Motability needs to stop treating “you chose an EV” as though it answers legitimate concerns about accessibility, suitability and the real cost of keeping that vehicle on the road.

I currently have an electric vehicle through the Motability Scheme, but I do not have practical access to normal home charging. This means I am heavily reliant on public charging, and the real-world cost is substantial.

My recent charging records show me repeatedly paying around 59p per kWh. In less than a month, the amount of public charging required has already cost a significant sum. Extrapolated across a year, this can amount to well over £1,000 simply to charge the vehicle, with the potential for several thousand pounds over a three-year lease.

Motability’s response appears to boil down to: the choice to have an EV was ours.

That completely misses the point.

There is a major difference between technically being given a “choice” and establishing whether that choice is actually suitable, practical and financially sustainable for a disabled customer who cannot charge at home.

I am not suggesting Motability controls the price charged by public charging companies. I am questioning why a scheme specifically designed to provide mobility to disabled people appears to consider it acceptable that customers without home-charging facilities can face such a significant financial disadvantage, and then simply point to the fact that they chose an EV.

Where was the meaningful assessment of charging accessibility? Where was the consideration of the long-term financial implications of relying almost entirely on public charging? What meaningful support is available when those costs become apparent?

I have actual charging records demonstrating the problem. This isn’t speculation.

For an organisation whose entire purpose revolves around providing accessible mobility, I find the attitude deeply disappointing.

utterly disgusting from mobility scheme how do you sleep at night

customer service at mobility scheme when you're wanting to lease a vehicle is really good but when for example drive smart they believe the data over the disabled customer n telling people you have to have a cheap drive smart n app that requires 24 hours a day tracking through your smartphone surely that goes against laws n SAR data breach n don't get me wrong i would be stuck without my lease vehicle but surely mobility scheme would argue the governments new rules for disabled people rather than sitting back n letting government do what they want n the advanced payment on vehicles is just ridiculously high n gonna get higher n if you ask for a grant nine times out of ten it's refused because you asked for a petrol or diesel vehicle n not an EV n as for this drive smart mobility scheme giving it we are listening to our customers yeah right sure you did do that ya mean it took a court case for you to listen its about time mobility scheme brings down the Advanced Payments n help disabled people like the scheme is designed to do how many court cases will it take for you to listen n all those disabled people that have now been removed because of drive smart inaccuracy again you believed the data over the customer they've now lost their independencey cause of drive smart

Hi Mike,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

We’re sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the Drive Smart device. We truly understand how important our customers vehicles are to them. Please know that Drive Smart has been paused from Thursday 14th May while we review how it can better support our customers.

You can find more information about this on our website:

news.motability.co.uk/scheme-news/update-on-drive-smart/

We completely understand that advance payments have increased over the years and appreciate how concerning this can be. Cost have risen across the Scheme so advance payments have also been affected by this. We work very closely with our manufacturer partners to secure the best possible prices for our customers and pass on as much discount so we can offer value for money.

If you do want to discuss any of this more, please do contact our Live Chat team motability.co.uk/get-support/contact and quote ‘Trustpilot’. They are available between the hours of 8:30am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm Saturdays.

Best wishes,
Lisa.

Changes to the scheme is dreadful

I think Motability need to have major rethink on how they operate and the real needs of disabled people.
When I joined scheme it was excellent, great car choices and prices were well below what you could get through leasing offers, 20,000 miles a year usage, great service and option to purchase the vehicle at end of the lease if you wished to.
Now! O my god what a change! And NOT for the better. How can a scheme (Charity at that) get so bad that at the end of the lease you can get same car, same mileage and lower up front payment with much lower monthly payment than through the scheme designed for disabled needs! It beggars belief!
Latest Update, from July 2026 they have halved the amount of mileage and dramatically increased the excess mileage charge to an extent that in my situation it would now involve an additional payment on end of lease of £7,500!!!
So I pay upfront in region of £4000 for average EV ( of which I’ve had 2) pay total allowance including increases over next 3 years and at end of lease pay another additional £7500.
This was designed as a means of disabled and people with mobility issues a cost effective way for them to keep mobile and independent but now just turned into a Big Business Corporation and NOT a Charity.
All lease companies charge excess mileage at around 7 to 12pence per mile, you are now charging 25pence per mile - ripping off people on the scheme and reducing there mobility due to increased costs.
Disgraceful for an organisation put in place to help mobility you are now restricting it.

Hi Les,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review. I can appreciate your concerns about the changes to costs and mileage.

I’d like to reassure you that there are still many vehicles available on the Scheme with low or no Advance Payment, and you can filter by price using our online Find a Vehicle tool: https://www.motability.co.uk/find-a-vehicle

It may help to understand that tax changes announced in the UK Government’s Autumn Budget last year have increased the cost of delivering the Scheme. Within the car industry, prices have also been rising for some time, which is why we update our prices every three months so we can offer you the best deals from each manufacturer.

