Mighty Campers - Christchurch Reviews 

Overall, our experience with Mighty Campers was good, especially with the Mighty Deuce 2 motorhome itself. The vehicle was superb throughout our trip and, Alhamdulillah, we had no major issues with the motorhome while on the road. It was comfortable, practical and handled our long self-drive journey very well.

🚐 Pick-up & Check-in

The airport pick-up process was generally convenient and the registration/check-in at Mighty went smoothly.

However, one area that I feel could be improved is the airport transfer consideration. We were staying at Lylo and had requested pick-up/drop-off there. Lylo is very close to the airport, around 2 minutes away, and still within the general route between Mighty and the airport.

Unfortunately, because of the procedure, we were asked to walk with our luggage from Lylo towards the pick-up point. With luggage, this was quite inconvenient, especially after a long journey. I understand that companies have procedures to follow, but perhaps some flexibility could be considered when the requested location is still very close and along the route.

At the counter, we also had to wait around 10–15 minutes, possibly because it was peak hours. However, the overall registration and check-in process itself was fine.

🧑‍🔧 Motorhome Briefing – Area That Needs Improvement

This is probably the main area I feel Mighty should seriously improve.

We were assigned an assistant, Emilia, to explain and demonstrate the motorhome before departure. Unfortunately, the explanation felt too brief and several important things were not properly demonstrated.

For a first-time motorhome user, I believe the briefing should be **step-by-step and point-by-point**, regardless of whether the customer takes the Platinum Pack or not.

One important example was the **built-in heater**.

We were only told about the portable heater, so we assumed that was the main heater we were supposed to use. Unfortunately, the portable heater was already not working when we received the motorhome. We became quite worried, especially because the weather was cold.

Only after contacting the emergency assistance team were we informed that the motorhome itself had a built-in heater. We then found the switch/plug ourselves and managed to operate it.

This could have been avoided if the heater had simply been demonstrated during the initial handover.

### 💧 Grey Water Pipe – This Caused a Major Delay

The more serious issue was the **grey water waste pipe/adapter**

The grey water system was not properly explained or checked during the initial handover. When we inspected it ourselves, we noticed that something was not right.

After we raised the issue, Mighty had to take the motorhome back for repair and reinstall the adapter. This caused us to be delayed for almost two hours.

Thankfully, we checked everything ourselves before heading too far on the road.

But this is exactly why I feel the handover briefing needs to be much more thorough. If we had not checked and discovered the problem ourselves, we could potentially have encountered the issue later while already travelling, which would have been much more difficult and stressful.

Unfortunately, after we reported the grey water adapter issue, Emilia did not come back to us to follow up, apologise, or check whether the issue had been resolved. We had to approach another staff member ourselves to get the problem addressed. The staff who eventually assisted us were much more attentive and helpful in resolving the issue compared to the initial briefing we received from Emilia.

### ❄️ Snow Chains

Another area that could be improved is the **snow chain briefing**.

We were not properly shown how to install the snow chains. We later checked the instructional video provided, but the snow chains we received appeared to be **different from the ones shown in the video**.

We even tried to inspect and open them ourselves because we eventually encountered snow conditions during our trip. However, because we were not confident that the installation method matched the video, we decided not to install them without proper assistance.

For customers travelling into areas where snow is possible, I think Mighty should provide a **clear, vehicle-specific demonstration** of the actual snow chains supplied with the motorhome.

### ❤️ What We Really Appreciated

Despite these issues, I want to emphasise that **the Mighty Deuce 2 itself was superb**.

Once we were on the road, the motorhome performed very well throughout our journey. We drove long distances, travelled through changing weather conditions and even encountered snow, and overall the vehicle itself was reliable and comfortable.

Alhamdulillah, we completed our trip without any major mechanical problems with the motorhome.

Great location with shuttle service to the airport. Staff were super awesome.

Lovely staff. We had a problem and called in mid holiday. All was put right with a smile.

The 3 birth van we were in was fantastic, with everything we could possibly need! It was clean and tidy, the pick up and drop off process was smooth and simple! We had such an amazing time doing just over 1600km’s in 4 days with every second a memorable experience! Would highly recommend to anyone.

Motorhome was leaking during heavy rain. Not a good experience. Upon returning and complained, was told "you should've called the emergency number".

