Should have come here before joining

Should have come here before joining. The other one star reviews are spot on. This site is a big clique of people who act like they’re teenage girls in the mean girl group in high school.

It is highly politicized to the left, of course, and if you have a differing opinion, your comments are deleted, and then you are banned. This is extremely dangerous for people who already are struggling with mental health issues. This site needs to be shut down.

Some people are friendly and some are…

Some people are friendly and some are not so nice. There was a a member who was rude to me in my thread and another person kept messaging me privately and was mean because I didn't respond. Maybe I am in the wrong but it's frustrating having my posts deleted or edited constantly. I saw that another member had their thread deleted without no warning. This forum has just worsened my mental health overall. Its suppose to be a safe space, I dreaded posting a thread after that incident. I am so done with this MH forum.

This forum is silencing reasonable…

This forum is silencing reasonable people and it allows pseudoscience and misinformation to spread.

I learned that this is their actual policy. What is so dangerous.

"We operate strictly as a peer support space, which means members share personal experiences rather than medical or clinical directives. To ensure the safety of all members, our guidelines prohibit presenting statements as definitive "clinical facts." Moderators will often edit such statements to frame them as personal opinions or experiences, as providing unsolicited medical advice in a mental health setting carries significant risks."

If someone says the proper terminology or asks for guidance to proper terminology or health resources it is concidered to be a personal opinion and unsolicted medical advice, while people there are activley spreading pseudoscience and misinformation.

I'd also ask what qualifications does their staff have to determinate it all, if it is just peer support platform?

My own posts were reframed if I stated that scizophrenia is an mental illness and it was reframed as personal opinion. It's not allowed otherwise, because it is a clinical fact.

My friend's medical condition that caused her distress were edited out and it changed the meaning. She did not have proper terminology to understand it. She eventually did got help, but only thanks to her own research.

If you have different ideas you are labelled to be AI, troll or attacking, rude and invalidating. They do not tell you the reasons of edited or deleted content and point you to a set of rules, what don't tell you in detail exactly what rule you broke. They tried to give me a warning and then took it back. If you have no idea what you are doing wrong then you can't do better. Well they tell you, but again it's all vague and say was removed due to rudeness, tone. I get that, but in my case it all was unclear as it just said was edited.

They themselves said my tone wasn't an issue. They give you very vague responces. They don't explain that policy in the rules or at least I didn't found it anywhere on the site.

They edit the posts to be more palatable to them and it changes the original meaning what creates confusion and not getting actual support.

It creates an hostile enviroment and it is no way a safe space. My mental health actually got worse being there. I feel sad. I feel silenced and not being able to access the peer support or express myself in any way.

This site is nothing but a big clique

This site is nothing but a big clique. It is run by several members who mainly post in the bipolar forum. The admins favor them and and constantly change the rules of the site according to what these particular members are posting. My mental health was bad while I was a member.

If another member debates a subject highly sensitive that is a red flag for us, we are not allowed to disagree
The forum is highly politically charged
If your views don't agree with the mods , you are banned
This is a forum for MH. However a lot of members have left , as the forum practices are extremely detrimental to our MH

Give it a try!

Really good forum! The mods are people with mental issues themselves that run this site for many years (by volunteering) with compassion and understanding.

Although this is a forum where its unavoidable to have misunderstandings and different opinions, I would consider this as one of the less toxic and most safe websites on the internet.

While almost all the simple members are welcoming, kind, nice and supportive, many of them, are not interested in doing things as a community, as projects, hobbies or other stuff. Sadly, this doesn't help the forum to reach its amazing potential and have a massive impact. And thats the only reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

Its a well maintained website with a mobile app and lots of different categories including journals/diary, chill zone (to have fun) and debate section.

Merged my account with someone else who I don't know

After having made a single post on the site I suddenly got a very strange email from a mod.

It said that they thought I had another account and they were asking me to confirm it if it were true. They also said they would unite the accounts of it was true.

I didn't reply since it wasn't true and I had never heard of the other account.

According to the email they weren't going to do anything unless I confirmed.

Alas that was not true and they merged the accounts anyway.

I then asked for them to delete my accounts as I wasn't interested in using the site anymore, but they never replied.

Apparently it's basically impossible to delete your account. You can't do it yourself, have to ask a mod, and they never reply.

I find the whole experience very disturbing.