The mileage adjustment for new leases from 1 July helps reduce the impact of these rising costs to our customers. As mileage is one of the Scheme’s biggest cost drivers, we’ve set the allowance closer to what most customers already use, while still offering the option to purchase additional mileage if needed.

We understand this may impact people differently, but this approach helps reduce that impact to as many as we can, whilst keeping the Scheme sustainable for the long-term.

You can stay up to date on our dedicated Scheme Changes page here: https://www.motability.co.uk/changes

Thank you,
Molly

Not what it used to be!

Not what it used to be!
I've used Motability for almost 20 years, over that time I've seen the vehicle choice get worse and worse. Far too many SUV and EV vehicles and really limited choice of large estate vehicles.
Also, with the new changes coming in and reducing mileage to 10k per year, it's no longer fit for purpose so I'll have to look elsewhere. Then a ridiculous 25 pence per mile if you do go over, talk about insulting and money grabbing!
Previously the scheme had been very good.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed with our current vehicle selection and haven't found a suitable estate car.

We currently offer over 700 vehicles on the Scheme, along with a range of adaptations to support specific mobility needs, many at no extra cost when ordered with your car. For customers choosing a fully electric vehicle, we also provide either a home charge point with standard installation or access to the BP Pulse public charging network.

You can find more information about electric vehicles here: https://www.motability.co.uk/get-support/electric-cars

I understand your concerns about the upcoming mileage changes. These were introduced in response to UK Government tax changes, which have increased the cost of delivering the Scheme. Without these changes, lease costs would have risen by around £1,100 on average which we recognised was unaffordable for many customers.

As mileage is one of the Scheme's largest cost drivers, we've adjusted the allowance to better reflect typical customer usage, while still offering the option to pay for additional mileage if needed. This way we can reduce the impact of the tax changes to as many customers as we can, whilst keeping the Scheme sustainable for the long term.

You can keep up to date with Scheme changes here: https://www.motability.co.uk/changes

Take care,

Had been a customer for years with no problems. Changed my car to an EV which I believe I was misled with. Had problems constantly with the home charging point, Motability customer service was so unhelpful. Thankfully I had a very understanding installer who helped me out. The issues couldn’t be resolved and the EV team basically told me it was my problem not theirs. They had spent the money on the car and now I had to deal with it. The EV team is so unlike the usual customer service team who are very helpful. The EV team were rude and to an extent nasty. I paid the £250 fee to return the car and have been sanctioned for 12 months but after seeing the new rules I don’t think I’ll bother again

We always aim to guide our customers in the best way possible when they contact us, so it’s disappointing to hear that you felt unsupported on this occasion. As the charge point supplier is the expert when it comes to any faults, we would always advise contacting them directly. We are glad to hear the issues were resolved with the installer for you.

Steer clear!

