Would give zero stars if possible
Would give zero stars if possible. Went through adoption process and spoke on phone a couple of times with a lovely lady, very polite, helpful and informative. Homecheck passed no problems. Emailed them on weekend asking for a phone call on Monday if possible, as I just wanted some more info from someone who knew the dog and had spent time with him. Received a phone call on the Saturday, even though I’d requested a call on Monday! From what I can only describe as a very belligerent and passive aggressive person, who actually did nothing at all to address my questions/ concerns, refused to give me his name, and then decided that he was going to unreserve the dog and make him re available for adoption. I had made no mention at all of not wanting to proceed, and had spent money on having everything ready for him when I brought him home. I was in shock because I couldn’t believe what he had done, just because I had asked a question. Was also told by him that I would have to look elsewhere as I would never be able to adopt from many tears!! This person needs to attend a customer services course asap as his social skills were zero and his attitude completely uncalled for. May have been run off his feet and busy, but absolutely no excuse for that appalling attitude and behaviour.
My daughter & I had the most amazing day…
My daughter & I had the most amazing day volunteering at Many Tears. We met lots of dogs. The young, the old, the playful ones & the gentle timid ones. Some were just excited to play & others just quietly come over for a little sniff. We got to sit with the dogs in their heated & clean kennels & met some of the staff who were all friendly. Going there & seeing how well organised the centre is & watching how loved & cared for all the dogs are is so heartwarming. It’s such a special place, we feel very lucky we experience it & would love to go again. Would highly recommend visiting & volunteering for the day.
I have had 4 rescue dogs from many…
I have had 4 rescue dogs from many tears and they are the best rescue centre I have ever had dogs from. I am so sorry to hear what is happening at the moment but these things happen and I don't think it's right that the lady that started many tears should be penalised for something that's not her fault. Where would we be without people like her saving these lovely animals we really need people like her who really care.
Excellent communication
Excellent communication. Such lovely friendly, helpful volunteers. They really care about the animals in their care. Totally dedicated.
An amazing rescue
My first goal when I retired was to adopt a dog from Many Tears, as their write-ups were fantastic.
It wasn’t an easy task, as I needed a dog that could go solo and I began to wonder if it would happen but at just the right time, two such dogs appeared on the site. Dilemma! The deal-breaker was cat-friendliness and the current incumbent lied through her pearly little teeth, assuring staff that she ADORED cats. Well, we successfully worked on that and I was privileged to adopt the best dog I could possibly have had.
Leading up to the adoption, I found the staff helpful and responsive. They provided all the information in their hands and absolutely correctly, took all my circumstances into account.
Obviously, adopting a rescue dog is a bit of a lottery. The staff only know what they are told when dogs arrive (it’s the same for every rescue - all but one of my animals have been adopted) but I was prepared to take this risk and have been repaid 100 fold.
Despite the busy-ness of the rescue, everyone is kept well informed through Facebook, the website, Sylvia’s diaries etc. There are amazing fund-raising efforts many by volunteers (I’ve enjoyed helping here) as well as staff. Sylvia’s incredible 280 mile walk to secure the long-term future of the rescue left me in absolutely no doubt as to her vision and purpose.
I have recommended Many Tears to numerous people and none of them have been disappointed when they’ve adopted from there. The love, dedication and sheer hard work have made it such an inspirational rescue in Sylvia’s hands. Thank you for all your dedication.
Many Tears saved my Yorkie.
I home check for MT, and I have a rescue Yorkie. I had a call asking if I could help with an emergency foster. I could, and fell in love with MT Shish, now Jessie after her human GGrandma who loved dogs. Jess is an ex puppy farm breeder who was in a terrible state. Half weight, she had never been outside, or on grass. Without MT she would have been dead. But because they saved her and asked me to take her she is having a lovely life. She goes to our country park most days. She also does to the beach in Norfolk. She has a Labrador and Westie brother and a westie sister. MT have been wonderful. They saved her and the lives of other dogs. They help you when needed. Wonderful charity.
The Perfect Rescue
Many Tears were perfect from start to finish when adopting my collie Torak(formerly Zippy). They were thorough and efficient to ensure he was a good fit for me, took care at each stage from application, home review and introduction. His handler Liam was very helpful and followed up after the adoption to check in on him. He was clearly well cared for at the rescue and any support I required afterwards they took great care with and found the appropriate people to advise. My family has adopted 3 ex-breeding dogs from them who are now thriving and this has also been their experience every time, they are truly about ensuring the best life possible for each animal.
Thank you Many Tears
Really care about the dogs, and because of Many Tears so many dogs go on to live wonderful lives in happy homes....our beautiful chocolate labrador is one of these! Adoption process wasn't easy; but adopting a dog is not a 'right', but a privilege. Homing dogs to the correct homes is a difficult process and those who know the dogs are understandably careful to choose the right home to limit the chances of failure. Really helpful, friendly staff when we took our dogs to meet our new girl, and spent time with us introducing the dogs to each other. Thank you Many Tears.
