Delighted with the Onix stove
Delighted with the Onix stove. Independent installer remarked on the good quality. It was perfectly packaged and as a bonus the delivery driver was extremely friendly and helpful. A great experience altogether. I highly recommend Modern Stoves.
Bunch of cowboys
I bought an opal lux multiburner off them in November 2025 and paid a lot of money for it, and in February we noticed the rope around the glass kept coming out. Then we noticed the glass was moving and smoke was entering the room. They say it has a 2 year warranty, so I gave them a call. All they said was it's not covered and that it was part of the maintenance of the fire. The problem I have is that there are 2 brackets at the top and 2 at the bottom which is held by bolts which are welded to the door. If I try to loosen the nuts, and snap the bolts I'm screwed. So as u probably work out, I wouldn't buy a roll of toilet paper of these cowboys. I would advise anybody looking for a log burner to go else where. Cos once they have your money they dont give a toss.
Dreadful Service. Poor quality products.
It's hard to know where to start. They sold us a fire advertised as multi-fuel, but manufacturer states is for dried, seasoned wood only, which led to significant complications they were unwilling to own or help with in any way. It was not a cheap stove, but very poor quality build has led to long term smoke leakage from the front doors, a household fire as a result of flashover (thought to be due to runaway fire, caused by the gaps in the doors). Patches of rust developed within 6 months of installation, and there are pockets of rust inside the walls of the stove, which we cannot access to clean out or treat. Their customer services were argumentative, unhelpful and patronising.
Most recently, the replacement grate we purchased from them (I couldn't find it anywhere else for this stove) was used for four months, and now has at least five separate breaks in it. Again, I tried, with help from Which Legal this time, to resolve the issue with their customer services unsuccessfully. The grate was described on their website as "high quality" and "built for durability", but they refused to replace it, apparently ignorant of the difference between Consumer Law and their own warranty. I will be buying a replacement grate from somewhere that sells grates that last more than four months!
Purchased multi fuel stove
Purchased multi fuel stove. Within a week or so of being fitted rust started to appear all over the external surfaces.
When I phoned they said the external paint and appearance isn’t covered under the warranty although as a gesture of goodwill they’ll send me a can of paint.
Couple of weeks after painting the rust started to come through yet again.
This company have blamed absolutely everything for this except the one thing that’s wrong and that’s the fact their paint and finish quality is not fit for purpose.
They claimed rain down the chimney yet it hadn’t rained here for months and with the extra kit I purchased from them initially no rain should get down the chimney anyway.
Painted it a second time and rust starting to come through yet again.
In summary their paint / finished quality is terrible and think they’re doing you a huge favour giving you a can of paint.
So over £1,000 down and the stove looks like it’s twenty years old. Not helped by the fact the paint they send is a slightly different shade.
Not happy and would NEVER buy anything from this outfit again.
Spend your money elsewhere.
Great service
Excellent stove with outstanding quality. The staff were incredibly helpful and made the entire experience seamless. I would purchase from this company again. Thank you for the support.