Well, I think this is the end for Motability. Scheme user for 15+ years and I could not be more appalled at their behaviour. They certainly do not support disabled people or care one iota about the lives they're destroying and the massive amounts of anxiety they're causing. They're a disgrace.
New changes (made without any consultation, despite their pitiful claims that 1000 scheme users were invited to 'focus groups' (889,000 user so even if the full 1000 attended how would that be a fair and balanced opinion of all users anyway?)). Milage allowance for the year slashed from 20,000 to 10,000 overnight and the pence per mile for extra miles changed from 5p to 25p overnight. They claim that 75% of users drive less than 10,000 limit. Great, that's 25% that are now priced out of the scheme. Over 220,000 drivers that are now booted from the scheme. Bye bye.
The they introduce a new tyre limit down from 8 to 6 over the scheme. *Apparently* most users only use 2 tyres over a three year lease. Now bearing in mind the current milage allowance is 60,000 miles over the lease we must all be driving on bald tyres....and who only ever changes 2 tyres when all 4 would wear at relatively the same speed?! Either way they pushed the Evs on us and they need a full set of 4 every 12,000 miles or so(no one told me this when I took my ev on) so even on a 30,000 mile lease limit you'd need at least 8 tyres! Oh and don't forget they only allow you to put premium tyres on so better start saving!
Drive smart..... Don't get me started. **not** a black box but an appalling, not fit for purpose app. This is forced onto anyone who has a driver under 30 on their lease and all new Motability customers(likely rolled out to all customers eventually). Pushed as a way to improve driving skills it's illegal, intrusive, breaches GDPR (and several other laws), is discriminatory, is causing massive amounts of anxiety and is leading to users having their insurance cancelled by Direct Line and incorrectly being booted off the scheme through faulty data because it's not fit for purpose. It tracks users 24/7 even when they're not in the car (despite Motability claiming otherwise), all named drivers are forced to leave Bluetooth on (and phone on) 24/7 - because they want to use YOUR phone and YOUR data to make their app work. If any of the drivers turn their phone or Bluetooth off or don't drive for a few days you get harassed with persistent texts and emails asking why you're not connecting to the car. It gives you a red reading for : starting the car more than 6 times in a day (says 6 journeys but every time you start the engine it's classed as a journey), driving for more than an hour, driving after 11 at night, going just slightly over the speed limit by accident, taking a turn slightly too quickly, braking slightly too hard, if your phone screen happens to become active (can't use it for apple play, navigating, alarms etc and god forbid someone calls or texts you while you're driving, even if you don't answer it's marked as 'distracted driving' but if course you're not allowed to turn the phone off......) You get the idea and it's clearly far, far too sensitive and doesn't understand real world driving. It records routes and journeys incorrectly and some of the alleged journeys it's formulating just could not possibly happen. Two red weeks in a row or 4 in a year = insurance cancelled with immediate effect and car removed.
The kicker? There's no right of appeal even with dash cam footage to prove the data is wrong (why should users have to prove it's wrong anyway when they already know how appallingly flawed it is?) Zero support or understanding, Motability pass the buck to Direct Line who pass the buck to Motability. Oh, and of course once your insurance is cancelled because this app is so appallingly flawed you'll struggle to find insurance for your own car and if you do you likely won't be able to afford it. All because they're using Motability customers as Guinea pigs to test an app that they already know is massively flawed. How much are Direct Line paying Motability for this I wonder?
I do hope that all the customers that have been illegally tracked, had their data handled in a way that breaches GDPR, been discriminated against and/or had their insurance and lease cancelled for no legitimate reason and are left without any form of transport at all are planning to sue. (legal action is pending)
Steer well clear of Motability, they don't give a toss about disabled people, they are 100% about profit. 4billion in reserves and the CEO took home just short of a million last year. The 25% that did more than the new 10,000 miles limit - they were the least profitable customers so they get kicked out.
I won't touch them with a bargepole now, who wants to support a company that treats disabled people so appallingly.

Hi P Susie,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review, I can understand your concerns regarding upcoming changes to the Scheme and I’m sorry to hear this is causing anxiety.

The adjustments to new leases from July 1 2026 have been a necessary response to the tax changes introduced by the UK Government in their Autumn Budget. The Scheme will now cost more to deliver, so the decision was made to reduce mileage and tyre allowances as they are amongst our biggest cost drivers on the Scheme.

Without making these changes, the average cost of a lease would have increased by around £1,100 which we know is unaffordable for many of our customers. Most of our customers drive well within the allowance and on average only require two tyre replacements throughout their lease. Whilst we recognise the impact of this will vary, this approach allows us to cover what most people need, whilst still keeping the Scheme good value and sustainable for the long-term.

We are still committed to providing insurance, servicing and maintenance, and UK breakdown cover as part of our all-inclusive package that we know customers rely on.

I want to reassure you that in the meantime, we’ve paused Drive Smart whilst we review how to improve the app experience. You can find more information regarding this on our website: https://www.motability.co.uk/get-support/during-your-lease/cars-wavs/drive-smart

Thank you,
Molly

What happens when Motability goes woke!

For 30 years I've being relying on Motability for my learning disabled sons transport needs.
Last year was the first time I felt pressurised in to choosing a vehicle that was unlikely to meet needs as all the previous Motability vehicles had done.
This was because the class of vehicle my son's need was now only available as an EV.
When I voiced my concerns, I was advised that I could leave the scheme if I wasn't happy. That was not a choice in my situation.
After 6 months my fears were confirmed. The range was about 40% less than claimed and meant I had to curtail travelling opportunities for my sons.
I live in a rural area and charging points are few and in the wider area there are no rapid chargers. There is the added factor, not taken account of by Motability, that people with behavioural problems do not like sitting about without a clear plan and purpose in mind! Public charging was not an option as it was going to add an unnecessary layer of complication when taking these guys on anything except shorter journeys. An EV vehicle is likely to create behavioural challenges if it requires a charge in transit.
Others must have experienced similar issues because Motability brought diesel vehicles in this class back on to the scheme. I immediately seized the opportunity to ask to end the current lease in order to obtain a diesel model citing the above issues along with other problems not mentioned here.
They agreed fairly promptly to allow me to order another vehicle. However I was charged £250 for "paperwork"!
Motability have been pushing EVs at the expense of meeting genuine needs. They paint an unduly positive picture of EVs.
The reality is that where I live, there is no low rate EV tariff available and the running costs are similar to an petrol or diesel vehicle doing 40mpg..... that's as long as you don't use a public charger otherwise they are much more expensive to run than a combustion engine.
Motability have probably got an over representation of staff favourable to a woke agenda. They probably truly believe their own propaganda about EV usage and certainly don't publish anything negative re customer experience. I personally like EVs as a means of propulsion but the infrastructure is not in place for hassle free travel and many EVs have a range far short of what is claimed.
Perhaps customer choice should be facilitated when there are genuine reasons if Motability truly wants to enable better opportunities for those with disabilities.

