Do NOT use AniCura Østergaards Dyrehospital

When I got my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in June of 2017 I decided to use AniCura Aarhus Dyrehospital (AniCura AD) because they had a variety of specialists under the same roof. I saw that as a huge plus for my dogs health, as there would always be someone with knowledge within the same house.

Every year in June and in December I bought a health check. They checked the mucous membranes in her eyes, her knees, her bones in general, her ears, her teeth, they made blood tests and updated her vaccinations.

Around January 2019 my dog stopped eating and become really sick. She was in and out of AniCura AD over and over again.

Around the summer of 2021 AniCura AD decides to become an emergency veterinarian clinic only and starts a collaboration with AniCura Østergaards Dyrehospital (AniCura ØD)

During the very first visit to AniCura ØD the veterinarian told me they thought it would be a good idea to give Ella a dental check-up/clean. I have brushed Ellas teeth from day 1. Every day.

A tooth cleaning was scheduled for October 10th 2021. The veterinarian called me before they started the dental cleaning and tells me that the blood tests shows an infection, and that she needs my permission to move forward. I agree to the procedure.

When I came to pick up Ella, the veterinarian wanted to walk me through Ellas dental record and out of 42 teeth in her mouth, 1 tooth (!) was labeled as green. 11 teeth was yellow and 30 (!) teeth were red.

Basically a long story short, my much loved dog Ella had, according to the veterinarian Ella had been in sever and constant pain for years, due to an untreated and undiagnosed dental disease.

AniCura ØD wanted to remove (!) more than half of my dogs teeth as soon as possible, and they also decided to give her an antibiotic treatment for the infection in the roots of her teeth, which according to the scans that I got, were filled with holes. On top of that she got painkillers to take away the intense pain.

So not only have more than 4 supposedly well educated veterinarians not bothered to take one single X-Ray of my dogs teeth despite me paying them to specifically check her teeth, nor have they at anytime during a 2 year span considered that her eating problems simply came from unimaginable teeth pain, to which my dog have suffered on a unforgivable level.

On this very same day, October 10th 2021 I send an email to AniCura ØD and AniCura AD asking for a written statement of what had gone wrong in their treatment of my dog. I also asked to get Ellas complete medical files via email.

After this, I decided to take my dog to Aalborg Dyrehospital (Frederikstadvej 10) as they have a research program dedicated to Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs. I live in Aarhus, so it’s a 1,5 hour drive each way, but the anger and rage within me could never make me go back to any AniCura Hospital.

On November 19th 2021 Ella had 12 teeth removed via dental surgery at Aalborg Dyrehospital. The insurance did not cover anything, as it was a disease that had been developing over a long time. Price: 17.900 DKK.

AniCura ØD wanted to remove 21 teeth, due to pure neglect from AniCura AD. At this point Ella was barely 4,5 years old.

On March 23rd 2022 I contacted AniCura AD and AniCura ØD once more via email, as no one had gotten back to me on my initial email from October 2021.

On March 22rd 2022 the CEO of AniCura AD Britt Ingvertsen gets back to me, and asks if I want to come by AniCura AD to have a cup of coffee and talk about what have happened to my Ella. In the email she calls herself “rather new in the job as CEO” like that’s an excuse for the lack of communication and treatment. However, Linkedin tells me she have had the job for nearly 2 years.

I write back and tell her that I’m furious about the amount of pain they deliberately have put my dog through for years (!) and that I can’t meet with her before in the beginning of May, as I’m going away for work. I also tell her that I’m still waiting for a complete copy of Ellas medical journal.

Today, on June 9th 2022 I have once again not heard back from neither AniCura AD nor AniCura ØD - I have also not gotten a copy of Ellas medical journal.

AniCura might have great reviews due to the fact that they ask for reviews via email even if you take your pet in for a nail trim or fur cut. But I can never recommend a place that takes more than 9 month to answer an email or a place that sells you fake health checkups and during a span of 4 years and 8 different health checks don’t even make a single dental X-Ray. I can also not recommend a place that puts your pet through unimaginable pain and still charge you money for it or a place that wants to remove more than half of a young dogs teeth, without even giving the dog a chance to recover - from the disease left untreated by the veterinarians themself.

AniCURA does not cure anything.
