Great doctors, terrible admin
Great doctors, terrible processes. It takes months to receive blood test results. A doctor wanted to make a referral for me and it’s been three months with no one getting in touch with me about it. If your issue can be solved by taking to someone competent once, this is a great place; but it’s a waste of time and huge opportunity cost if you require tests/follow-ups. I regret going here.
Billing
I saw a physician on December 4, 2023. They told me to go to the lab there at Mayo and have some lab work drawn. because it was not pre-authorized my insurance is not paying for $1116 of it if it would’ve been pre-authorized they would’ve paid at 100%. Mayo is saying it’s not their responsibility to pre-authorize it. I have now been sent to collections because I do not feel it is my responsibility to pay because Mayo made a mistake.
I had my adrenal glands removed here.
I had my adrenal glands removed here.
The doctor said she didn't have time to show my how to use an emergency injection.
It's life saving medicine!
Then not even a year later I started producing cortisol.
Had numerous testing done by my local doctor and back at mayo.
They found remnant tissue in my adrenal bed.
But according to my doctor at mayo I should be happy and the surgeon refused to admit he messed up.
My test results were all over the place.
Just like before surgery.
Stay far away from mayo clinic!
I am a registered patient with Mayo
I am a registered patient with Mayo. It is a long painful process to get an appointment if you are lucky to get one. My Medicare starts in a month. The people at the gate ( clerks making the appointments are trained not to let anyone without money to book an appointment. FIrst they ask if you have insurance ( if you don't you are out of luck ) I was asked to give $5000 deposit because I do not have an active insurance and I was wiling to give but Diane in the the appoinemtn scheduling today June 4 said it does not matter if I will deposit $5000 I will still not be able to make appointment. That tells you that this hospital is "FOR PROFIT " and they should be removed the NON PROFIT status !!! What a shame. I have made several attempts to make appointment and each time the gatekeepers are trained not to accept.
I phoned for an appt on May 13th
I phoned for an appt on May 13th, 11 working days and have not had a response. I have been a steady mayo patient for 6 plus years and can not believe what has happened to this company. I phoned in to the appt desk, pused option 2 for existing patients and got Mayo Tijuana clinic (Spanish answering service). What a poor excuse for a campany.

Refuse to bill preventative care correctly to insurance
Every year its the same thing. I schedule my preventative care visit with my doctor, which always includes a blood workup to check lipids, metabolic panel and/or blood sugar. Every year billing refuses to submit with the correct code for preventative care. They always give some reason for a sinlge word they found in the doctors notes that means its not a preventative visit. Doesnt matter how careful my doctor is about what he puts in his notes. The billing department always finds that single word. Not even a sentence or paragraph. Just a single word. Every year it's a different word. They get their money so whats the problem with submitting an appointment that is scheduled as "preventative" and the blood work ordered at the same time to be submitted to insurance as such regardless of the dictors notes. It's always the same appointment and blood work ordered every year approximately the same month. Its not hard to figure out its preventative.
Don't waist your time as an International patient
Our family doctors and specialists told us to go to the Mayo Hospital to get a diagnosis. We applied in December for an international appointment; we are in Canada. After a four-month wait, they denied our appointment because the condition was Chronic. Is that not what a hospital is for—to help patients, even chronic ones? I would never ever wish this experience on anyone.
Interstitial Lung Disease or Not
I have struggled for 2 years with a failing lung disease with no good answers to why other than a vaccine booster injury from Covid. I flew to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida and got the answers I was looking for. I didn’t get all of the positive results I was hoping for but I got answers. I highly recommend this hospital for all your needs that can’t seem to be answered.
I am from Denver Colorado
I am from Denver Colorado. I traveled over 850 miles to visit this so-called world-class provider. I contacted them in early February 2024 to set up an appointment with a Neuro-Surgeon (Dr. Ali Turkmani). The first call I had with them we spent 15-20 minutes talking about intake and insurance. I was placed on hold for about 15 minutes to verify my insurance was accepted. The gal I spoke with confirmed it was. I was then directed to open a patient portal to provide and upload my medical records (there were an excessive amount- particularly MRI scans). I overnighted the MRI discs and uploaded all of the other medical records needed. I was constantly having to check in to make sure they received them and that they were being reviewed to see if they could 'offer' (their term) me, an appointment. They called me after a little more than 2 weeks, on 3/19/24) saying they had set my appointment with Dr. Turmani for 4/2. As soon as they notified me, I booked my plane tickets. Then they called me 1 day later saying the had made a mistake and that the appointment would have to be changed to 4/3. I told them my plane tickets were already purchased (non-refundable), they would not be flexible and keep the original appointment. and they told me I would not be meeting with Dr. Trukmani, but a nurse instead. I had to change my ticket. I arrived in Phoenix 4/2. My appointment was reset on 4/3 at 7:45AM. I arrived at least 30 minutes early and checked in. I sat in the waiting room for at least 40 minutes, then someone called my name and said I would have to go to the business office. I did, a gentleman took me into his office and said, I would have to give them a deposit of $5,000 right there, and that my insurance was not accepted. EXCUSE ME?!! $5,000 to see a nurse? Why are you just telling me this now? I asked why no one said anything when I checked in, instead of making me wait another 40-45 minutes to be told to go to the business office. ? I was then sent to the Patient Experience Office (which ought to tell you something - that they would even need such a place)! The gal (Casi), while nice, was incredibly unhelpful. She said they tried to call and left me vm's (on 4/1 and 4/2) which they said, I didn't return. Funny thing is, when I showed my incoming phone call log to her, she could not explain why nothing was showing. I asked that she provide me with written documentation that these calls were made. She flat out refused, saying "this is private documentation of the hospital!" Okay, yeah right. Another funny thing, I have email documentation dated 4/2 giving me an UPDATED "good-faith" quote, that does not say anything about my insurance not being accepted and it was NO WHERE NEAR THAT $5,000 deposit they demanded!!!! I traveled a total of over 1,700 miles, spent two days off of work, and incurred significant expenses. Now they are going to face a legal problem. These people need to be sued civilly and charged criminally for fraud and attempted extortion. Them being world-class, hardly! I pity you if you are traveling to seek treatment from these miscreants. FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO, THIS PLACE IS EPOCHLY HORRIBLE!!!!
Update: It has been verified by my carrier Aetna, and the plan I have, the Mayo Clinic is 100% (all locations) in-network! Also, I have verified call logs from my cell phone carrier, that NO phone calls were made to my number on 4/1 and 4/2! They did not call me as they had asserted.