I'm sorry for your experience. Thanks for letting us know about it. We have changed our procedures so it won't happen again.

As a forum, we try to avoid the situation where users have multiple accounts on our forum, and your account inadvertently caught up in this process.

Accounts are usually closed rapidly. We have multiple routes for requesting this. Instructions are on the forum. We also have a contact form on our website. We do our absolute best to provide a good service.

We are a totally volunteer-run forum. We can't expect our volunteers to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so there may be delays if you message individual moderators. That's why we encourage people to use the forum's reporting system, as all of our moderators get to see the posts and can deal with the issues raised.

Once again, Thanks for letting us know about the issue.

I struggle with mental illness

I struggle with mental illness and when I found this forum I was so relieved to find so many others that struggle from day to day just like me.

I struggle with CPTSD , Bipolar1, panic attacks and more.

There are so many people who struggle with the same and we give support when we can and get support when we need it.

It’s a great feeling knowing that I am not alone.

If I haven’t found this forum, I do not know where I would be right now. I honestly believe that my life was saved from the caring support of people here.

lowkey advertising platform for big pharma

The site is too busy being a lowkey advertising platform for all kinds of prescription drugs and whiny teenagers.

Seriously, Who the hell writes about specific dosages of melatonin or other prescription drugs like its some cure all? What if the bed is uncomfortable and that's the cause of the insomnia or a billion other external factors? NOPE that's bannable and "not helpful".

With moderators that come straight from reddit with all the nonsense censorship that comes with. A PILL is not going to solve your problems.

Mental health support, Really?

Hello Some nice people some not so nice people, that's life.
possible site is full of automated messages?

Lots of rules, also conflicting rules.

options that are only available to people that are moderators or well known members.

Company ownership and their by no claimed responsibility for this site,

Company claims no responsibility for use of site.
Does this promote a safe or even trustworthy site?

Site is funded tho says it's not.

At times it appears posts are designed to trigger other peoples mental health conditions.

It tells you not to post personal information,
As it is leaked throughout other websites and internet search services.

They also tell you not to post personal information, it then says that you cannot use the site to promote business,
, can't promote business yet you can gain permission to advertise research requests for people using the site.
So they do promote business. Only the ones they want promoted

The cognitive dissonance
Of mental health suffers supporting people suffering from mental health, that support mental health.

Confused.

so is everyone else.

Read other reviews or not.

It's hilarious that the person who gave "mentalhealthforum.net" a positive review is telling us to ignore the negative reviews. If a person told me to ignore numerous claims that they were a lunatic, I'd wonder if I was about to be abducted and kept in a basement. Yes, this is based on genuine experience.

Don’t let other reviews discourage you

Writing this review in the event anyone struggling happens upon this site, I would hate anyone to be discouraged by the other reviews. While I can’t speak on their experiences I can say that for what it is, a public website where mental health survivors can collectively share experiences and seek support from each other, limited by the safety precautions any site must have, and as unbiased as it can be, it’s one of the best forums there is. It’s a well known forum format, old and young can easily navigate. Understand it’s OPEN so your posts and comments come up in google which is why they tell you when registering to use a fake name you do not use anywhere else. Do not post private information. Forums in general aren’t private so keep that in mind. Their rules page is not nearly as bad as some places, it’s basic common sense, no selling, no harassing, no bullying, all stuff we learned in kinder. Posts do indeed go unanswered, some members frequent only the forums pertaining to their illness or struggle. This is NOT a forum you post and get a professional therapist response, that’s not what it is, don’t expect that. It’s a place you can go and share and hopefully find others who can relate or at the very least let you know you’re not alone. Some members do their best to tell everyone welcome even if they don’t have experience with a specific struggle, better to say hello than let that person go unanswered. Sometimes people in various mental health crisis might not be kind but moderators are quick to edit the post and address the issue. They are there to keep people safe, not to be therapists as they aren’t therapist (most aren’t). It is one of the most welcoming places for mental health, I imagine an excellent example of how peer support can positively influence mental health. You might have a struggle that people aren’t familiar with, if so and you’re open you can always say in your post you don’t mind if others comment. Some don’t want to be rude and speak if they think you are looking for specific advice and they don’t know the answer. Overall this forum I personally think beats out others in that it is more informative and open to alternative therapies, they have an entire pdf and forum dedicated to psychiatric drugs and how to safely come off of them. Some online communities won’t let you speak about medication dangers and that isn’t the case with this site. If you need a place to find others like you it’s a safe place and a welcoming one. I hope anyone discouraged by the other reviews gives it a try. In case you’re wondering no, I do not work there or moderate there I am just a forum member.

