Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 64 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many individuals frequently complained about deeply unhelpful customer service experiences, long waiting times, and a complete lack of accountability or empathy from management teams when problems arose. Visitors also noted excessive price increases, unexpected extra charges on their bills, and completely unresolved issues regarding their hotel bookings or missing items. However, some customers also noted that certain staff members were exceptionally kind, welcoming, and provided prompt assistance during their visits. A few other reviewers genuinely enjoyed wonderfully clean rooms, fantastic accommodations, and pleasant hotel locations while staying at specific properties.

My go-to for hotels

I choose Marriott hotels on every trip, if possible, and have consistently good experiences. If I request a quiet room, I get one. If I ask for feather-free, it's arranged. I'm thanked for my business and treated with courtesy. Love the consistency.

An exceptional stay!

Renaissance Polat Istanbul Hotel. Not a good location; far from the city centre. Experienced harassment from another guest, but the hotel manager was quick to act. Overall, definitely love this place. The room and toilet were clean. The facilities were just what I needed. The ocean view was breathtaking. The atmosphere was calm and very cosy. Friendly staff. Will definitely stay there again if I visit Istanbul in the future, and I highly recommend others to do the same.

BEWARE of FEES

I always stayed at a Marriott property and was a Platinum level while working. Semi-retired, I stay at Marriott using the points I accumulated over the yrs.
I cannot help but give the POMPANO BEACH RESORT & SPA a ONE (1) STAR review.
Booked hotel using Marriott points (52,000). I later received a surprise credit card for $219. Hotel mgr. said the $219 was hotel "fees" in addition to the 52K points. Hotel claims the fees are posted on their website.
BEWARE - I never saw or was told of such fees. Expensive stay as I arrived at 9:00 pm and left at 7;30 am so never used any hotel amenities.
Hotel did nothing/Marriott gave me 5K points.

Guests left feeling unsafe

Marriott Pearl Sousse, Tunisia. Oct 23
Drink spiked by bar staff perhaps hoping for some action. Spa who felt it was acceptable to massage women’s breasts as part of a treatment. Management response patronising. Not taken seriously.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!

There is a reason why they have ONE star pay close attention! I had a terrible experience with staff and The Westin Dallas Southlake. To top it off when I reached out to Michelle Thomas at their corporate office she was horrible! How she holds this position is a shame! I would not use a marriott if I were you

One of the worst automated phone…

One of the worst automated phone systems I've ever experienced -- pitching you a credit card prior to getting your problem resolved. Updating an old, expired credit card on a prepaid reservation takes almost 20 minutes -- insane.

Springhill Suites Oceanfront Myrtle Beach, Beware!

Springhill Suites Myrtle Beach Oceanfront 3rd week Sept 2023; Newer hotel that has potential, but many flaws. First, did you know that you can only leave a review for your Marriott hotel on their website if Marriott invites you to leave a review? If you complain at the hotel about any issues, it is unlikely you will get invited to leave a review. Even as a newer hotel, this hotel website only gets a 4.2. Some lesser reviews must have squeaked through!
The bathrooms have only one hook for a bath towel. There were no towel racks. The vanity had 2 holes for a rack, but no rack. Spoke to the front desk and they had no idea. They put in the small 12 inch rack for the hand towel. The room intake ventilation vent at the ceiling had a constant whistle sound. Very annoying, especially when trying to sleep. They have no fix. There is no place to put your clothing. They have a cabinet with 10 hangers and no shelving. We had to live out of our luggage for 5 days. There is a luggage rack near the balcony door, but at night, you need your phone flashlight to see in your luggage or the cabinet with the hangers. There is no light to see anything on that side of the room. So poorly designed. It felt like I was camping out. The TV in the room kept disconnecting from their system, so multiple times the maintenance man had to come to the room to reset it. The lock on the sliding balcony door was broke. The plug outlet next to the bed was broke. The light next to the bed was not functioning. The bathroom door is the barn type door that you have to slide closed. If anybody else is sleeping when you go, they won't be after you move the door. If that doesn't wake them up, flushing the toilet certainly will. It's a jet type flush and sounds like a jet plane taking off when you flush. They'll only clean your room if you request it. They persist in not cleaning the rooms to save money and still blame it on Covid, Really??? Parking is across the street in a garage. If it's raining out, you do get wet having to cross the street. BTW, they charge $20/night for that!!
The location is great, breakfast is good. Watched the breakfast attendant funnel in the Fruit Loops to their dispenser with her bare hands. Wonder if she does the same when putting the breads and bagels on the tray in the back room before putting them out??!! The pool area is nice.
Like I said, potential is there. However, with all these issues, it is not worth staying at this property, especially with the prices they charge for the room and parking. There are so many other places to stay in that area.

Worst stay I've ever had at Moxy Glasgow SEC

Stayed in Moxy Glasgow SEC, managed by Marriott Bonvoy for 8 nights in September.