Worst blood lab ever
For an organization that says it is proud of the quality of its care, and which charges accordingly, they have absolutely the worst blood lab I've ever seen. As bad as it was 2 months ago, it is even worse now. Whoever manages this debacle should be fired. Now.
We were told yesterday the wait would be an hour from the appointment time and to go to the next appointment on our list and come back. We were back in 30 minutes but only then did they put us in the queue. And hour and 15 minutes later we still hadn't been called. We left.
At least 2 of the 3 or 4 phlebotomists were acting very inappropriately, like a night at the comedy club while at least 50 people were waiting. The check-in staff is not the least bit helpful but I suppose they can't be blamed much. They must be sick of it, too.
To make matters worse, the schedulers don't consider the ridiculous wait times so patients' choices are to sit there and miss other appointments or to keep those appointments and blow off the blood work. The problem with that though is that Mayo refuses to let patients have blood work done somewhere else.
To be clear...this is not a walk-in lab. It is by appointment only and by 10 a.m. or earlier the back-up and wait times are horrible. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for this self-created mess.
The management should be kicked to the curb and, until this is fixed, scheduling should be adjusted accordingly. I can't believe whoever leads the scheduling group hasn't done so already. That's probably another manager who should be sent packing.
Last but not least, if you don't have a big nest egg, go someplace else. Unlike most other clinics, they do not accept Insurance providers' standard payments. Another visit or two and we will have to start paying our balance by credit card and then paying outrageous interest on that balance.
Mayo places greed over care
Mayo places greed over care. Has endangered my life.
Needed Gamma Knife for brain tumor. Wouldn't accept me Aetna Medicare PPO insurance. Now I'm on a long waiting list elsewhere.

The Mayo staff were considerate
The Mayo staff were considerate, efficient and the physicians seemed intelligent. However, I just saw their ad on TV which has a sign, “uncurable” which then changes to curable at the end of the ad. It was either written by a third grader or AI. Any health care facility that cannot spell incurable cannot be that great!!
Horrible
Horrible. Students will practice on you. The experienced doctors will not care or often even see you. Incompetence, greed and indifference to you as a patient - that's my opinion based on my multiple experiences there with several departments. Never again.
The Pain Rehabilitation Program is a…
The Pain Rehabilitation Program is a complete JOKE!! If I could give less than a 1 I would. Its so sad that they could careless about patients. The doctors and staff are always 10 - 15 minutes late yet the charge you for 1 hour. The PT takes maybe 30 minutes yet they charge you 1 hour. Cardio takes 30 minutes and they charge 1 hour, morning stretches take 15 minutes yet charge 30 minutes. They charge you for time you are not there, and it doesn't matter that you prove it. The only thing that matters is because the doctor or staff put it in your chart its so. I have been trying since October 2023 to get this straight and have got nowhere, except Thousands of dollars in medical bills for services I did not receive. I've called, emailed had a meeting with business office and gave them copies of proof and they continue to say NOPE. Your bill, pay it. I UNDERSTAND YES I HAVE A BILL. However its the charges for services NOT Render. This has caused a lot of stress for me. I've spent thousands of dollars in hotel rooms took time off work to complete this program only to get slapped in the face with a ridiculous bill. which I'm sure for some works, however I would not recommend this program for many reasons.

Refill/ Contact
The help there, those who greet you, register you are wonderful, could not be more helpful. Trying to reach your doctor by phone or portal is completely impossible. I am in the middle of a crisis concerning a refill and have not heard from the doctor over 2 months. The situation is scary and no contact.