Terrible experience
Terrible experience, they sell you a stove, which isn’t fit for purpose, then don’t want to know when it won’t perform. Our stove has cracked 10 months after fitting, apparently it’s been over fired!! A 10 kw stove, with a huge fire box, and 4 logs at a time is too much, seriously?!! Jotul stove in our living room, had it for years, we burn a much higher volume of wood on this, never been a problem, do not touch the cheap nasty rubbish being sold by modern stoves, Neil and Ashley, you are a joke 🤬
Great service.
Had no problems from original contact, purchase of design, burner and fittings right through to completion. Neil was very helpful and has been great in advising on various stages of fitting. Would highly recommend.
Rubbish!!…
My stove installer bought the stove from Modern stoves they told him it would burn coal (anthracite is a high range coal ) we have proof they said it would burn coal as on their advert which has now been removed. When installed we found out from the manufacturer it would only burn wood of different types.4 other installers backed us up as did Hetas .Took the installer to court and won the day ,Modern stoves told him to appeal with their help, he lost again .The bailiffs got a refund for us 2 and a half years of misery over. Wouldn't trust anything this company told you they are dreadful !! Bought a new stove and was fitted well and is what we wanted. The new installer laughed about Modern stoves being so stupid ,Says it all !! All concluded on 24 July 2024
Brilliant fire
Brilliant fire! As described with great delivery. I ordered two items and meant to order only one, someone from the team telephoned me before sending to see if this was correct, so easily sorted. Great customer and lovely fire, works a treat ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wanted to buy a certain woodburner and…
Wanted to buy a certain woodburner and these were the only guys stocking it, however, I was put off by their terrible reviews here. It wasn't until I read the exact same reviews on Google and found Modern Stoves replies that I realised how unreliable the bad comments were.
I needed to buy my stove early as they were about to run out of stock, Modern Stoves were very helpful in keeping this in their warehouse while I was on holiday. As soon as I could receive it they delivered within 2 days. The glass front was broken, they delivered FOC a new one again within 2 days, absolutely no argument.
Personally, I have no hesitation in recommending this company, always 2 sides to every story!
Bought a stove from these guys
Bought a stove from these guys , sadly 2 installers will not sign it off as its poor quality steel , thin and prown to warping, I explained this to Modern stoves and that I'd like to have them collect it as its not fit for purpose and I've recieved a very poor response from them and extremely unhelpful and very condescending
I am currently going through the ebay process
They state that they never had problems with these but there reviews state otherwise!
I hope they do the decent thing!
WARNING AVOID, abominable 'company'; it will net cost money you for no goods
WARNING AVOID: I cannot express how frustrating and poor modernstoves is; our experience is completely consistent with all others giving a 1 star review (i.e. the genuine reviews). In the end at best like me you waste time and money for no product and having paid a builder for planning and purchasing efforts, at worst being stuck with damage.
Damaged stove received (in 4 places significantly), builder told to paint it (unacceptable, impossible and wouldn't solve the different types of damage). After several excuses no exchange was offered, only a return which is counter to consumer rights policy/law. The company never took responsibility for anything and even stated "would like to offer our apologies on behalf of the manufacturer for the issue with the paint finish and inconvenience this has caused you."
They even state to my builder "the paint on the stove is very soft and can be easily marked before it has cured during the first few fires. It can be marked in transit to you or indeed to us from the manufacturer, during unpacking, installation or use during this time. We have the paint used by the manufacturer to spray the stoves, I would like to send you an aerosol can of this, to fix the mark on the stove." Bizarre and not an issue with any company with integrity.
They said I could only return the stove if I repackage and ratchet strapped the item; in the end they sent the straps. An old person couldn't do this.
Left with wrong sized hearth and additional items already purchased. Again, shambolic. Nothing offered in return.
Went to another company and very happy with a perfect stove and excellent customer service and follow up support.
Don't buy a Rhyton 12kw contemporary…
Don't buy a Rhton 12kw contemporary stove . Guard bars have snapped . Modern stoves say we have stacked fuel too high , if that is the case you would only be able to burn tiny tiny logs in that great glass fronted stove. Just take a look at their sales photos of the product misleading information if you go by their rules the thing is stacked to the nines in order to get a full blaze going ! So don't buy this lovely looking fire unless you just want to burn twigs . Modern stoves are aware, blaming us , despite fire tape hanging out on arrival, it's falling to bits
Bought a multi fuel stove
Bought a multi fuel stove , installed and used twice , the fire brick at the back cracked, I’m aware they go after time and use but surly not after 2 days and hardly any use , I emailed in and got told it won’t be covered under warranty and refused to do anymore. I am very unhappy with this I asked them to refer my case to the financial ombudsman and they have chosen to ignor.

Customer satisfaction joke!
Bought a stove from this company as they were only dealer in the uk.. good feedback, all looked positive until damage was discovered! Reported and images sent to them, only to be told I can repair it with paint included! I think not, sharp metal edges obviously damaged before leaving warehouse. Despite what the conditions say about replacing stove at customers advice, it’s all talk!! Then told me none in stock to replace it, so decided to accept the damaged item as we really wanted this stove. Surprise surprise the next day there in stock again! Absolute rip off merchants with no concern of customer wishes or satisfaction. Refund was offered but no good as we wanted UN DAMAGED stove! Which was what we thought we purchased! Very disappointed!!!
Edit just seen another almost exact copy of my experience below with same excuses for damage and refusal to exchange! Obviously a company to avoid if you want an undamaged stove! Buyers beware!

What a refreshing change to still find a company that cares about their customers and not using Covid as an excuse not to
Bought an Omega multi fuel burning stove from this company on Monday this week.
We are now Thursday, it was delivered yesterday without hitch and although the instructions are somewhat vague I am highly delighted that I have purchased from a responsible company that actually still cares after they have your money , what a refreshing change 😄
An email this morning querying certain aspects of the stove and it’s controls has already been answered expertly.
Thank you