Hi Ben, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

It’s disappointing to hear that you have been unhappy with your EV. We understand that everyone’s circumstances will be different and that an EV may not be right for everyone.

Motability Operations aim to offer as many different car models and varients as we can. We are also dependent on what cars the manufacturers are making and other car market factors. In line with the Government’s ZEV mandate, manufacturers are producing more EVs and we are doing our best to support customers with the future changes. You can read more about the ZEV mandate on our news page, news.motability.co.uk/motoring/2-years-after-the-zev-mandate-whats-changed/.

Please rest assured, we will continue to offer diesel and petrol cars for as long as we can, to allow customers to make a choice that is right for them. Customers who are wanting to make the change to EV can find lots of useful information on our website, including details on range and charging motability.co.uk/get-support/electric-cars.

To ensure the Scheme is sustainable, all agreements are for three, or five years. Exiting your contract early is only agreed in really exceptional cases, so I am pleased the team were able to agree this with you. When a cancellation can be agreed, an administration fee is always charged.

If you need any further support with your car lease, you’re very welcome to contact us via Live Chat on our website and quote “Trustpilot”: motability.co.uk/get-support/contact. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6pm, and Saturday, 9am to 1pm.

Customer service is poor

Vehicle wise I cannot fault the help I have had when my circumstances changed and I needed to change vehicles.
But when it comes to "worry free motoring" and help when needed there are areas where the staff will turn their backs on customers and side with criminals.
I made the mistake of allowing my son and his wife to house my EV charger that Motability gave me. My son and his wife decided that they would never allow me to use it, they only wanted it so it would make their house more saleable and worth a little more. Motability refuse to help get it bacjk, refuse to send details of whom the charger belongs and therefore are helping two fraudsters to keep my charger. My son and his wife are in no way disabled, nor are their children, bujt for reasons best known to Motability they azre allowing a crime to be committed and will give no help at all. I have been arrested and I am on bail for daring to ask for my charger back. All this could be cleared up by Motability but they do not want to know. I suggest that if you get an EV and have to have it housed away from home then get an iron clad contract because Motability will not help.

Lacking in after services

I have a Peugeot via motability, waited 7 months. Car has gone back to Peugeot on a recall, should be a day. Given a full EV curtesy. Car now in for two days maybe four. Made contact with Peugeot to say how can I charge? Can you give me a lead to charge from mainframe at home, no all out, called motability. No we can’t help other than pay for taxis. Peugeot doesn’t care, well we’ve given you a car. Yes but how do I charge it.!!!! Not sure I will stay once lease runs out.

Hi William,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

I’m really pleased to hear you were provided with an electric courtesy car. Although, I’m sorry to hear that you have not been given a charging cable and that the recall is taking longer than expected. I completely appreciate your frustrations around this.

You did the right thing by booking your car in with Peugeot for the recall, as they manage the work and are responsible for your continuous mobility. As this is a manufacturing recall, we are not able to provide additional mobility during this time. I understand how helpful a charging cable would be, and if you’re unhappy that you were not provided with one, the best route is to raise this directly with your dealer.

For anything outside of general maintenance such as unplanned repairs, the RAC Repair Management Team can support you with onward mobility if needed.

I hope your car recall is completed soon and that you get your vehicle back at the earliest opportunity.

Best wishes,
Jess

Our experience with Motability has been…

Our experience with Motability has been nothing short of devastating. From day one we were misled, lied to, and left completely unsupported. We were promised an electric charger would be fitted at our old address with “no problems,” which turned out to be untrue. Our brand-new vehicle was then stuck in transportation mode for five weeks and unusable, during which time we were left without any temporary replacement. Repeated failed repair attempts, countless wasted days, unpaid time off work, emotional stress, and Motability’s complete lack of responsibility have pushed our family to breaking point. Their EV charger contractor failed us repeatedly—missed appointments, lies, unprofessional behaviour—and Motability still blamed us instead of fixing the problem.

After months of chasing, pleading and explaining the severe impact this was having on our disabled children, our finances, and our health, we were given no real support—only hostility, contradictions, and the suggestion that we should be “grateful.” We have been treated appallingly, made to feel like a burden rather than valued customers. Our family lives in a remote area and relies heavily on a vehicle for school runs and hospital appointments, yet Motability’s negligence has now left us without a car entirely. As of tomorrow, we will have no vehicle and will never use Motability again. The way we have been treated is immoral, unfair, and utterly unacceptable. Stay away from these!!!!

