A great customer experience all round

A great customer experience all round, from start to finish nothing has been too much trouble for this brilliant team. We have bought our second Bailey from this lovely lot and would highly recommend the business to anyone looking for a quality motorhome without the rip off price tag! Well done team!

Buyers Beware!!!!

We purchased a motorhome from Northern Motorhomes in April 2025 for £15,000 and our experience has been deeply disappointing.

Less than a year later, during a pre-MOT inspection, extensive structural corrosion was discovered requiring major welding repairs. Our independent welding specialist advised that the corrosion was long-standing and would not have developed during the period we had owned the vehicle.

The damage was so significant that the vehicle was deemed unsafe and required five steel repair plates to be fabricated and welded in order to restore its structural integrity and make it roadworthy again.

When collecting the motorhome, we were told that Northern Motorhomes had “blacked” / undersealed the underside for us prior to handover. It has since become apparent that the underside had been heavily coated, with serious corrosion present beneath. The blacking concealed the corrosion from both ourselves and the MOT garage until further investigation was carried out.

Based on our experience, it raises serious concerns as to whether vehicles with known issues are being purchased and resold without proper repair or disclosure.

We raised these concerns with the company immediately and gave them the opportunity to inspect the vehicle before repairs commenced. Although our complaint was acknowledged and we were told the matter would be discussed internally, no meaningful response was ever provided and no attempt was made to inspect the vehicle or resolve the matter.

As a result, we were left with no option but to proceed with substantial repairs at our own expense in order to keep the vehicle safe and roadworthy.

We are extremely disappointed not only with the condition in which this vehicle was sold to us, but also with the complete lack of after-sales support when serious issues were brought to their attention. Based on our experience, we would strongly advise others to exercise caution and ensure any vehicle purchased is independently inspected before committing.

Stay away from this company

Been looking for a campervan for a few months.
We have one before and regretted letting it go, so after 2 years of saving we decided to look again and get back on new adventures. After looking online and ads of FB we liked a van at northern motors homes. It’s actually Stephen Bell Leisure that sell them. Based in Skipton.
I went to look at a VW transporter conversion 2018 reg van in green and white. Converted inside and a PopTop, so 4 berth. I travelled over to Skipton and after speaking over the phone I got there to meet their sales guy called Mario. He was polite and let me look around the van. I explained that a few things needed doing on the van such as the 240v socket which was connected to the van battery! Not at the back and needed moving and the paintwork needed attention. He didn’t seem too bothered and wondered off for 20 mins and left me to look round it. I left saying I would get in touch if interest, he agreed and said the work would be done I mentioned, don’t worry it will be great, as went to look at another van.
Later that day I paid a 1k desposit and with a promise that the van would be ready, fit for purpose and the work carried out correctly as agreed on point of sale. This was the 30th Jan.
I had to quiz the vans history and Mario was very vague. I paid for a history check because he didn’t even know! No MOT recorded for a year! He didn’t answer why the van has been stood for ages. I was reassured it’s all ok, don’t worry he said, it will be sorted. The van was priced at £25,995. On Friday the 13th I paid another 5k towards the van and was paying rest next day.
So after getting 4 trains and a taxi them on the Saturday went to collect the van.
When I got there no one was about, I’d come straight from Liverpool as was working. The van was parked in muck and puddles and not been cleaned which wasn’t a good start. The barn doors had a lock issue would not open and took 10 mins to figure it out by 4 people!
When I checked the 240v wiring to the back. It was clear it wasn’t done correctly. A fire hazard without a doubt and rest of the cables on the conversion not covered. The body work treatment was not even done! The van was filthy inside and didn’t help that 2 people got in the van with mud and made it worse. I complained and they started cleaning it. Not professional at all.
It was not up to standard as sold and promised, the workmanship was awful and they didn’t seem to care. Mario did not take it seriously.
So I refused to take the van and wanted my money back. I have a right don’t I?
Well, easy said than done with these cowboys!
No mention that the desposit of 1k wasn’t refundable!
When I agreed over the phone and paid online.
But that doesn’t matter, I was entitled to all my money back totally 6K! I got the 5K back 3 days later! But got told they were not going to give my desposit back as per their terms and conditions. After emails back and fourth and then speaking to the owner Stephen, how totally denied they had done anything wrong. I was told we’ve done the MOT, service and checks, it’s cost us. Well isn’t that up to the seller and company as stated in the advert? I eventually, after explaining time and time again the principle of the matter I only got £500 back but they’ve keep the other £500. So I am out of pocket by £500 because of their incompetence. Absolutely outrageous considering the van wasn’t for purpose and the work wasnt done fully as promised when sold. Don’t I have rights!?
Steer well clear of this company, you will get ripped off!!
While they come across as polite don’t trust them or the vehicles they acquire. It’s a shambles!
I don’t recommend them at all, stay away!
And Stephen has no idea why I was complaining!
Glad I didn’t get the vehicle. The stress and worry was time consuming and have affected me.
Please do not buy from these people.

