Camper had an issue

Camper had an issue. Took most of my first day to rectify.
Had to empty all my belongings and shopping out of it and sit in the heat for 2 hours while I waited for a replacement camper.
Told by the manager I would receive a days hire in refund. Then I’m told on my return I couldn’t speak to the manager because everyone was busy.
Email received 3 days later saying I would receive $150 as an apology. Not good enough. I lost that in perishables

Camper was good

Camper was good. The explanation of a few things was a bit light on (e.g. Ad Blue - sourcing and scarcity in outback, how to work out how much was left, impact if run out).

Unfortunately our vehicle wasn’t right for us and we had to travel back to the branch a week into our trip to have things sorted which weren’t explained to us on pickup.

Given a can that wasn’t mechanically sound and didn’t offer to switch out when at the other branch told to keep driving until it didn’t drive no more

So upon collection we were “upgraded” to a Mercedes sprinter a Britz , totally different layout and very cramped, but off we went on our adventure happy to be exploring.
Day two in the NT outback and An engine fault with the ADBlue comes on, this is Saturday and we are advised to get it to the Alice Springs branch and keep driving if it’s not impacting performance. We brave this and a day and half later make it to that branch, they reset the battery and sent us on the way - the fault still there saying it’s a glitch - two days later the fault worsens. It’s says it will go into a 20km/h mode once engine is shut down - so the roadside assist agree best interest is to get to tennant creek. So holiday plans change and we drive through to there. Only to be told that they will tow the van and leave us there so abandon us luggage, dog and ourselves in outback NT in a town known to have extreme crime. The next morning the vehicle still in fault continues to perform at the required speed so we continue on our way taking as direct a route as we can back to Darwin. Holiday and sight seeing altered, ruined and worried we would be left strandard. When I dropped it off to Darwin the branch manager said she would investigate and get back to me - I guess her follow up time is on territory time.
DO NOT DO IT they do not have your duty of care in mind when it comes to these cans it’s get them out as fast as they can.
The Van was not mechanically sound for us to take into the outback yet they gave it to us.

Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologise for both the experience you encountered during your rental and the delay in responding to your concerns. We have contacted you directly, via email, and I appreciate that this follow up should have occurred sooner.
I was disappointed to read of the issues you experienced after the AdBlue fault appeared only two days into your holiday. I understand how frustrating and stressful it would have been to have your travel plans altered, spend valuable holiday time dealing with vehicle concerns, and face the uncertainty of travelling through remote areas while worried about the vehicle's reliability.
While our teams and roadside assistance worked to keep you mobile and provide guidance based on the information available at the time, I recognise that the ongoing fault impacted your enjoyment of the trip and diverted you from the itinerary you had planned. I also understand your concerns regarding the discussions around Tennant Creek and the prospect of being separated from your vehicle and belongings.
I appreciate that receiving an alternative vehicle at pick up also meant a different layout from what you had expected, which further affected your overall experience.
Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention and for speaking with us directly. Guest feedback is important, and I am sorry that your holiday did not meet the standard of experience we strive to provide.
Regards,
The Darwin thl Cew.

Don't bother

The check in process took close to 2hrs, this is far too long. We were unaware the AC and other aspects of the van wouldn't work unless plugged in to mains power.

Only one window opened, which is not conducive to the weather.

We paid for a fan, but were given a heater (we hired a van in the NT). The biggest issue was we were given a dirty baby seat, that stunk of urine. We had to clean it ourselves as we didn't realise the smell was coming from the child seat until the second day of hire and we were 2hrs from Darwin. No-one showed me how to safely secure the child seat and I had to go and ask where the anchor point was.

The side door also didn't work properly unless we slammed it shut. Overall poor experience, for almost $4000 for 2 weeks there were fundamental issues that shouldn't happen.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
I am sorry to hear that aspects of your rental experience did not meet your expectations. In particular, I apologise for the extended check-in process, the issues you experienced with the side door, and most importantly, the condition of the child seat provided. A child seat should always be presented in a clean and serviceable condition, and I understand how disappointing and concerning it would have been to discover the issue after you had commenced your travels.
I also appreciate your comments regarding the fan/heater supplied with your booking. The accessory provided was the fan/heater unit requested and is designed to operate on 240V mains power only. I acknowledge that you were unaware that this appliance, along with the 240V power outlets and air conditioning system, would only operate when connected to mains power. While this information is outlined within our vehicle information and marketing materials, I appreciate that this may not have been clear to you during the booking or handover process, and I understand the frustration this caused.
Thank you also for highlighting the lack of guidance regarding the child seat anchor point. Ensuring guests are provided with the information they need to travel safely is extremely important, and I am sorry that you had to seek this information yourself.
I can see that this matter was discussed and resolved with one of our Guest Service Officers on 5 July, and I am pleased we were able to connect with you directly regarding your concerns. Nevertheless, I would like to apologise again for the inconvenience caused and thank you for bringing these matters to our attention.
Regards,
the Darwin thl Crew