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback and experience with us.

I’m really sorry to hear how stressful this has been for you, and that you felt unsupported during the delays and mechanical issues. That’s never the experience we want for our customers, and I completely appreciate why you'd feel upset.

We would never expect any of our Scheme partners, or our own teams, to speak or act in a way that feels unhelpful. If you’ve had a difficult experience with a partner, we do recommend raising it with them directly as a formal complaint, as they’re best placed to look into what happened and put things right.

If your car is ever undriveable, the RAC Repair Management Team and the dealership are there to support you with your onward mobility and to repair the vehicle. Mechanical faults can happen unexpectedly, but you should always feel supported through the process.

very poor service from partner company's

I have been a customer of Motability for a few years, I recently broke down where the RAC took a week to recover the car, the stress I went through with all of there system of complain to the partner company's is not, satisfactory, very poor no answer from anyone to why the service is so poor. when you get a case manager they just make excuses for them. they don't care what there customer has gone through. I have now used three of there partner company's i have made complaints about all of them, the service is not satisfactory, its about time Motability took responsibility we pay you are contract is with you not the RAC or Europcar, I check the car up front payments every quarter, with the EV soon to be the only new car anyone can purchase, then the government grants to purchase one, why has the upfront prices increased so much, its as if you are pricing disabled drivers of the road, we have not got pots of money we survive on benefits, why are we not seeing a reduction because of the grants the government are putting in place?

Hi David,

Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback regarding Motability and our partner companies.

We are genuinely sorry to hear about the difficulties you faced during your recent breakdown and the stress caused by the delay in recovery. We understand how important reliable service and clear communication are, especially when dealing with unexpected situations.

We want to reassure you that supporting our customers is always our primary focus and this means that we may direct you to our partner companies to resolve an issue if they are better placed to help.
Each of our Scheme Partners has their own complaints procedure. When their service sadly does not meet your expectations, we do have to allow them the opportunity to resolve things for you.

Regarding your concerns about upfront payments for electric vehicles and the impact of government grants, we recognise the importance of affordability for our customers.

Some manufacturers have started applying for the Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG). If a car is approved and the grant makes it more affordable, manufacturers can update the Advance Payment (AP). However, only a small number of cars are eligible, and it’s up to the manufacturer to decide how to apply the grant. Not all prices will reduce, and our price guarantee remains unchanged. We always work with manufacturers to secure the best possible price for our customers.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts.

All the best,
Robyn

one very unhappy customer

I got a EV charger that was supplied by Motability, I have had nothing but problems with it. i have complained direct to the company about it from February to June, with very little support from the company .
I decided to contact Motability about it i was given a case manager then he went away so it was transferred to a different manager, then now back to the original one. They have not been very helpful at all , until this problem i always thought that Motability was good but my opinion of them has changed, why do they use company's who supply EV chargers that are incompatible with many cars, why do they not help people properly with there partner company's, i know there can be problems with products but to be treated by people like this is very poor, its as if the case managers look down on you for being disabled, its like you haven't paid for it what are you complaining for, we have new cars so they are reliable, these EV chargers are making the cars unreliable. still they just leave you on your own as they do not want to upset there partner company. i am one very un happy customer, your cars are great, your service on this occasion has been very poor,
In my opinion on your cars you have many choices why do we not get a choice with a EV charger, of given the choice of get your own charger and we will reduce the upfront cost to help you get your own, I feel that both Motability and the EV charger company, discriminate against disabled people.
If you are thinking of getting a EV ask can you get your own charger and have a reduction in the upfront payment or ask for a choice do your home work find one that works as the one they supply doesn't.

I have no patience left

I have no patience left. At first no one contacted me regarding the home charger Provided with an EV. Car after reporting this problem to Motobility.
After becoming extremely impatient after being promised callbacks and not receiving any calls, I was messed about for some time.
Then I was passed forward to a department that was supposed to be dealing with Ohme.
The gentleman passing me on to the Next team? Describe them as the best team to get things sorted, but apart from a few odd calls now and again with very long gaps, I has been left to me to deal with the failure to charge the car myself.
Ohme Charges do not work especially with the scenic EV but since looking further into the forums there are other cars that also are experiencing the same problem with the Ohme charger. If the charger doesn’t work, then it is not fit for purpose so why am I not being reimbursed. This has gone on since the 18 October 2024, but was brought to motobilty attention After checking Everything else was ok with the car, in December 2024.
I have had nothing but stress with a car that won’t charge and through no fault of my own, motobility wants to charge me to change the car even though I am left having to change the car by getting up 12.30am to manually start the charger, because it’s the only way we receive a charger to start, because the product provided doesn’t work as it should, because you should be able to program the charger.
Ohme is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. The poor customer service where no one having the ability to call or answer your calls, unless I write a bad review to get their attention with the reference ticket number, then You receive a call. This company Ohme, have passed me on to one customer service team after another because they simply run out of ideas of resolving my problem. I am now only receiving 15% charge regardless of me waking up at 12.30am which is not enough to keep the car running.Ohme are full of lies and nonsense and I have had enough.
Motobilty are aware I am struggling with several conditions, but in my opinion don’t care. Five times the car has been back to the dealership and on top of no charge this really is beyond a joke.
I’m extremely disappointed with motobility.
I have been more than patient, but the ombudsman is the only way forward.