Despite some reviews about this being a decent hotel, this was unfortunately one of the worst hotels that I have ever stayed in. Given that this was meant to be a hotel under Marriott Bonvoy, I was honestly surprised to encounter staff members who had absolutely no proper training in hospitality.

My check in on the first night went smoothly, the lady who checked us in was nice, we asked if we could have a room on a higher floor and was offered a nice double room on the 7th floor. However, we immediately realised that the TV was broken, and as the maintenance team had already finished for the day, we were switched to another room.

But, we didn't sleep on that first night, as we discovered over the course of the night, that the AC was faulty, and the window was locked by a key which we did not have access to (which was fine as we understand that there are security measures in place). We went down the next morning to ask the reception if they could send someone to fix the AC as it wasn't cooling down the room despite our attempts to set it at 18 degrees (we only wanted the room at a cool 20-21 degrees but was unable get the room to go under 24 degrees). Came back on the same night, and was disappointed to find the room at 26 degrees, and with a window that doesn't open, the room honestly got quite hot and stuffy. Upon asking reception again if this issue had been attended to, we were told that the maintenance team was told to 'fix a noisy AC'. This task was obviously marked as completed as the AC wasn't loud in the first place. They apologised for their mistake, but was told that the hotel was overbooked so it was 'too bad' that we had to stay in that room, and that as they were a 3 star hotel in Scotland, faulty ACs should be expected. A lady with curly blonde hair came up to check on the locked window and claimed that she would go and get the key for it, but just never came back. They also said that they had nothing to do with the maintenance team so it was not their problem that the AC wasn't fixed properly. Needless to say, our second night was just as uncomfortable.

We were moved into another room on the 3rd night with proper AC and a functioning window, but on the morning after, our keys did not give access to our room. Apparently whoever switched our rooms marked us as checking out on that day when we had another 4 nights booked and paid for.

On the 5th day upon returning to the hotel at 4pm. We discovered that the housekeeping staff had carelessly thrown our pajamas that we placed on the bed, onto the floor. There were streaks of hair and dust on it, long story short, not something that we would want to be putting on at night. We went down to ask the receptionist if there is something that can be done to get our clothes cleaned, she said she would find out but as she was not the manager, she would let us know in 2 hours if we could swing by again. We went back in two hours, and was told to speak to a girl with long orange/ginger hair. This girl, who was actually standing next to the lady that we spoke to earlier that night, was apparently the crew manager but chose not to step in earlier. She then rudely told us that the housekeeping staff also had nothing to do with them, so there was nothing that they could do about it. When we recounted all the unfortunate events that we've already been through 5 nights into our stay, they emphasized, that both the maintenance team and housekeeping team are not part of their team, so our experience had nothing to do with them. In addition, as we didn't record the visit by video(because everyone puts a camera in their room when they leave the hotel right!?), we were told by this ginger 'crew manager' that there was no point in speaking to the house keeping staff in the morning as we had no evidence that they threw our clothes onto the floor.

I guess what we should learn from this experience is - expect Marriott's 3 Star hotels to have faulty ACs, and to keep a camera recording at all hours in a hotel room? Oh, and expect to get no help from moody receptionists.

Marriott San Ramon

Marriott San Ramon
Very disappointing. Considering it was 399 dollars plus taxes for the first night we expected a lot more. Checked in(no one to help with luggage but they finally found someone) and left for a function immediately without going to the room. Arrived back around 1am and asked if we could have king room instead of doubles. Very kindly changed the room. Gentleman who came to move luggage said he didn’t have keys and didn’t know which room we were moving to. He did have keys with room number written on. Bottom sheet was so creased as it was not ironed and not even fitted on the bed properly. Left this morning and just came back at 11pm. Room not serviced, no bed made no towels nothing. Spoke to reception and they said they don’t service the rooms everyday!! When I checked in online I requested option for daily service. At the price they charge that is ridiculous. Their excuse is covid! All covid restrictions were lifted 2 years ago. There must be much better and cheaper hotels in the area. If you are expecting 4star hotel with 4star service then forget it. After showing them photos and saying we would contact our credit card company they finally agreed to a reduction. Would have preferred to have the service, otherwise we would have booked a motel instead.

Absolutely appalling service.

Absolutely appalling service.
For what they charge for the room one would expect at least a friendly face and some care at reception or anywhere in the hotel really.
There were cues at reception and only one employee, the rest stayed in the office, couldn't be bothered. They check in and out, are not available for questions, have no clue and just don't care for guests.
How utterly disappointing.

They will over-charge

They will over-charge, CHECK YOUR INVOICE!
Absolutely disappointed with Marriott. After staying for a business event, for which we were platinum sponsors, I was overcharged an extra day and then overcharged unnecessarily for an early checkout.
I admit I should have checked the invoice closer, but that doesn't excuse Marriott for scamming me. I have been in touch with their service FOR MONTHS. I am still fighting this.

