Very disappointed with my experience with NYIAD Landscape Design. Keep in mind that if you pay in full, you will not receive the full coursework until you complete specific units. I stopped at Unit 2... See more

Great Course, Awesome Value👍🏼

I am very happy with the CAD course I am taking through NYIAD. My wife and I have hectic schedules, we both work minimum full time, we are new parents, and both have many friend and family obligations each year. Time is gold to us! I haven't been able to log in as regularly as I like, but I have set aside large dedicated blocks of time for this class. Though this method is not ideal, as the course is self paced, I have still been able to accomplish a third of it in 10 or so sittings.
The course is book based, which is not the greatest for CAD, however, for the price and flexibility of the course, it’s WELL WORTH IT!
To anyone who wants to work in CAD or wants to get their certification in it, I would recommend this course. Two thumbs up from me. 👍🏼👍🏼

I believe the content along with the…

I believe the content along with the pics are very informative. Sometimes the questions on the test get a little confusing because it's worded differently than what's been said in the chapter. However, it makes you think a little deeper about what the chapter and questions are trying to convey in the test. I appreciate the short videos that give a clear summery of certain key elements within the chapter. I also appreciate the chat room though I don't use it as much as I should but when I do, it motivates me to see other NYIAD students. Thank you for all the information and opportunity to start something new!
Sincerely,
Marvina ILao

Personal Styling course- filled with errors

This review is for the Personal Styling course- the material is filled with grammatical and spelling errors, is outdated, and in some cases, out of order! There is a video that references something that comes up in a later video, as if the material was already covered (that's just one example).

Videos will make reference to a popular trend from "four years ago" but without knowing when the video was actually created and what year that actually was, it's not a useful detail. Some of the material seems to contradict itself.

I was expecting more of a back and forth dialogue with my "mentor"- from my experience, the mentors are mainly in place to grade your assignments, without some regular "check-in" component. One of the aspects of the program that sold me was the "mentor" feature but I haven't really seen it in practice.

I also was sold on the school being "licensed" by the NYS Education Department but from what I've seen, the quality is lacking and I'm kind of ashamed at the wonderful state of New York for licensing the programs. I wasn't impressed with the resources and sources cited in the material at all- many sources were links to old websites rather than anything more "academic".

Grateful for the opportunity to learn…

Grateful for the opportunity to learn from professionals.
Following the layout of the lessons was not always easy. Also communications could have been better. Not having more than one person to advise was frustrating.
I inquired about my gift for payment method and was told it applied to 2016. Never got it, but paid in 2016...

More money?? Seriously?

I paid for my course in full & I don’t understand why you give me a certain amount of time to finish the course. Then I have to pay MORE to get an extension?!?! Absolutely ridiculous!! I paid the course off, I should have all the time in the world to finish it. It’s my hard earned money going to YOU. I work 2 jobs & am caring for a sick parent. You tell me when I have time to finish it???? I’m very upset that it was pretty much nothing but a waste of money. Money I could’ve used for gas or groceries. So much for my dreams.

The training is good but needs more..

The training is good but there are no templates for practical use. For example, for event planners, NYIAD should provide a sample schedule with real tasks so that students have the tools to begin working. Sample contracts would be helpful as well. Any sample template would be worth while over the test version explaining the need for the document.

NYIAD jewelry design course

I took a jewelry design course with NYIAD. It was well-rounded, fairly priced and a great experience. I would recommend it to any beginner that wants to start a journey in designing jewelry.

I have some problems of time to study

I have some problems of time to study, but this it´s not a fault of NYIAD.
A
My biggest problem is about the project because you ask me what if I have difficults about some concepts and ask me to find pictures and explain. And I really could not find the exemples of difficulties because I knew at least 90% of the vocabulary. Many French words that´s easy for me because Frech it´s my second language. And, because this, I had stopped for many days because I don´t know what to do.
So far, it´s my "biggest" problem.

Very poor customer service

Very poor customer service. It should not take up to 2 weeks to grade the work that was turned in and then another week to return it back to the student. If the school is that busy then they should consider hiring more teachers so the turn time is not so long. And also it seems take 2-5 days for the student advisors to answer an email.

I am really enjoying this class

I am really enjoying this class. They go into a lot of detail and break it down really nicely. There is a lot of reading and I like the new update they made to the site. It is easier to navigate now. I wished I would have bought the paper book and I still might. There are some spots where they are wanting you to follow along and without that paper book I don't know exactly what they are talking about. I wished they would offer an audio version of the class also. But overall this is a great learning experience for me and worth the time I've spent on my class.

"Back on track" is possible

I enrolled in NYIAD a couple of years ago. During the course of time I encountered quite a few difficulties, including a terrible hurricane and its aftermath. Once I was stable from the inconveniences and working on my resilience, I decided to return to my Interior Design course. I called NYIAD and the staff gladly assisted me and gave me the support I needed. I am currently back on track and I feel grateful.

Amazing program

I’m so glad to have completed the interior design program with NYIAD! I feel that I’ve learned so much and have already implemented what I’ve learned. A few things were challenging, using regular mail was hard on timing, and also the short chapters on kitchen and bathroom designs I wish would have been more extensive. But over all a really awesome program

For the most part I enjoyed my course

For the most part I enjoyed my course. I did feel I should have had some drafting experience before hand. I also think they should have recommended some good books or teaching videos that would have helped a great deal. Learning the different styles/eras of home furnishings were difficult to figure out on the copies you were given for grading. Photos of the furniture would have been so much easier to distinguish them. Also the very short history on Islam was false. They have never conquered anything/anyone peacefully. It is always with violence. I suggest you leave out this statement all together.
