Back to Mixmasters’ House retreat for another week full of music after the amazing experience of the last year. Great things happened between September 28th and October 3rd. Learned a lot thanks to the advices and feedback on my music from technical coaches like the legend Kevin Saunderson and fully-talented producers Dantiez Saunderson and Hurley Sanders … we had a formative studio session with the no-presentation-needed Barbara Tucker and the amazing soulful vocalist Lisa , also had a crazy 1 to 1 lesson with Barbara herself about songwriting, a challenge I never had before. The super-artist Kyozo gave us a stunning lesson on how to treat vocals from a technical point of view when it’s up to mixing vocals themselves, always a difficult stage to be done properly. Hurley challenged us students to create a remix in 1 hour to learn how to work as fast as possible on a track…been an exciting test! My 2nd round on the Magic Island has been an incredible pearl I’ll always bring with me, full of great music and great people among fellow students, coaches ,Mixmasters’ managers and the staff of Safragell (the beautiful structure that hosted us). Ibiza definitely did it again.

Stay Sharp - Protect your energy
I hesitated for a long time before posting this review — the music industry is small, and I know how quickly word travels. But I also believe that sharing honest experiences like this is how we protect one another.
Long story short: I had my interview, felt really excited, and sent over my payment with full confidence.
Then, months later, I received a message saying the dates I had signed up for were cancelled and asking if I could switch. I had already planned an entire trip around that week — and keep in mind, those were the dates they had suggested.
What followed was six weeks of scattered communication. I’d go days without a reply, then get a breadcrumb like, “Maybe we can cover some flights — but wait…” followed by silence again. Then more vague questions like, “Are you sure you can’t come?” It was confusing, stressful, and draining.
After over a month of back-and-forth with zero clarity — and a lot of insomnia, stress, and frustration — I finally asked for my money back. That’s when they pulled out the “terms and conditions” clause saying they were allowed to do this.
Well, EU laws don’t agree.
Let me make two things very clear:
I do not hold any of the coaches or artists affiliated with this company responsible.
This review is just a summary. It doesn’t fully capture:
• Days of complete silence
• Weeks of unanswered emails
• A promise of a refund, followed by ghosting
• The moment I texted the owner — only to find they had blocked me on WhatsApp
I emailed three different addresses. Still, nothing.
Eventually, I contacted Visa and started the refund process. Two weeks later, I received a cold email from the company saying they’d be taking another 30 days to process the refund. At this point, I had been dealing with this since January, and all I wanted was to move on.
30 days came and went — and still, nothing.
Thankfully, I paid with a credit card. Visa had my back and refunded me — minus interest, and minus a whole lot of peace of mind and beauty sleep.
⚠️ Warning: I looked for bad reviews before signing up and found nothing. I don’t believe that for a second.
In the end, I’m actually grateful the dates didn’t work out.
If you're serious about music: this ain’t it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. While we are sorry for the frustration caused, especially during a difficult transition, we must address several inaccuracies to protect the integrity of our team and community.
1. Communication & Company Status
Your case occurred during an extremely difficult period in our history. In 2024, Mixmasters was defrauded of €168,750, forcing us to downsize and liquidate the previous company. This significantly impacted communication and operations early in 2025. We have since rebuilt with a full-time support team, new investors, and a permanent operations manager.
2. Retreat Date Change
Your retreat was not cancelled. The date was changed due to villa availability. You were notified two months in advance and offered new flights at our cost, which you initially accepted. When we asked for proof of your original booking to confirm the arrangement, you declined and withdrew. If you still wish to provide that proof, we are open to revisiting the matter.
3. Damage Deposit Claim
You stated a €250 security deposit was required. This is factually incorrect. No deposit was requested or charged for your booking. The confusion may have come from your friend Philippe (who attended under his real name, not "Pierre") who paid a refundable deposit charged by a separate venue partner. We stopped all damage deposits over 8 months ago after revising our insurance policy.
4. Refund Clarification
Our Terms & Conditions (Section 4.2) state that fixed-term retreat contracts are non-refundable. UK and EU law support this, provided the alternative service is materially equivalent — which it was. Despite this, we offered a full refund as a goodwill gesture. Unfortunately, due to staff turnover, the processing was delayed. Before we could complete it, you filed a chargeback, which was accepted, and your funds were returned.
5. Personal Boundaries
Danny does not use personal WhatsApp for customer support. After receiving several unsolicited personal messages, including expressions of romantic interest, he blocked the number. This boundary decision had no impact on your refund or support.
6. Influence on Other Reviews
You were referred by Philippe, who attended a retreat and praised it to you directly. He later submitted a negative review using a false name, which we believe was influenced by your experience. This matters because it may give a misleading impression of a trend that is not representative.
7. False Implication About Reviews
You wrote, “I looked for bad reviews before signing up and found nothing. I don’t believe that for a second.” This falsely implies we suppress or hide critical reviews. That is completely untrue and legally serious. Final Word

