Amazing customer service, everyone was friendly!

Dishonest in their pricing

Dishonest in their pricing. Got the unit for $29 a month, but then they doubled the price and added a "value coverage" charge that made it go up to $75. The lease they have you sign says in the small print they can raise it whenever they like, and that you basically can't take them to court if they do. Shady shady shady.

The rent on my unit has nearly doubled…

The rent on my unit has nearly doubled since I moved in a little over a year ago. They keep you on short leases that they hike arbitrarily without notice every few months. Each comes with a lease you never see or sign full of new hidden fees, most recently a late payment charge of 25%. When I called about the price hike, they recommended that I move to another identical unit for no reason, just to get my rent back to the original rate. I was told that over 100 people in the building changed units at the start of this year, a huge waste of time with no benefit to themselves or the owner, to get around predatory price hikes. Their nasty business model is to take advantage of their customers potential inability to move on short notice to avoid massive price hikes. Paying more for a storage unit with a fair and honest lease will ultimately cost you far less.
