Great service v4 flooring

Hi James,
I just wanted to thank you for the flooring and all the advice. All arrived well packaged and free from damage. I have never fitted engineered oak flooring before and I must say I am very pleased with the finish and how easy it was to lay - I glued it and laid it as a floating floor on underlay. I have one full pack left but these were planks which I chose not to use.

All I need now is some skirting and a floor mop!

I will be recommending you to all my friends.

Amazing advice and service throughout

Peter from Oak Woods Outlet was incredibly helpful and responsive throughout. I was looking for herringbone flooring and he was a fountain of knowledge, and there to update me and answer questions throughout the entire process all the way to ensuring I knew when delivery would be made. Highly recommend and will definitely buy from Oak Woods Outlet again!

a refreshing experience

What a refreshing company to engage with. James was very helpful from beginning to end. There were a couple of damaged items which he resolved with no problem and very swiftly.

All in all highly recommended. In times of increasing AI, it’s makes a change to be able to deal with a person and actually have a number to call.

Very bad quality

Very bad quality. Even if you drop a pen on the floor, it gets damaged. Any liquid that you spill, the floor remains with permanent stains. When we got the wood floor, all the plaques were very flexed, they were not firm at all, very very bad quality.

I tried to discuss with the retailer and even if they are very responsive, they won't help you at all. They are always trying to say that it's customers fault and if you want, you can ask for a consultant that would cost around £500. Very bad quality and experience. How could be customers fault when all the plaques were flexed?

You answer here doesn't reflect the reality. The floor is damaged in all rooms, not only in the room where the furniture installer damaged it. Again, same excuses, but the reality is that the wood floor is a very low quality one.

I’m so sorry you are not happy with your wood flooring and you felt our service warranted a one star rating; particularly as you had agreed that your fitter was very poor and that we were responsive to your messages throughout as you say.

We take customer service very seriously and do all we can to ensure customer satisfaction. Ourselves and the manufacturer immediately investigated the issues you were facing as soon as we were made aware of them.

For the benefit of completeness, I will outline the details of your case in this reply, but I apologise in advance that I may be repeating some of what we have said to you previously.

Firstly, I just want to clarify as your review doesn’t clearly portray the timeline of events. The first we heard from you was several weeks after the installation. If indeed the boards had been bowed or in any way defective prior to installation, this was not communicated to us at the time.

Of course, had the issue been raised then, we could have investigated before the flooring had been installed, but to date, we are yet to see any evidence of bowed planks pre-installation.

Regardless, after we learned of the issue we immediately launched an investigation and requested information from yourself and your fitter. Your fitter, however, was unable to provide even basic information typical of any installation. As our investigation continued you informed us that your fitter had gone AWOL and was no longer replying to any of your messages.

We pressed on with our investigation and also passed all the information to Furlong without prejudice i.e. we did not express a view, only passed on your emails and images. We both arrived at the same conclusion which was the issues you were facing were down to a very poor installation.

Most notably, there was no expansion gap provided and the issues with boards bowing/moving/squeaking were a textbook response to the floor not having room to expand. We cannot stress enough how vitally important these expansion gaps are to all wood flooring installations.

The report also stated that wood flooring is produced in batches of thousands of square metres at a time and as such, any error would be present across a larger proportion of the batch than the 50m2 you had installed. Furlong had confirmed that no other issues had been reported in this batch.

Furthermore, by fitting the boards, the implication is that there wouldn’t have been severe bowing otherwise any fitter, irrespective of skill level, would have not proceeded and would have queried it with ourselves or at the very least taken images before proceeding.

I’m sorry you feel that we were attributing fault to you. This was not the case at all. The investigation clearly concluded this was the fault of the fitter who ultimately did not even have the courtesy or confidence to stand by his work or provide basic evidence. Very few of the installation instructions were followed including the most important of any wood flooring installation which is to leave appropriate expansion.

Although our investigation had concluded, we did not want to leave you high and dry particularly as your fitter was still not contactable. This is when we proposed an independent inspection. The purpose of this was to benefit yourself as regardless of outcome you would be in a better position.

We had agreed that if the independent inspector had in fact found that there was a product fault, we would cover the cost of the inspector and replace the flooring. If the inspector had arrived at the same conclusion as us which was that the issues were down to a very poor installation, you would have had excellent independent evidence to pursue your fitter however you saw fit. This could include legal action as the inspector would act as an expert witness in court and therefore you could recoup any costs as ultimately, it would only be right that the fitter foots the bill.

You contacted us again several months later on February 2nd to complain that the flooring was being far too easily damaged and even a dropping a fork would cause damage. We again asked for evidence of this to which you replied with images of large gouges that could not have possibly been made by a fork, but by much larger heavy/blunt objects. We requested more images showing minor damage caused by something like a fork or pen as you described, but to date we still have no evidence of this.

As ourselves and Furlong concluded at the time, the marks you had were due to accidental damage and not in anyway a product fault or lapse in quality. At this point you had stated you intended to seek legal advice to which we offered our complete and full cooperation. We again proposed an independent inspection as this is a standard approach across the flooring industry and the only way in which to move forward.

We can now see on your Trustpilot profile that a few days previous to contacting us (January 31st), you had complained to a furniture company claiming their installer had damaged your wood floor. This version of events far better matches the evidence you had supplied to us and our suspicion that the damage was caused by large/heavy/blunt objects i.e. a tradesmen’s tools.

We are sorry you have had so many issues initially caused by your fitter and a very bad installation and more recently, damage by a Furniture installer. In light of this and in the absence of any other evidence we are unable to pursue a claim with the manufacturer.

Apologies again your experience has not been all that you hoped and that we can not assist any further.

Fantastic place to get your floor

Fantastic place to get your floor. We are really happy with the quality of the engineered wood oak flooring that we purchased from Oakwood's Outlet. The customer support was also exceptional. James came to the shop specifically on a weekend to meet us and show us floor samples and he provided very helpful advise. Communication was easy throughout the process! And the price of the floor was significantly lower than other places we have looked at. Would 100% recommend Oakwoods outlet!!

Reasonably Priced, Excellent Quality, Very Knowledgeable

James was very knowledgable and professional. Found a flooring that matched our aesthetic and fitted our budget easily and arranged a prompt delivery!

Managed to get a much cheaper deal on the flooring than at other national and local flooring suppliers who were in many cases charging 50-75% more.

First class Service

I don't normally write reviews as I expect Good service from companies I decide to spend my money with otherwise I take my money elsewhere, however I am making an exception for Oakwood.
I bought my V4 Nordic Beach flooring from Oakwoods Outlet in October 2021. I needed over 100 m2 within a week as the previous supplier I was buying from fell through. They did not have the quantity I needed within the timeframe I needed it for and so without giving me any false hope they told me they will look into what they can do and get back to me. To my amazement, they got back to me within 24 hours and confirmed that they have secured the quantity I needed. The communication between myself and James was amazing. He was spot on with everything he said about the wood from timing between delivery and fitting and aftercare. I bought up to 10% more than I needed and James agreed that as long as the unused boxes remained unopened, they will collect (for a small fee) and refund me for the unused wood which they did within a week of them collecting the wood. James was able to answer all my email enquiries within hours and he even sent me samples of the cleaning materials I need to clean and protect my floor.
Oakwood exceeded my expectations and though I struggle to write reviews (hence the time lapse) I felt this should be an exception.

Fantastic service