not what I was expecting for an experience in Ibiza...
I’ll start with the positives. The coaches were fantastic—humble, experienced, and genuinely passionate. The food was excellent, and the unlimited drinks were a nice touch. The villa itself was beautiful. Although I was promised a private room with an ensuite, I ended up sharing a bathroom. Not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning.
Now for the downsides:
The experience felt overcrowded and not what was promised. There were almost 20 participants and only 4 coaches, which made the sessions feel less personal and more like surface-level group workshops. During my initial call (with Adam) I was told to expect 8-10 participants, so this was a major letdown.
If you're hoping for a professional studio setup—this isn’t it, aside from one day spent at Metrica Studio. But with 20 people in the group, no one really got meaningful time there and was very rushed. Most of the production happened on laptops with headphones at tables outside. Despite being in Ibiza, we couldn’t play music at night due to quiet hours starting at 10 PM—because of newborns nearby. That kind of restriction really kills the creative vibe.
A promised gig at Café Del Mar (mentioned during my interview with Adam) never happened, which was a big disappointment. For an experience that cost over $8,000 USD (not including flights), it also felt odd to pay out of pocket for the airport transfer. On top of that, we were hit with a surprise €250 safety deposit just a week before the trip—something never mentioned beforehand. It took months (YES MONTHS) to get the refund back, and there was even an attempt to convince us to use that deposit toward their online accelerated course. Not cool.
Bottom line:
There were definitely great moments and some lovely people, but the overall experience didn’t live up to the expectations—especially at this price point. If you're an advanced producer or looking for something more intimate, structured, or professionally equipped, this probably isn’t the right fit.

However, after Cynthia chose to cancel her booking — which is against our Terms and Conditions — she posted a negative review. Just days later, Philippe submitted this review under a false name. We strongly believe this review is not a reflection of his actual experience, but rather an attempt to support his friend’s narrative.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re genuinely glad you enjoyed the coaches, the food, and the beautiful setting — all core aspects we take great pride in delivering.
That said, for the benefit of future guests, we’d like to clarify a few inaccuracies in your review:
Group Size: The retreat you attended hosted no more than 14 guests — the maximum capacity of the venue. We keep our retreats intentionally small to ensure personal attention, close mentorship, and a strong sense of community.
Studio Setup: Every retreat includes a full production day at Metrica Studios — one of the most advanced recording studios in Europe — where students work alongside vocalists in a professional setting. Creating a fully equipped studio inside a €20M+ villa we don’t own is neither practical nor permitted. Our approach is built around real-world workflows, just like today’s top producers.
Noise Laws: Ibiza strictly enforces quiet hours after 10 PM, regardless of the area. This is an island-wide regulation and not due to newborns, as mentioned in your review. Our retreats are focused on deep work and growth, not late-night parties.
Café del Mar Gigs: We’ve never promised DJ gigs to all participants. A select few are invited to play at Café del Mar throughout the year based on performance, coach feedback, and overall merit. This has never been positioned as a guaranteed opportunity.
Transport & Deposits: Airport transfers are not part of the package and have never been advertised as such. As for the €250 damage deposit — that was a short-term policy introduced by one of our venue partners and discontinued shortly after. It was never applied across all retreats.
Now, we do want to highlight one important point:
You personally recommended Mixmasters to Cynthia, stating that you had a great experience. That referral was made before your review was submitted. So we find it surprising that after encouraging a friend to attend, you would later leave a negative review based on that same experience. It’s important future guests get an accurate and consistent perspective, and this contradiction raises understandable questions.
Our Track Record: We’ve now hosted over 50 successful retreats and proudly hold over 110 verified 5-star reviews. At our most recent retreat, two students were signed on-site by techno legend Kevin Saunderson. Our model works, and the proof is public.
Venue Update: Since your retreat, we’ve moved to a private resort — Safragell Ibiza Suites & Spa. It offers far more space, no neighbours, and allows us to continue creating music into the evening while remaining fully compliant with local laws. It has raised the retreat experience to an entirely new level.