Marriott has Declined Greatly

Marriott has completely changed for the worse. They no longer value long time Loyal customers. I have been a loyal member since 1993. I am owed a room certificate and have been fighting for what is due me for over 5 months and all I get is false promises I am disgusted at the drastic decline in level of customer service. Promises made and Promises not Kept. Marriott....please get back to the old company that the Marriott Family provided. Customer Service is no longer important at this once great Hotel Chain!!!!

Terrible service!!!

Company booked & paid for 2 nights, arrived to be told it hadn't been paid for. I said company will phone in the morning and sort, wasn't good enough & made me pay £244 for the one night.
Gave me my room key, 'lift is round the corner' could be more helpful and tell me what floor I'm on!
Went to the restaurant for dinner, confirmed room number. Sat for 40 minutes, empty plate still in front of me. No one came over to even ask if everything was OK, I had to get up to ask for a drink.
Called my room to ask for payment for dinner, I said I'm here for 3 days so charge it to the room. She said there's no credit, you can come down to sort now. I said no, I'm busy. Then 8.45pm someone is knocking on my door holding a card machine saying I needed to pay now!
Service is absolutely shocking, there has been no apology for the royal cock up & when I said does this mess mean I'll get free room service tonight the receptionist laughed & said 'doubt it'

Had this hotel booked for 2 years, now no longer marriott

Had this hotel booked for 2 years, multiple times (Covid bs) and booked as titanium so was expecting free breakfast, upgraded room, they usually give me $30-40 bucks worth of free coupons for drinks or food etc. 7 days before leaving they send me an email saying "your hotel will no longer be a marriott as of Aug 1. Your points won't be honored, you will not get an upgrade, no free breakfast, no points, no elite night credits, no 75% more points on your stay and what you pay for, no ability to spend points, no credit WHATSOEVER for using your marriott card. Really. I had reserved, for the third time in 2 years in april 2023 and they sent me an email days before we left explaining this. No notice. They said we will rebook you at a marriott. THERE IS NO MARRIOTT or anything else on scrub island. This was my once in a lifetime luxury vacation, earned with many night grinding it out on the road as TITANIUM MARRIOTT, just to get told days before you leave, oh, you'll pay out of pocket and have to spend 7 k on your vacation instead of getting it for points with all of your titanium benefits. F$%^ marriott. Back to Hilton. Over half a million points gone. No bonuses, marriott not only doesn't care about customers, they don't care about 40 year customers who are status for life, and their highest status. I paid over 2k for plane tickets alone, breakfast at this place will be $60 usd per person (should have been covered) and marriott offered 25k points to compensate for a 10k vacation. F%&$ marriott.

They do not care about leaving you with no place to sleep!

I would give them negative reviews if I could. Their website advertised rooms with two double beds but the property upon arrival said they don’t stand by their own website. The staff stated they could give us a room with a sofabed instead and sent my family of 4 TWICE to rooms, neither of which had a sofabed. They did not care and left us without enough space to sleep. No refunds or partial credit and their corporate office will do nothing to make this right.

no consideration for Bonvoy members

Booked a room, prepaid trip. Canceled airport hotel booking at last minute (36 hours ahead) due to canceled business trip. I am a long time Marriott Gold Elite customer. Was ready to rebook same hotel for when my trip was rescheduled. Yes, I know that prepay is not refundable, blah/blah/blah. I booked quickly without paying attention, apparently. I have given them untold thousands of dollars over decades, and the fact that they are holding me accountable for $600 is outrageous. I will never make another purchase on my daily-use Chase Bonvoy, and will never set foot in another of their hotels. Oh, and they were rude about it, too.

Incredible bad service

Incredible bad service, received no help when we complained about the room being extremely hot and our children was sweating and unable to sleep. We were not offered another room or a refund., and was told to open the windows even though they were open before. We had to leave the hotel and book ourselves into another hotel in the middle of the night.
The hotel's website states that there is air conditioning, but there was none in the room, and the person at the front desk said they hadn't turned it on yet first and later changed his statement saying that they had guest that dont tolerate the cold ventilation. We were there in June when it was incredibly hot.
We tried getting a hold on the manegement of the hotel, but the receptionist of the hotel would not put us with the management.

Is Marriott that desperate

As a lifetime Titanium member, a downgrade from the highest possible Platinum status I enjoyed, I just called first the Courtyard at the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, FL and then the Bonvoy Elite number to get a rate for this hotel for a three week stay. The rack rate without any discount was just over $ 190.00/night. I asked for the Mayo patient rate, which Mayo schedulers and Marriott personnel on both calls acknowledged existed. The problem is that the patient rate was HIGHER - different rooms at different rates – by at least $ 20.00/day for the cheapest option than the rack rate. Is Marriott so desperate for money that the need to prey on the most vulnerable, those that need the services of this hospital, to make its bottom line for a hotel that is old and, frankly, dilapidated?

Marriott was once rated the best hotel chain globally. Those days are long gone, and I see more and more Bonvoy members online comment on that. However, this practice takes the corporation from mediocre to outright unethical and disgusting. I am appalled at myself for having been loyal to Marriott for so many years.