I have followed Sylvia and Many Tears…
I have followed Sylvia and Many Tears for many years, and knew that when the time came we would adopt our next Dog from them. We initially were turned down for some Dogs, which is completely understandable, rescue dogs come at different ages and from different experiences, which have shaped their lives so far. People need to understand the dogs are traumatised and that they might not be the best fit for many homes. The problem is, people want a dog NOW, they are not prepared to WAIT, until the right dog is found. We eventually were matched with our little pup, she has clearly been damaged with her first years being used for breeding, but slowly, VERY slowly, she is learning to be a beloved member of our family. When we went to collect her, the premises were clean, lots of enrichment for the dogs waiting for their forever homes, and all the staff were friendly and approachable. You could just tell that love lived there. I highly recommend.
This rescue centre is fabulous
This rescue centre is fabulous. The staff are so dedicated. So much thought is given to providing a safe, clean and supportive 'home' environment for the dogs. Our vetting process was thorough but needs to be as it helps ensure the dogs move to a permanent home. We were impressed with the entire process.
Our dog is thriving and brings us so much joy.
The animals are treated well and are allocated a key worker who spends time with them and gets to know them well which helps the adoption process. It was clear the volunteers are dedicated.
The facility needs more space to enable more rescues! This is a safe haven for the many ex-breeders dogs, abused, unwanted and other sad situations. We we visited last we donated blankets and dog jackets stitched by my elderly mother. A kind member of staff came to speak to my mum and personally thanked her. This was an emotional moment.
The shop on site is a bonus as is the parking area and access to a local groomer.
Sylvie is an angel and is unrelenting in her drive to rescue animals.
When our dog passes, we will adopt another.
Long may this rescue centre exist.
More interested in social media than finding good homes!
Very disappointing experience with the adoption process at Many Tears.
I fully support rescue centres having strict adoption policies and I have successfully adopted animals before, so I understand the need for thorough checks. However, the way our application was handled felt extremely unprofessional.
We completed the adoption form in great detail and later received an email asking for additional information about our working hours. We responded promptly with a detailed explanation and even attached our work rotas. I explained that we already have a dog who is never left alone. In the very rare circumstances that he might be alone for more than a few hours, we arrange for a dog sitter to come to the house.
I also made it clear that I work from home with the dog in the same room as me, and that our work schedules are flexible so that one of us is always present. In reality, our dogs receive near 24/7 care.
Despite this, the response we received simply stated that we were “not suitable” due to the mention of a dog sitter. None of the other information we provided appeared to be considered. It felt as though the brief reference to a dog sitter was picked out and used as the sole reason to reject the application.
I find it very difficult to understand how rescue dogs are expected to find good homes if the only acceptable adopters are people who never work. Many responsible dog owners work while still providing excellent care.
To make matters worse, the reply email even contained the wrong dog’s name, which suggests the application was not reviewed carefully. Reading other reviews, it seems this may be an ongoing issue.
It would have been far more professional to arrange a short phone call to discuss the application properly rather than dismissing it so quickly. Unfortunately, it feels like there is more time for social media posts than for meaningful communication with potential adopters.
A very disappointing and narrow-minded experience.
They really know their stuff!
Having been turned down for 3 dogs we were finally accepted. I was upset and annoyed at the rejections but now I am thankful and can see why I was turned down. It’s about finding the right fit for both the dog and the family. It’s definitely not just about whether the dog looks lovely. We’ve had our precious ex breeding girl for 16 months and she still surprises me every day. I think Many Tears truly do know their stuff and am so thankful to them for giving us the chance to adopt.
Very caring organisation
Brilliant rescue outstanding care of dogs ,cats and horses . Have adopted 3 older dogs from them over the last 8 years . They are honest in the problems you might face adopting a feral dog , all mine have been damaged ex breeders . I was able each time to talk to the foster mother. Which helps a lot . Would recommend this rescue
Many Tears are amazing.
Yesterday we had a tour of Many Tears rescue. We went behind the scenes and met many lovely dogs that are waiting for their forever homes.
It was amazing, the staff were so friendly and helpful. We were made so welcome.
The resident animals are so well cared for, lovely clean accommodation, beds, toys, coats and blankets. Play and exercise areas.
I can't understand why anyone would give Many Tears a poor review.
Maybe because these people haven't been suitable for a particular adoption, they have taken to being bitter and spiteful online.
Reading the history of these dogs, the Many Tears adoption team need to make sure they get the adoption right first time for the dogs sake and well being.
Well done Many Tears for all your hard work, rescuing, caring, loving and rehoming so many.
Many Tears are amazing.