Was on this site for years

Was on this site for years, sometimes often, sometimes weeks and weeks between visits. After an ongoing thread that I overlooked some pretty nasty things "said" to me, I respond with a snarky remark and THEN the moderator jumps in. Let's see hate filled misogynistic remarks with the f word and "shut your legs" is ok, but me saying "I am going to do what all the other women do and ignore you" is admonished. Yeah, there is a lot of posters that are having pity parties and many who seem like children in their attitudes, but had to draw the line at a moderator jumping in when he/she did compared to the really nasty stuff that was ignored.

I didn't even post before hurrying to disable my account. I read one post and the replies that landed in my email and it was enough to make me want to exit and exit quickly. The original poster was upset about a change in her life and rightly so. Then there was a reply from was a 'known member' complaining why she/he was so mad - the government sucked and it just wasn't fair that student loans were forgiven!!! I almost typed out 'how much was gas when you were paying off your loans? How much was a house?' but didn't want to add to the problem. I signed on to find support and suggestions for what I was going through but it was just a b*tch fest with no solutions. I've had enough of people who can't see past their own nose in my life, I don't want any more.

Red flags

Though I haven't had a terrible experience, I have felt there are quite a few red flags there especially if you're really struggling with your mental health as many people there seem to be. I work in mental health myself and I wrote quite a detailed post about something that I am really struggling with.

Unfortunately my first post about the issue I'm struggling with was quite long and as I didn't receive any replies like other new posts, tried to edit it to make it more palatable to read but discovered you can't edit after 5 mins. I also then wrote another post on the thread apologising for the length of it but it now means it doesn't show up in the unanswered threads as my own reply is listed as a reply.

I know people can't or don't always want to reply to a post but it can make you feel a bit vulnerable when you've laid your heart out and then also can't edit it and it looks like you've had others reply when you haven't, and all the other new posts are being answered.

I then linked to it in another relevant post but again, no replies. I've also noticed that a few of the established members often reply to someone's first post saying welcome etc which is a nice touch in theory but again does make it look like people are getting replies to their problem but actually are just getting a "welcome to the forum" message.

For e.g. I saw multiple posts that had been up for at least a few days where someone poured their heart really vulnerably only to then get a reply "welcome to the forum" 🙂 from another member but with no indication the person replying had read the post for e.g. saying something like basically the OP was feeling suicidal or really struggling. it's a bit like telling someone IRL that you're having a terrible time and they ignore that and say "the weather's nice today". A "welcome to the forum, sorry you're having a tough time, I don't have any knowledge of your experience but hopefully someone that does will reply soon" would be better than cheery welcomes that don't acknowledge anything the person has mentioned especially when particularly fragile, it can just make you feel even more invisible and unheard.

It was also difficult to work out how to now delete your account. I'm not suicidal or dealing with very severe mental health problems (they're moderate) myself but wouldn't recommend to friends or my own mental health clients as I think the setup doesn't seem very empathetic to the users experience and could be very triggering rather than helpful, as a result.

I have responded to quite a few people there in an effort to balance out some questionable, shaming and badly informed replies about mental health from other members but still haven't received support myself. I looked up reviews as a result of my experiences and found similar thoughts here.

What an earth is going on with this…

What an earth is going on with this forum. It used to be a good site. The staff who manage this site are very rude and nasty who issue infractions for no good reason and delete posts for very stupid things its ridiculous. I seriously wonder who ever is responsible for giving warnings and unfair infractions has mental health issues themselves? its terrible. They make the rules up as they go along.

I was given an infraction for saying I don't like spiders. I'm not kidding either then when I politely messaged the admin staff to ask why I was given an unreasonable infraction they then issued me with a second infraction just for asking a question???

I thought they had made a mistake at first. I was really baffled by the whole thing. I think this forum should be taken down because the staff are really horrible and unprofessional to people. The actual forum members are ok and friendly I've had many good chats on the forum with people but its the staff and admin team who seem to enjoy winding people up and issuing unfair infractions to members its like they get a kick out of it. Its horrible and uncalled for. People come here for support and the last thing they need is what I encountered. It should be shut down until they get better management.

