If I could give zero stars I would.

I cannot put into words how dysfunctional, poorly managed and un-customer focused this company is. I ordered their most expensive custom frameset a Pro Lugless44 and was very specific in what I wanted it to do. It finally arrived after a two year wait but couldn’t actually be ridden because they had built the frame incorrectly. I then had to send repeated requests for a refund. When I finally got my refund they refused to compensate me for either my ‘loss and inconvenience’ or for the money I had to pay my LBS to first build and then dismantle the bike in order to return the frameset.

I cannot list the number of times during the whole process I sent emails or made calls requesting updates that were simply not responded to. When I did get replies there was no apology, no contrition just lame excuse after lame excuse.

The frame had to be repainted once because they painted it in the wrong colour way despite being sent a graphic mock-up. I was also expected to pay for a second set of custom transfers when they placed one on upside down.

All in all, having wanted to own a custom Mercian for the last 40 years I am now left regretting that I wasted 2 years of my life waiting for a product and ‘custom build experience’ that was completely lacking.

I would strongly urge anybody looking to buy a custom bike to take their hard earned cash and go to a company that actually cares about their product, their customer base and their professional reputation. There are now so many to choose from.

The only positive element of the experience was Bob who did try his hardest to be empathetic and to sort out some of the issues for me. I would give him four stars as an individual.

I had a Mercian frame it buckled due to the front wheel hitting the down tube under breaking. I took it back complained they said i was lying and had crashed it.

The entire process was a total disaster. I was told it would take 6 - 8 weeks maximum. When in fact it took 14 weeks and then a further 12 days for the bike to be delivered, as it was sent but the cheapest and slowest means possible.
Unfortunately when the bike did arrive there was a obvious smug in the paint work just above the rear break set and the one of the colours used was red not orange. Which is very important when orange is actually the colour of your national flag and the front forks are meant to be sprayed in your nation flags colours.
Not once was I given a straight answer on completion dates. I called them 24 times in total during the entire process and it got to the point where I just dreaded having listen to the "I couldn't care less" attitude of the two gentlemen I spoke to in the office. I was constantly being told it will be next week please call us back then and each time I called back I was given a different excuse.

On a positive note the rebuild was great. Just a shame that for the extremely high price I was charged the overall experience was so poor. If you want to get your bike resprayed I would suggest you go somewhere else. If I was to do it again knowing what know now, I would most certainly have gone somewhere else.

I said to my wife "You need a new bike" so off we went to the Cycle Show at the NEC. The Canyon team and their upcoming Endurace model wowed us, so we placed an order.

Whilst it looked to be a great bike, something wasn't sitting well with me so on our way home I suggested we call into Mercian to see what they could offer...

We booked a 'bike fit' session, and after a couple of hours with Grant, we had designed her new bike with all the features (plus some)of the Endurace. By then we were hooked and placed an order with Mercian, cancelling our order with Canyon. That was September 2016

Fast-forward to this week, when we took a call from Mercian to say that finally her new bike was ready and could they deliver it! (We now live in Herefordshire)

Wow-what a result and well worth the wait

If you are looking for something special, bespoke and unique, then look no further than Mercian. You will not be disappointed. This is not an instant-gratification process, and you will need patience, but the final result will last you a lifetime

My daughter's Mercian is over 30 years old and too small for me but still has the best ride quality, handling and construction of any bike I have ever ridden. An absolute design classic, nothing different in the design to ones 30 years older or the one that someone ordered today.

There's not much to say. Mercian Cycles are perfect. Their products are perfect. Their customer service is perfect. Their shop is perfect.
I have two single cycles and a tandem. They all are a pleasure to ride and a joy to behold.
(Their prices might make you wince!)