Hi Christine,

I can appreciate your frustration and really appreciate you taking the time to explain your situation.
I want to reassure you that we take all complaints seriously but also want to make sure that each complaint is in the hands of the team best able to resolve it.

Any complaint about the service provided by our scheme partners should be addressed to them first. The reason for this is that, as a separate company, they will have their own complaints procedure. They are also well-placed to investigate the situation, particularly if it’s relating to their service or the product they have provided.

If you would like to chat further, please feel free to get in touch and quote “Trustpilot” on our Live Chat service which you can access via our website, https://www.motability.co.uk/. Our opening hours are 8:30am until 6pm, Monday to Friday and 9am until 1pm on Saturdays.

Totally incompetent regarding V5C documentation

When you join the Motability scheme they deliberately and intentionally cause you the maximum amount of problems. They ask you to put your name on the application form but you can ONLY PUT YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME IN, NO MIDDLE NAME AT ALL.

Motability knows full well that DVLA will NOT allow ANYONE to change their details with DVLA if their MIDDLE NAME is NOT recorded on Motability’s documentation that is sent to the DVLA which is supposed to be a true and fair record when in fact it is NOT AT ALL.

Every one’s DRIVING LICENCE has their MIDDLE NAME if applicable, recorded on it and it is the main part of the driving record as Motability KNOWS FULL WELL that DVLA holds on a driver registered with them.

Like a lot of people, I have my own record of the cars I own with the DVLA, my account. I decided to get a car through the Mobility scheme and have found nothing but problems from a terrible EV install with staff not knowing details and HALF EXPLAINING matters to you.

I tried to add my new Motability vehicle to my record held with the DVLA and gave up trying to do it thinking there was a glitch on their system. I eventually got A COPY OF MY V5C from Motability. I could see that there was a full description now of the vehicle confirming Motability had now sent the details to DVLA.

Thinking that that was causing the problem I again tried to register the new car but again it rejected the details. This was the last straw and after finding a phone number I rang and was put onto a helpful chap in the DVLA who gave me all the correct information.

THE ONLY REASON DVLA WOULD NOT ACCEPT MY DETAILS WAS THAT MY MIDDLE NAME WAS NOT ON THE DOCUMENTATION THAT MOTABILITY SENT TO THE DVLA!!

I will say it what a bunch of cowboys, how long have they been doing this and NOT ONE of them can oblige and record the basics.

I spoke to a chap called Ajai this morning, explained everything and he said he would get my middle name added and send me an amended copy of theV5C. That was at 9.15 when the corrected copy was sent.

I was to download the new form at 16.20 and found that nothing had been done at all. Why bother sending me a copy that nothing had been done to it? I rang and spoke to a young woman called Tjah who ignored what I said about my DVLA account and started going on about a personal number plate so not even listening to what I said at all. Frustrating and causing deliberate upset and annoyance and knowing full well of the upset she was causing.

I was to find out something that the first person NEVER told me and that was it would take up to two weeks for the DVLA to record the CORRECT ADDITIONAL records that MOTABILITY never recorded back in September 2024. Motability get your act together.

They only help you if you get an EV

What an atrocious experience, they are not there to help, they are there to push an agenda. I can't have an EV because I don't have a driveway & public charging is very expensive. It would equal running a car that does 19mpg & I'm unable to work. Motability grants will only help people who have an BEV, not people who need other ice cars on their scheme, which already cost twice the price of a BEV. These people need help from the scheme the most! I faced absolutely disgraceful discrimination in contact with this organisation, so much for helping disabled people.

