Bought a Nighthawk X4S

Bought a Nighthawk X4S. Cost well over a £100. It performed so poorly my tenants replaced it with a £40 extender. I then thought it deserved a second chance, that it couldn’t be that bad. But then it wouldn’t even connect to the internet. I tried all their online suggestions and trouble shooting, factory reset etc. So I called Technical support and they said I needed to pay for technical support as it was out of warranty!! Are you serious?? I think that’s the first time I have called a company and they have requested to be paid to give advice on how to fix they’re poor product.

Bought the wifi extender, I can’t hook it up because it’s not admitting a signal it self. Trouble shooting tips, tell me to hook a computer up to it and reprogram the thing. Are you kidding me. Pure junk

Bought a WIFI extender, lasted all of 4 days! Looking like I can’t get a refund as it is deemed “a problem with the app not the extender” customer service was little to no help.
My advice, please choose another brand

So I decided to go with a Netgear Orbi…

So I decided to go with a Netgear Orbi 960 because I knew it was a good router. I was right. The policies and support is another matter. I purchased the router online and hours later I received a 10% discount. I called and they refused to apply it or allow me to cancel the order. Even though they did not yet give the order to the warehouse, they said I would have to receive the order and then return it. They assess just how much pain the customer will bare before giving up. Real jerks. The discount would have been $160.00.
Tech support is another real joyride. I just migrated from an unreliable 20Mbps DSL internet connection to a 940Mbps Fiber network. My Orbi did not connect as advertised. I called tech support and they ran me through the same process eight times, asking a dozen times if my cable connections was correct. They assume you are an idiot. I gave up and called Quantum, my internet service provider. They quickly told me I needed to set a specific VLAN on my internet port. Just that , nothing else. I called back the 3rd tech and they directed me to the Vlan menu. Cool, I was about to edit the internet Vlan, and they said NO! Their stuff needed to add another Vian. It did not sound right but I followed the instructions. I didn’t work of course. The Netgear tech claimed my internet provider needed to registered my MAC address. This was nonsense. I called back and told the next tech that I was back in the menu and I needed to delete the bogus Vlan the earlier tech had me put in and I needed to change the internet Vlan from 10 to 201. This guy actually refused to help. He insisted the Vlan had to stay 10. We agreed to part ways. I change the Vlan, saved it and the internet came blazing up at the full 940 Mbps.
Look, the routers are not perfect but they are good. However, the routers may not be worth it if you need tech support. They DO NOT listen. They are condescending and arrogant. The fact that they cut you off from tech support so soon after purchasing a product is probably a blessing.

Don’t waste your money on pro support

Purchased Netgear February a couple years ago, but decided to purchase the pro support 3 months later. Started having trouble and called customer service to get some help or if I needed to upgrade, but when I called, I was told my pro support had expired. Supposedly, anytime you buy pro support, it reverts back to purchase date which is nuts. I purchased “2 yrs” of pro support or at least paid for 2 yrs. They sent me an email the next day with a case number to use email response for future correspondence. Well, I had documented the day I purchased pro support and responded the the email instructed to use per Netgear. Of course, since had the actual invoice, never heard back (2 weeks now and of course expired. I even got an email notice from Netgear my pro support was “getting ready to expire” and their notice had the date of my invoice, not purchase date. So, their notice contradicted what customer support was insisting. Needless to say, awful support and won’t need it much longer as I will never buy Netgear again and just wasted money on a 2 year pro support scam! Disgusted and dissatisfied!!! 😡

Zero stars if possible - absolutely appalling.

Purchased at great expense - RBK850 (router and one satellite) 10 months ago. However, never got good coverage (despite moving router and satellite around) and our home is a quarter of the size the system is meant to cover. After numerous calls with netgear - rebooting / reinstalling the whole system numerous times - I was told that we may need more satellites (1600sqft single story) to cover 7500sqft !! Tech support confirmed that the rbs750 (still wifi 6) would work perfectly with the rbk850 system. purchased several rbs750s - tried installing the first one - 15 ft from the main router - would not find the satellite - despite several attempts. Called tech support - went thru several tries again (all repeating what I'd already done). tech support orbi 750 team said they'd have to pass me to the orbi 850 team instead but wuld pass all info from the 1hr call to them and it would only take a couple of mins. 30 mins later no info passed on and had to go thru it all with next tech person. She then informed me that netgear have a dedicated team re 850 to 750 interaction - again 1-2 mins to get thru and she'd ensure all info passed on !!! 45 mins later still on phone waiting - so 2hrs 15mins so far for a brand new product not to work. Will look at returning it all tomorrow and will never ever be buying from netgear again - absolutely appalling customer service even within the first 90 days !!!! and now over £1600 spent and a system that does not even cover a 1600sqft bungalow !!! strange I tried searching for complaints on the netgear website - no policy / no procedure/ no contact - no way to escalate and getting through to anyone is totally impossible !!!