I have reviewed this company already

I have reviewed this company already, the day after we purchased our motorhome. We were very happy. Unfortunately, the after sales service is sadly lacking. On first use we discovered that the Habitation Check had not been done correctly as we had a blocked sink and several weeks later discovered leaks from the joints for the clean water supply. This had led to rotting wood behind the driver's seat as the leak ran under the bathroom. This must have happened before as the wood was breaking up it was so wet. We returned the MH (45 miles) and had to get three trains and a taxi to get home. After several weeks we were finally told that it was done and ready to collect. Despite laying dust sheets on the floor and supplying many more to be used, we found everything was covered in sawdust, despite being told it had been cleaned. We were not offered a penny to cover the £70+ that I was out of pocket due to this poor workmanship. The company they use to do the HCs are not registered with either national body, and made no effort to supply us with official paperwork to show what had been done. Neither did NMHB, they simply sent an e-mail a few days later. Whilst we are happy with the repairs, we feel that we were not given the respect we deserve (and neither was our second home), communication was poor to say the least, and being left out of pocket because their client failed to do the job right in the first place is a disgrace. IF you decide to use these people to but a MH etc, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THAT EVERYTHING WORKS CORRECTLY BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT AWAY. Once they have your money, the politeness ends!!

Outrageous treatment.

My initial contact with this company was excellent, enquired about a motorhome I saw on auto trader and Facebook, requested a walk round video, they asked for my number and called me to verify I was genuine and following a very pleasant conversation sent a video, called me to check I had received the video and arranged to go see the motorhome straight away, told them I was traveling over 80 miles to view the motorhome, was in constant contact with them whilst travelling, the journey took over 2 hours, called them to get final directions as the sat nav did not find location and was they sent a member of staff to meet us at the entrance to the farm, great service.... Then was met by Mario to be told he had just sold the motorhome 15 minutes before we arrived.
If that is how they treat customers before they hand over any money god knows how they treat them when they have handed over the cash.

I am appalled by the way Mario treated us, he seemed to think it was a joke, well I did not find it funny......

Really awful company with a terrible attitude.

If I could give a 0 I would. We were really interested in a camper van this company had for sale, so much so that we went to see it. We went away to think about it but had really made up our minds that we wanted to buy it. When I called just to ask a few questions, I got answers to some off them, but when I said that I wanted to see the MOT before I put down my deposit they said no. Their reason being that whatever was wrong with it they would put right. So I said I’d think about it. They next day I spoke to the owner, Stephen, and again asked him if I could see the MOT before I put down my deposit. Again he said no because whatever was wrong with it they would fix, even advisories. I said I would pay for the MOT if it made them feel more comfortable, again they refused. I asked if I could have an independent mechanic look over the vehicle before I put down my deposit and he said absolutely not. So bearing in mind this van had already had 8 owners and they wanted 22,995 for it and they refused to let me see an MOT or have an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle, the only conclusion I can reasonably come to is that they aren’t a very reputable company at all. And yes I know they have no legal obligation to let me do an independent inspection, but every decent company with nothing to hide has never had a problem with it.
I definitely do not recommend them at all. I think I probably had a lucky escape.