3☆ is generous.....Not as helpful as you once were

My current car(VW Sharan)is my 2nd motability car.It was due to be changed in May'22,but the lease was extended by 6mths due to my PIP
being reviewed.Unfortunately, just before those 6mths were up,my car was hit by someone who, without slowing down, drove straight through a red light & smashed in to the side of my car.The police who attended the scene immediately deemed my car un-roadworthy& so it needed to be towed by the RAC,this was done while we were given the all clear at hospital(where we had been heading anyway, for an appointment I ended up missing).
The following day I contacted Motability about the details of the crash & to organise a hire car.The hire car was provided by EUROPCAR(the WORST hire car company I've ever dealt with)They supplied a car NOT fit for me to use:too low,my wheelchair & medical supplies would fit in but only with the back seat folded down,so I couldnt travel with my children. When it broke down, they MADE me take it to them,to exchange it for another(refused to drop off the replacement as they had previously stated they would&Motability WOULDN'T get involved/back me up)Plus they wanted/expected me to pay to fill the fuel tank on returned car,AS WELL AS the car I had just collected to replace it(which I refused to do).
The Sharan was off the road for 1YR!,in that time it travelled around the UK & was LOST by Motability.I had 1-2wkly phone calls trying to get updates/any information about my car as I would NEVER get a phone call from them.
It's now time to replace the Sharan(which I'm reluctant to do)All non EV Automatics 7seaters on the scheme have massively high AP's,so I applied for a grant(for a 2nd time). This time around I felt the questions were more invasive & weren't geared towards what I would NEED in a car. When I expressly wrote what I needed in a car, these were dismissed as 'wants'.Fuel types, due to area & lack of infrastructure were also met with 'wants not needs',so ignored.I was successful in gaining a grant,YET the grant offer included 3 CARS which didn't need any grant money at all,as they were £0AP?!Only 1 car included on the list was possibly viable:The Dacia Jogger. I had been offered a Grant of £995 to get an Automatic 7Seater PetrolHybrid(the ONLY 7seater under £2495). Everything I had written about my NEEDS had been ignored & treated as wants.
I've had to order the Dacia Jogger,as it was the only Non-EV on the Grant list I was given,BUT it's definitely not the best fit.My wheelchair will only fit in the boot, along with my medical equipment/supplies (which I need to carry at all times)when the 2 back seats are folded down/taken out.BUT it will only fit when the wheels have been taken off & the backrest is folded down(the only part of my chair that folds).I'm not able to lift my wheelchair in & out of the car myself(which Motability were informed about)& I'll be unable to take it apart(& put it back together)each & everytime I need to use my wheelchair & the car.My wheelchair being taken apart like this, takes up all the boot space in the Jogger, leaving very little/no room for anything else.I have 3 teenagers&they come 'with stuff'.It's a 'need' for the car to be practical as well, such as being able to fit 'normal everyday items' in your boot, like your shopping or luggage for instance, but there is no way anything else will fit in the Jogger with my wheelchair.
Ideally the VW 7seater would have been better,Or I would have been happy with the Sharan for another 1yr+.With the Government wanting the UK to go electric, the majority of cars on the scheme are EVs.What part of the UK you live in & if the EV charging network is actually in your area isn't part of the equation, this is something the grants team refuses to listen too. It's causing discrimination within the motability scheme itself.Disable people being discriminated by a charity that was set up to help them, how is that right or fair? The grants being given need to be done on actual needs, and the team actually listening to those needs(so looking at the disabilities & what the customer is asking for:IE;Heated seats~DegenerativeDiscDisease/bad back,is a NEED not a want.
Due to this experience, this may be my LAST Motability lease(the car has been ordered&is now due in late March).
I would just like motability to remember their original Vision & why they were originally set up, instead of focusing on profits and paying people at the top bonuses.
"Our vision is that no disabled person should be disadvantaged by poor access to transportation"
This doesn't seem to ring true anymore.
You seem to be out of touch. You don't know, understand or see the issues & struggles faced by the disabled community every day.

Hi Bally82,

Thanks for taking the time share your feedback.

Firstly, I would like to say how sorry I am to hear that you were in an accident. You mentioned that you had to go to the hospital to get checked over and I do hope that you were not hurt.

I can appreciate that the difficulties with both the hire car and the repairs to your Motability car were an extra concern that you did not need at the time. If you have not spoken to us about this yet, please reach out so that we can log your experience.
You can contact us on our Live Chat which you can access via our website, https://www.motability.co.uk/. Our opening hours are 8am until 7pm, Monday to Friday and 9am until 5pm on Saturdays. Simply quote “Trustpilot” when speaking to an advisor.

I understand that the issues with your grant application must have been worrying and I’m glad to hear that you have now managed to order your next car. Whilst I cannot comment on the process for grants as this is managed by the Motability Foundation, I’d be happy to explain a bit further about the higher Advance Payments (APs).

We consider lots of things when calculating the cost of a lease. This includes the cost to buy the car from the manufacturer and how much we expect to sell the car for at the end of a lease. We also look at the cost of insurance, maintenance, breakdown cover, tyres and glass repairs. If the cost of the lease will be more than your allowance payments over three years, we’ll then set an Advance Payment. These factors are all influenced by what is happening in the car industry and the wider economy, including inflation and the cost of living. With the rising cost of cars and other aspects of the lease package, some APs have increased.
With regards to profit, Motability Operations is the commercial organisation that runs the Motability Scheme, overseen by the Motability Foundation which is a charity. We do not pay shareholder dividends and reinvest any profits back into the Scheme to benefit our customers. So you know, in our most recent financial report we did not make a profit.