Divine intervention lead me to this…
Divine intervention lead me to this retreat and I was completely out of my depth and comfort zone. However at the end of the week not only had I a produced a track, I had an abundance of wonderful memories and friends for life! I cannot recommend this retreat enough. The coaches were amazing, the setting and food exquisite and this once in a lifetime experience, surrounded by such creative and talented people was the perfect first step into music production. Watching my musical hero Kevin Saunderson and his musically gifted and technically brilliant son Dantiez blow the roof off at Eden was the icing on the cake!

DJ Wrist Fireside Console Chat
While EDM Producers are mostly independent, the “It takes a village” adage comes to mind. As a Writer I’ve actually been in music 30+ years. Have the idea and knowledge base for production, but not the engineering skill to work a DAW; this is where Mix-Masters can be a Knight in blinding armor: have a beginner’s retreat where participants learn the basics of Ableton or other DAW’s hands on, then guided into creating Electronic/House Music for a career boost (it’s like learning cursive without knowing your ABC’s). Networking is awesome, and the overall experience itself is commendable whereas you do want to come back.. I also feel there could be expansion; not just with labels, but publishing, licensing, and even branding.

I like the overall idea and love the style and vibe at the retreats. Retreat supervisors do a fantastic job and chances are high that you are lucky to be in a good fellowship with really awesome and great people from over the world. Location is beautiful. Coaches are really grateful and even for advanced producers you will get your learnings the way you need and want them. Food can be definitely improved, but that’s also taste :) …If mixmasters would act according to everything they mention on their advertisement it would be a 5* review. Like this a good and honest 4* and I still love the crew.

Most amazing week at the mixmaster villa in ibiza. It’s now my third time and as usual the experience was amazing and topped previous experiences. This this time what really got me was the hosts attention to my personal situation, really making sure I was getting everything I could from my third visit. And as usual, I was able to be much more productive than I am on my own, this I accredit to 2 things. The vibe created by the retreat and the instant help from the coaches which is tailored and accurate every time. What’s promised is to finish one track. The last two times I was able to pretty much finish 3 tracks. So it’s become a staple in my calendar - all I have to figure out is getting there from Australia each time.

Stellar All The Way
From Start to Finish, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The Casa was perfect, beautiful and super relaxing physically and creatively. The management Team.. And no, I did not win at a lottery 😂 but I like to pay for shortcuts to reach my goals fast, and since my first retreat last year it was such a huge improvement for my producing skills, I wouldn’t never achieve the same level by myself and trying to figure out how to alone.
These retreats are BRILLIANT! And I love working with great and talented people and growing together, with this view and atmosphere it’s not hard to be creative 😁👌 I am keeping coming back, because I am so productive in this time and environment and with instant feedback of the coaches, it’s great! Will be back for another one for sure xx 💜

What an incredible experience! It is my second time doing the Ibiza retreat with Mixmasters and I am beyond grateful for the experience. You get to work on your music with amazing producers all week long and learn way more than you would in months. Highly recommend for anyone who’s passionate about music and wants to take their production skills to the next level! Also, everyone is always so kind and supportive.
