I enjoy the informative newsletter but don’t appreciate Mayo Clinic giving or selling my e mail address to other parties. This is the only company that I used my nick name to subscribe. Since subscribing I have received quite a few solicitations addressed to Bud. Disappointed.

Underwhelmed

I can only speak to the initial screening process of Mayo, Rochester, MN. Underwhelmed and unprofessional is how I would describe it. I requested an appointment through their website as it states that is the method they prefer. I was to be contacted within three business days. I did receive that initial phone interview and after answering all of their questions, they summed it up for me..... Based on my answers and because of what they could determine from the medical history that they had at the time, they didn't see anything unique in my case and I would most likely be denied an appointment to receive care from them. They are very busy right now and because 1) I'm not currently taking opioids for pain 2) I'm not suing anyone for an injury or making a worker's compensation claim against my employer and 3) my pain was manageable on the day of my phone interview due to an epidural I had received one week prior, I could feel free to forward them all of my medical documents and they would take a look at it and then likely send a denial for care letter to me in the mail. Unless of course, something unique was in my medical file and then they may choose to grant me an appointment. So, unless my head falls off of my neck, I guess they aren't going to waste their time. So, why would I waste mine....
Mayo Clinic, you have lost all respect and I would absolutely never recommend anyone wait for you to tell them their medical issues aren't "unique" enough for your doctors.

Rude

I don't write reviews but I had to write about this hospital.

In the ER I wasn't in a room, I was out of a room with a curtain and no privacy. I was a very big person (lost weight). My Mom was with me she's very beautiful.
The Phlebotomist was referring to me as a 'THING", really hurt me, the nurses working were talking about me like I couldn't hear them. One said, "I can't believe that's her mother, she's so big".

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, HURTFUL, DISRESPECTFUL, and REALLY GOT TO ME.

Since then I haven't stepped foot in that damn hospital. I'll never go back.

Most terrible experience ever

It seems that our quality of service with Mayo has decreased drastically over the years. First, a little over a month ago I went to the Er, with an extremely swollen face and pain. They did A cat scan said they didn't see anything and that I had cellulitis in my face. Sent me home on pain meds said it had to run its course. They swelling went down into my neck. My family then thank God took me to Mercy Er the next day. They did another CT scan found a pocket of infection from a tooth, never had a tooth ache. They in turn sent my to Rochester St Mary's Er after they had called and talked to a Dr. there. I was sent with papers and was told they knew I was on my way. They stuck me in the waiting room for 1 1/2 hrs. The on call oral surgeon finally came in after 3 hours. They did nothing to make me comfortable from the pain. I was extremely nauseated asked for something for that, they never brought in anything. The oral surgeon came in and said she was going to have to cut my upper gum. I thought great relief! She put me through the worst pain I have ever had with nothing to relieve the pain. I cried and screamed in pain. I assume she has never worked on anyone that was still awake. I then laid there in pain for over another 45 min before the first nurse of my visit took care of me. I did tell her thank you for helping me since the 2 Dr's and 3 other nurses did nothing to help. Two days later I get a call from radiology in Austin about my CT scan. Albert lea completely missed the infection in face which was so bad my eyes were swollen shut.

Now fast forward 2 months. I was not aware my Dr was no longer with Mayo at all. Called in my perscription 1 week before I would be out. A antidepressant that you need to tapper off of. There is not one person in Albert lea that could help unless they tried to get me into a general practitioner, not for 2 weeks! Nobody would answer at the Austin BH department, even called directly and I also called switchboard. I spoke with a nurse from A.L BH asked if she could get me in touch with someone in BH in Rochester so I wouldn't need to wait 2 weeks. Maybe a telephone appointment. Nothing.

Don't get me wrong MOST of the nurses I have had here have been great. But why is there nobody in BH between 2 towns with 50,000 people total. During Covid when people are having mental health issues. Knowing what it does to all of a sudden have no meds. Thank you Mayo. I will be completely taking all my medical and behavioral health to another provider not Mayo.

I was denied care and told that I would die

I moved to Minnesota (MN) to go to Mayo for a rare form of blood cancer. Where I'd lived, the doctors didn't know how to help me. During the shutdown in March 2020, Mayo abandoned me and all their patients even though the MN governor said that the chronically and severely ill were to still get care (the other health systems in MN didn't do like Mayo). When Mayo reopened, I was told they wouldn't give me the care they'd promised and I would die as a result. Mayo has a reputation among the locals (laymen, doctors outside of Mayo, and gov't officials alike) as only caring about profit. Because they shutdown totally and "had to" take care of poor people with Covid-19, they lost a lot of profit for 2020. My insurance didn't pay well, so they decided to let me die. When I complained, Mayo retaliated by permanently banning me from their clinic. So I complained to the state and was told by the MN Dept. of Health (MDH) said that Mayo's actions were "morally wrong," but legal under MN law. They can abandon patients, neglect patients even if they hurt or kill them, and ban patients permanently. I was told by MDH that Mayo was known for turning away patients and neglecting them; especially if they had gov't insurance like Medicare. When I talked to the Office of the Commissioner of the MN Dept. of Human Services, they told me Mayo is known for arbitrarily banning patients. No one I've met in the last 11 months in MN likes Mayo and I don't blame them. I moved over 2,000 miles and spent money I didn't have for nothing. Stay away from Mayo unless you want to waste your time and money and risk death from neglect. They're horrible. Their ethics really are in the toilet (as doctors outside the Mayo health system have told me).

I took an elderly woman (86) to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. We drove seven hours to make her appointments. My job and goal was to help her navigate an extremely confusing medical system.

It started out as a NIGHTMARE!

The chaos was truly disturbing. When they took our temperatures, they got a different reading every time. It was off by more than 6 degrees which is completely unacceptable for a medical center. They eventually just shrugged and let us in. Seriously?

Covid 19 has exposed our medical system, and it is BROKEN. Even the Mayo Clinic can't get their facts straight.

We were told we had to get on a shuttle right away to get to the Scottsdale clinic. She wasn't showing up in the system and we had to get there ASAP. So we sped to the shuttle for our 35 minute ride to Scottsdale. There we were told that all of her appointments had been cancelled, with NO NOTICE! Who cares if we just drove seven hours to get here! And then we were told we were in the wrong city and should be in Phoenix, where we had just been told to leave! This was the start of an all day ordeal, which was one mistake after another.

WOW Mayo Clinic... get it together!

Happy Ending: We found a woman who used her break to advocate for us. She was amazing and is the only reason I have any confidence in this place. She wants to be anonymous and I will respect her wish.

If you go to the Mayo Clinic, GET AN ADVOCATE! You will be swept under the rug, and ignored without help.

We were early to every appointment, and were always 100% prepared, and still had a terrible experience.

Medical negligence

Uneducated Unethical Not willing to take responsibility for there actions. PCU Nursing Staff and Doctor James Blasko now in St marys Georgia. Cause slight nerve damage because they do not know how to treat IV Infiltration. When a patients arm blows up three times the normal size. You first remove IV line. You do not attempt to reinsert the same needle three more times into the same swollen arm missing the artery and let me continue to infiltrate for almost two more hours. If they screw up they cover up! Do not trust either of them.