This site makes your mental health worse

If you ever want to seek help, do not go on this site.

If you have light problems, than you will be heard and given advices. But don't you dare explain things that are too "triggering".

I have a really difficult type of OCD and I sought help on this forum, it was like a light in a dark tunnel. I poured my heart, keeping details of course, but it wasn't something unknown or gruesome. I actually got a helpful comment and I felt better.

Today I received an e-mail saying my post was flagged and even if my account exists I can't access it. What a joke.

The member team is AWFUL. It's literally all the bad therapists in the world combined in one site. If you wanna talk about harm OCD, really bad anxiety, false memory OCD, RUN like seriously RUN from this site as fast as you can. Fortunately I am stronger than I thought and I didn't collapse when I read the mail, I was just so freaking angry. How could they do that ? Flag a post saying "it's for you tho". HOW ? The post was way too long, but I swear it wasn't graphic or anything.

They have the audacity to play it cool and to lie and deceive. I sent them a message about how they handled their site, and I did say that I will do everything in my power to kill the site and shut it down basically. Of course, it's not a threat, it's a promise. So if they are reading this, just know that I have a huge smile on my face while writing this to discredit you.

I poured my heart into a site I should NOT have trusted. I am begging you if you read this : do NOT register. They are the worst type of person on this planet, because they OFFER help and then shut the door right in your face.

This site is for the "victim mentality OCD and Anxiety" I mean according to my experience of course. On the site, the make you think you can talk about "schizophrenia" and everything, but the truth is, your post will most likely get flagged if you have the "culprit mentality" which is literally the definition of harm OCD.

Posts like "I feel alone" "I ate today !" will most likely be promoted. You see, post with a "happy twist" or "not too detailed" problems. And don't get me wrong, eating disorders or feeling of loneliness will impact you and deserve to be talked about, but what about the other ? What about people that can't look at themselves in the mirror because the battle they have to fight is with their own brain that makes them think they are a bad person ? What about them ?

And I'm sure that if a post about an eating disorder is too graphic, they will flag it too. Basically their site is "tell me what's wrong, but don't get into details please, it's horrible lol"

Also they give advices like "go see or doctor" no way ?! I never thought about it. Wow. People are actually dumb enough to think that we can see a doctor. Well NO, if we write online it's because we are desperate.

I will never stop saying it : if you struggle and I mean in a really horrible way, if you even think about suicide, I am begging you, do not go on this site. Because you will pour your heart out about your anxiety problems, eating disorder, OCD disorder or whatever, and they will flag you if they see that it is too graphic or too detailed.

However you can go on this site if you want to write things like "I feel alone... Help me" They will say "okay, I won't flag this lol, I will promote it xoxo."

This site is a joke and your worst enemy.

The rudeness of the staff at the Mental Health Forum

I just want to record the rudeness, poor communication and behavioral inconsistencies of the staff at Mental Health Forum.

I joined that forum in order to post some info on supplements which I had found helpful for my generalized anxiety disorder, in the hope these supplements would be useful for others suffering the same condition.

So I posted this info in a new thread. The next day I came back, and found the forum staff had deleted my post, and a moderator from the forum told me I should not have placed web links in my thread to supplement sellers (the moderators could have easily edited out the web links, but they decided to delete my entire thread).

But I wanted to help others with anxiety, so in a private conversation with the moderator, it was agreed I could repost my thread, provided I removed the links to supplement sellers. So I re-wrote my thread, and posted it again.

Then the following day when I went to the Mental Health Forum, I found out that I had been banned. No explanation was given, which I found bad-mannered. And it made no sense, as I had agreed with the moderators beforehand that it was fine to re-post my thread.

So I emailed the forum management, asking why I had been banned, explaining to them that I had been given permission to post my thread. I used two different emails to contact them. But I got no reply. Again, that's pretty rude, and shows poor communication.

I concluded that the staff at the Mental Health Forum seem uncivil and inconsistent, and cannot be held to their word.

It's laughable that they say on their home page: "We aim to be the friendliest forum for support with mental health issues," because I found them to be rather unfriendly.

I also wrote to the organization that runs this forum, the Mental Health Foundation explaining the weird behavior of the staff on the forum, and the fact I had been banned for no reason. But the Mental Health Foundation also did not reply to my letter. So it seems like the whole organization is rude and has poor communication.