Upon arriving to pick up the camper, there were lots of staff members standing around and it took over 20 minutes before one of them came to check us in.
Our camper was fine, although our friends who we were travelling with had a terrible camper - the tires needed consistent air put in them, their brakes squealed terribly, the drawers kept opening whilst travelling (although they had been locked) and there was no plug provided in the kitchen.

Front counter lady very helpful and the driver who picked us up was fantastic but the rest of the staff need to be more approachable, answer truthfully, customer service was poor. Van needs to be seriously looked at, so many issues internally. Would not hire anything from this company again

The Lady at the counter was fantastic.We had a great experience, unfortunately the people we were travelling with were messed around & the wait time for their van was rather long.

Easy to deal with especially when we had to make last minute changes .

We absolutely loved travelling around New Zealand in this Motorhome...! We loved it sooooo much we are already planning our next adventure. I do want to personally thank the staff at Christchurch that we dealt with, they are all great people more than happy to help and have a chat ❤️ thank you again from the Sutherland family.

Great service, great staff, great vehicle

It was our first experience of hiring campervan and it was a choice too chosing the maui.we had a wonderful trip. There was few thing initially we have not understood but as we started trip and using the van later it become easy for to understand. And staff work very nice polite us to make us comfortable while board and when we drop the van quite great experience. Even we got free drop to airport.

we had a great time. the camper was nearly perfect. we over ordered and got a 6 berth for two of us, but even so we would still get a 4-berth next time. fantastic to drive, with plenty of zip. I thought it would be sluggish going up the alpine passes, nut it was quite the opposite and I had to rein it in. we learnt very quickly that you have to lock all of the drawers before you drive off, and don't leave stuff in the oven or loose any where. loved it so much can't wait to do it again and the staff and service at mighty campers was superb.

Clean, easy to organise and good to deal with

Generally favorable experience. Took a long time on hold to their on the road assistance line to report a dashboard warning light. Staff in Queenstown commended with their very quick changeover a water pump at short notice when we dropped in unannounced with this problem. I believe Mighty should have tighter controls about who they release hirer details to as it seems anybody of the street could claim to be issuing a fine or infringement and Mighty would happily release private contact details of their customers.

Unfortunately, our pick-up experience wasn't the best. After checking in at the counter, we waited close to an hour and a half before being shown to our camper. By that stage, everything felt quite rushed, so we didn't have much time to properly familiarise ourselves with the vehicle before leaving.

We did appreciate being given a complimentary gas bottle refill, which was a nice gesture.

One thing that confused us was the storage situation. We had decided not to hire camp chairs because of both the additional cost and the need to maximise storage space for our snowboards and other gear. However, when we opened the external storage locker, we found six camp chairs already inside, taking up a significant amount of room. We managed to squeeze some of our gear in, but it seemed odd given that when I had enquired about hiring one or two chairs, I was told they would cost $24 per chair. When I called to ask why the camper already had six chairs and whether we could leave them at a branch, I was told they came with the camper regardless. Had our handover not been so rushed, we likely would have noticed this before leaving the depot and been able to remove them.

Aside from these issues, the camper itself was well equipped and had everything else we needed. The additional bedding was also very useful.

The drop-off experience was excellent—fast, efficient, and handled by a friendly staff member who made the process easy. I'd also like to give a shout-out to the shuttle driver who picked us up from the airport on arrival. He was incredibly helpful, kind, and approachable, and made a great first impression.

Very simple to deal with the team when making bookings, always someone to answer the phone to answer all my silly little questions. I booked a 6 berth for a family of 4, even though I chose the >5years option it was still clean, functional and reliable. Perfect in winter having the diesel heater set up. Very easy drop off procedure. Even the small things like having a shelf with donated food/cleaning products that you can contribute to at the end of your trip or benefit from at the beginning makes a huge difference. Would definitely use again

The camper was not ready at pick up time.
The bed above the cab had a dirty cotton bud and tissue in it.
No plug for the sink.
The shower didn't drain after two showers. The sink was very slow draining.
It didn't break down. Good to drive. Not bad on diesel. Good bedding.

The team is very helpful and knowledgeable, they provide free shuttle service to/from the airport.
The pick up and drop off was smooth and easy.