Blood pressure raising experience

We purchased an Orbi CBK 752 on April 28th. We decided to buy directly from Netgear, instead of a third party, to have quick access to customer support. We were wrong.
The device arrived on May 3rd and after hours with a technician, we were unable to set it up. The tech advised us to return/exchange the device.
We called the Netgear store to initiate the return exchange this morning, May 4, and were told to that only a Level Two tech could sign off the replacement, not the Level 1 tech who had assisted me. I would have to wait and “keep my line open” for 24 to 48 for the Level 2 tech’s call!
I called Netgear store several hours later to request a replacement without waiting for the Level 2 tech’s call back because I do not have the luxury of being tethered indefinitely to the phone and the equipment for yet another diagnostic session.
The representative acceded to replacing our defective unit without the Level 2 tech’s concurrence but we would have to wait for 3-5 working days after our replacement was processed to receive it. We would have to pay $29 to have it delivered sooner.
It is unconscionable that, as the consumer, we are made to accede to their conditions when, by no fault of our own, we receive a defective product. We are the ones who have to chase after them to make it right.
Netgear has great products, if one is not unlucky enough to have received a lemon. I also bought a two year support contract with the CBK 752 and it didn’t seem to make a difference.
I hope others have a much better experience.

There is NO chance in hell I ever buy a NETGEAR product again. I can't even email the customer support after the "complementary" service time has expired. It's a 400$ product and they won't even take your call... Even when it's their product that is broken.

NEVER BUY NETGEAR YOU WILL REGRET IT DEEPLY, THIS IS MY PROMISE TO YOU!

I really wish I could give negative stars. I received an email 1 hour ago stating that I requested to reset my password. I did not put in that request because I wasn't aware I even had a netgear account. I googled and called the customer service number just to be told they couldn't help me because I wouldn't give additional sensitive information. Then I was told to screen shot the email and send it to them but it was probably spam. I confirmed the sent from email address with the person on the phone and it is theirs. Still wouldn't help me.

Netgear customer service rep (from India) hung up on me when I said “oh my gosh” after his 5th identification question.

Netgear Nighthawk RAX50 has failed twice in 7 months. Their warranty last 90 days. You have to get their maintenance plan before they will help you. You get the picture. Do not buy Netgear products.

Terrible Customer Support

I purchased a Netgear modem on November 15, 2021. I received an email from Netgear in February 2022 offering me the opportunity to EXTEND my technical support for two years. On February 15, 2022, I purchased Extended Warranty and Support for $79.99, but was told subsequently that my extended support ended November 15, 2023, two years after the date of original purchase. My modem came with 90 days of complimentary technical support, ending on February 15, 2022. Therefore a two-year EXTENSION of my free support should end not on November 15, 2023, but on February 15, 2024. If that is not the case, I purchased not two years of extended support but only one year and nine months of extended support.

Netgear misrepresents the nature of this extended warranty support: I am being charged for two years of extended support but am receiving only one year and nine months. It is a pity the a company with such a good reputation for its products and support would misrepresent the nature of its services and falsely advertise an extended warranty service. It also seems to me that since surely the cost of the additional three months of support is minimal, this is an example of poor public relations.

Money grabber company!

Back in april we had a thunderstorm. So our Suddenlink router went out. Fried. Instead of waiting for a new Suddenlink router(which could take days) my husband purchased our Netgear router from Walmart. It was outrageous what my husband had to go through just to create an account. Ugh. Not only that we had to call our internet provider, Suddenlink, to connect the wifi to the Netgear router. Well for months no problem. Except for the past week the wifi has been crashing off and on. Yesterday night we sat down to watch movies. But the wifi crashed. We called Suddenlink. They said it was good on thier end. They told my husband that because he pushed the reset button that it reset it to factory reset. So he was told to call Netgear. My husband tried to log into his Netgear account. It was asking security questions that he would had never chosen. Did not make sense. So we spoke to a male rep through Netgear. All we wanted was to be directed through reconnecting our wifi. The rep told us that since it had been over 3 months...that technical support was no longer free. Lol. WOW! Even over the phone! He said he would guide us through it..if it worked they would charge us $80 for tech support. Hahaha! Money grabbers. That's how they get you. Funny enough...we hung up on Netgear and called Suddenlink back. My husband explained the situation. And all of a sudden the wifi reconnected. It's a scam. All Netgear had to do was reconnect the signal. They did AFTER we hung up with them. So beware people. We might eventually go back to our internet provider router.

Worst customer service I've ever encountered anywhere at any time

MONTHS ago I bought and installed a modem/router. Changing the password has been an impossible task to date. Have on over 5 occasions had long waits for customer service -- last week gave up after an hour on hold. In the past, had a hopeless rep when I did get one -- someone who was NO HELP, kept me an hour on the phone and his summary of the conversation made it clear he did not even understand the REASON FOR MY CALL, providing as the reason I called another one that had nothing to do with the problem. In the background a chicken crowing and his Indian accent added to the sense I was not going to get the answers I asked for. Solely because of their so-called "customer service" NEVER EVER AGAIN will I buy anything from NetGear and will always check to make sure what I buy is not from a company rebranded from NetGear. Buying their support contract package has not helped at all. It's truly unbelievable how IMPOSSIBLE it has been to get someone on the phone within a 30 minute wait WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS HOW TO OVERCOME BARRIERS TO CHANGING A PASSWORD. Or for that matter to get to anyone who can write or direct me to A SIMPLE EXPLANATION IN RESPONSE TO OUR SCREEN SHOTS of the barrier we face. Beyond belief for sure.
