Went to school in brighton (previously…

Went to school in brighton (previously under BIMM/Brighton screen and film school) for theire makeup course, to find out in second year that the specialisms that you can choose are done by class majority vote.
So where I wanted to go into prosthetics and sfx, everyone else wanted wig making. Dropped out of the school as I did not want to specialise in something I was not interested in.

They cancelled a short course

Abstract: They cancelled a short course that I had planned my year around a couple of weeks before the start date.

I had signed up (and paid) for a game-making short course that was supposed to take place in July 2025. I had planned my year around this course, both financially and in terms of time resources. The cancellation came as a hefty blow, and I am still suffering from the fall-out of NOT having the proper skills I need career-wise.

I have noticed that other unis are similar in their laissez-faire approach towards short course ethics. "If it doesn't make us money - SCR*W the students/attendants!". Sadly, what Met and other unis haven't realised is how hard it is for people who have a job to carve out a whole month for a short course in any given year. I was quite disgusted by this treatment, to be honest, never mind the admittedly nice lady "in charge" (but not really in charge, clearly). She and the fact that I wanted this review to come across as well thought-through are the only reasons I am giving this abysmal excuse for an academic institution two stars as opposed to one. May those responsible for this sort of decision-making one day find themselves in an equally sh*t situation that I have found myself due to this. Needless to say, I cannot ever trust them again so wouldn't even dream of trying it again next year. What for - just to be screwed around AGAIN!? No thanks. And I'd advise others to steer clear as well.

P.S. I put the date of when the course was supposed to start as "date of experience".

A JOKE

A JOKE! Teachers present themselves on a student visit day like they just come from the hay stack working in the farm. If a person has respect towards himself, will show some preparation with presenting better in starting with appearance. Talking empty, saying every 10 seconds some big name and later say you have no contact or any other means to be related with, showing the 3 cameras does not work in the real world. But it gets better. We have booked a course 10 days, 1000 pounds. Met film take the money, no communication from April. Silence. Multiple emails unanswered. Today our kid, registered with ID and all, present himself in Manchester to have the course - there is nobody. After many attempts to connect with a person on the phone - finally get one which say the course is cancelled. So how come we haven't been refunded? Why no communication? It starts with the small details. If you present yourself like a peasant from 19 sanctuary, if your facilities are dirty like a pigsty, talk rubbish - what possible can you teach a student? What can you give for the 50 000 you ask for one year of accelerate study? Probably what you give us now. A disappointment. We have reduced our holiday, we have worked our plans for the summer holiday around this course of yours. Wake up - it is 2025!

Find an alternative!

Edit: It’s now September and still no refund from a course that they cancelled in April!

Short course cancelled 2 days prior to start date and we only found out after chasing for final information (multiple times). The same course shows fully booked on their website, so don't trust what's on there. Hugely disappointing as I'm sure they knew minimum numbers had not been met a long time before this and if we'd have known I could have found an alternative. Even more disappointing as although this seems a complete muck up from their side, I am still awaiting my refund. Really poor communication and customer service.

Met Film School

Regarding my offer of £5-10k to encourage FILM origination, rather than the usual Digital zombie practice. Jonny Persey / MetFilm School did not respond to my email, and appear to encourage the over-educated with spread sheets, and chasing after MA's rather than the Craft of FILM.
However they are not alone in the Digital zombie brigade -
Look at: London Film School, NFTS, and others - They are all the same.
My advice to potential Students would be: Forget this lot, save your money, get a runners job, work your way up, and join Observer schemes.

1 year MA Film and Television…

1 year MA Film and Television Production course.
Waist of time and money.
Empty of content lessons, being bullied by teachers and some classmates which were getting along with those teachers.
I left after 3 months, they never gave me my money back.
I had never regretted something this much.
Everyday going to study there was a nightmare, I end up hating my everyday live when I was studying there.
I felt happy and relieved when I left.

AVOID MetFilm School at all cost or it would cost you a lot of money.

Don’t miss out!

I took the two week Film Acting residential course last summer and I enjoyed it and loved it more than any other course I have ever done. The teaching, course criteria and service was outstanding.
I am generally a shy person but I felt welcomed and comforted by the atmosphere as soon as I arrived.
No course anywhere is cheap when it comes to learning about the screen industry, but it’s my passion and though it was hard for me to afford, it was definitely worth it!
I was so happy with it that I have enrolled for the four week filmmaking course for this coming summer...sooooooo excited!!!!