I hope that this has helped to explain but, if you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch.

All the best,
Robyn

Discriminative company who bully the vulnerable

At all costs avoid having an EV with Motability they miss sold the product to me promised discounted rates on electric charge. I have had the EV for almost 3 months and been charged the full amount for electric. There have been non-stop issues with this company. The staff are discriminative towards me. They are more interested in looking after the staff where the staff have unexpected emergency time away from the office and not dealing with the complaints. You have staff members one lady called Gemma who stated she was a manager but refused me to make a complaint by email. A complaint was put in regarding this woman about her discriminated remarks and the way that she treated me over the phone. They stated in emails that they are upholding my complaint which states the complaint is discriminative yet another member of staff is denying this even though I have the email the car I have now is perfect for my physical needs however I feel that this company have pushed me and forcing me to get a different car Because I can’t afford the advanced payment of the same car but in petrol, but they’re willing to offer me worthless compensation but not willing to help me pay for the advance payment for the same car. This is all their fault initially and as a result I self harmed with serious medication because of these people and on the 18th of November when trying to explain this to another complaints advisor her response was that she finds it unfair that I am saying this they don’t know me they’re taking my disability money but A forcing me to either go with a car which will cause physical problems with me because their prices are extortionate for advanced payments. They think this will resolve the complaints however it won’t I notice on their calls whilst waiting to get through to an operator they ask for you to be courteous and kind to their staff members so why are they putting this on their voice calls, it is clear that they think they can speak to customers and treat them like something from under their shoe. They choose not to listen to the customer yet because I kicked off because the narcissistic woman stated that she found it unfair that I said that I self harmed because of Motability even though she’s not medically qualified she doesn’t know me. I have to put up with this abuse from them.
So be careful, they will mis sell you. You even write to the CEO and it gets passed down to whoever that isn’t the CEO and the problem doesn’t get resolved I then get an official warning but their staff can be so disrespectful. They can have their own comments and think they can get away with that. I have no other option other than to start legal action against this company for discrimination and for the unfair treatment that I’ve been given it’s a simple fact. They are bullies they don’t give you the correct information and this has been going on for three months. And each time you have to speak to them they caused me absolute distress and horror when this shouldn’t happen it is even got to the point that I’m prepared to forfeit my personal Independence payment even though I’m entitled to it to get them out of my life. So what do I do? I’ve paid over £2000 in electricity alone to charge the car for nearly 12 weeks. It is costing me a fortune. We are not equipped currently for EVS in this country and Motability are miss selling these cars and then are putting the blame on the customer who they must remember are getting a salary out out of my allowance. So what do I do now? Go for a car which I know will cost me physical problems because it’s cheaper up front payment or suffer financially at the cost of this company and the rudeness and the bullying that I have experienced. Ever since the law changed where people with mental health issues are entitled to have enhanced rate mobility for personal Independence payment it seems that Motability have not taken this on board and as still thinking they’re treating people who have physical issues alone they have caused me distress upset. I’ve even stated this to Gemma on the phone And yet they won’t put nothing in support or place. They want £2000 advance payment for the petrol version of the car driving now for which I can’t afford and I’ve been told I cannot get a disability support grant because it won’t be awarded on the grounds of the fuel change.
I am so exhausted with this company and I can say they have keyboard warrior working within their departments

Degraded service due the scheme changes

I wish there was a way you could separate different aspects of this scheme.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 for the support of the staff and how hard they all work. They have always been very understanding and patient of different people's needs.

Unfortunately, changes to the scheme have degraded the service so much, purchasing a used vehicle, private insurer and breakdown is probably a more secure option.

⭐️⭐️2 The change of a very efficient and helpful Royal Sun Alliance to Direct Line Motabilty is a great way to demonstrate you are making savings without saying your doing this to save money. Not only have I been left stranded 200 miles from home and had to make my own way after an accident, because it was close to DLM closing time, "we are closing soon, someone will contact you in a couple of days, bye!" But since then just an email to ask for a review on how well they did!

⭐️⭐️⭐️3. RAC this service has gone downhill so much. Really helpful if its simple, like flat 12v battery in an EV. But in an accident, leaving the car at the scene of an accident with the keys for 24 hours, then transported it another 50 miles further away only to leave it in storage in an unknown location (still no idea where it is). Nice enough people, always polite, to your face. But hiding behind your van and speaking to colleagues in a way that was very inappropriate thinking age means deaf senile old .... (in his words).

⭐️1. Changes to the scheme means leasing from a traditional lease company with wider choice, not just supporting Chinese manufacturers (nice cars - you try getting spares), is only slightly different. But you get to choose own insurance company and car cover.