My experience with Many Tears
In order to adopt from Many Tears, I had to complete a very detailed form, including my work/at home times, experience with previous pets both rescue and from pup, and undergo a very careful home check. This, I felt was a very good thing, as MT are focused on the needs of these puppy-farm ex-breeders who have had the most awful start in life, and finding the best home for each individual dog. As it happens, they didn't recommend I take the cavalier that I was initially focused on, as my current rescue dog is a bit bigger. Instead, I was directed to a cavalier/cocker cross, as she was apparently more comfortable with larger than with smaller dogs. It turned out to be an excellent choice, and over the 4 months I have had my cockerlier, she has settled in happily and is now a completely different dog than the frightened little thing I first brought home. What I found helpful is that MT put me in touch with a very helpful behaviourist that I could call for advice on how to approach gentle acclimatisation to a domestic situation and eventual training. What was also good was that MT insists that one brings the whole family to the charity, and the dog/s that the new MT rescue is going to live with to ensure compatibility.
Along with my sweet new rescue, I was given two little jumpers for her, a soft harness and a big bag of food to start us off. The dog had been spayed a few days previously, and this was checked before we left to ensure all was well. (It was. And still is). We were also furnished with a vet report indicating any conditions that might need attention at some time as well as a general health report.
The only thing that was potentially a bit of a problem was that there was a strict arrival time. As Llanelli is a long way from my home, timing our arrival -especially with an inordinate number of roadworks on the way- was a bit difficult, but as the charity has a lot of dogs to rehome and a lot of work involved in the care of the animals, the strict timing is understandable. Somehow we managed it.
All in all, I can say, there were a lot of hoops to jump over. I came away with a different dog than the one I'd originally had my eye on, and it was the right recommendation. All of this tells me that MT takes steps to ensure that the dog goes to the right home, and that I'd be walking away with the right dog for our circumstances. And it has turned out perfectly for all of us. Five stars.
I have adopted 6 ex-breeding female dogs…
I have adopted 6 ex-breeding female dogs from Many Tears since 2006. Five were yellow labradors and one beagle. Many Tears staff were always very thorough with their vetting of potential new owners for their very special dogs. The rescue is a most wonderful place of sanctuary for dogs who have been badly let down by humans, and is a fabulous start for those dogs as they begin their new lives.
My dealings with staff have always been positive, as have my dealings with foster carers. Five of my dogs were in fostercare. I have never met such a dedicated group of staff, whose sole purpose is to improve the lives of the dogs while staying at Many Tears, and then see them off to their new lives.
I have done homechecks over the years for people wanting to adopt dogs from Many Tears. And my dogs have encouraged friends to adopt from Many Tears too.
I wholeheartedly support Sylvia Van Atta, who owns and runs Many Tears, and thank her from the bottom of my heart for trusting me with Feather, Que, Queen, Snowie, Pernod and Isabella. I hope to share my life with more Many Tears dogs in the future.
I have had numerous dogs from Many…
I have had numerous dogs from Many Tears over the last 20 years. I have also fostered many for this rescue and others. I have always had the best information and support from the centre. I acknowledge they are extremely busy hard focusing on the dogs and their welfare. It’s an incredible team.
We have adopted 5 dogs over the past 16…
We have adopted 5 dogs over the past 16 years and very grateful to Many Tears for giving these dogs a lifeline to find a home as a pet. The rescue have wonderful, caring staff and always willing to help with any questions that you may have. I am full of admiration of Sylvia and the wonderful staff there who are always busy with the day to day running but will take the time with any questions you have. 2 of my dogs I adopted from wonderful foster homes and I still stay in touch with them. The adoption process went smoothly and they do make sure that you are the right home for the dog you apply for and quite right as some of these dogs have had an awful life before coming to rescue. 100% recommend Many Tears
A Truly Amazing Rescue!
I could not recommend Many Tears enough. Such wonderful dedication from Sylvia and all the staff. A magnificent rescue who save thousands upon thousands of dogs lives year in and year out!
Many Tears is the best animal charity
I have adopted from Many Tears six times, and every single experience has been truly wonderful. From start to finish, the process was warm, supportive, and reassuring. The fosterers were incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgeable — they took the time to answer all my questions and helped me understand each dog’s unique personality, needs, and background. It was clear how deeply they cared.
I even enjoyed the home checks, as they allowed me to meet compassionate, like-minded people and have meaningful conversations about dog safety, wellbeing, and responsible ownership. The office staff at Many Tears were also outstanding — friendly, responsive, and genuinely committed to helping both adopters and dogs.
All six adoptions were handled smoothly, efficiently, and with the utmost professionalism. I always felt supported, respected, and confident throughout the process. I have also fostered for Many Tears, and the level of guidance, care, and encouragement they provide is exceptional. They are thorough, dedicated, and genuinely care about both the dogs and the fosterers.
I have the deepest admiration for Many Tears and the incredible people behind it. Rehoming approximately 3,000 dogs every year is an extraordinary achievement, and I cannot imagine the emotional strength it takes to do this work day after day. Many of these dogs arrive after suffering neglect or hardship, and the compassion shown to them is nothing short of inspiring. These people do this work because they genuinely care — and it shows in everything they do. There is no other charity like Many Tears when it comes to rescuing and giving hope to ex-breeding dogs.
