While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Old mutual needs to improve on customer service. To say the least, their hotline goes unanswered. Every time that I have called, my call has never been picked despite waiting 20 minutes or more.
One other thing that disappointed me this year was how they handled my request to transfer my pension to my new employer. I made the request through my old employers HR in March 2025, they responded to the email acknowledging receipt of my documents, but I didn’t get further feedback and I just assumed that things had been processed. In November 2025, I decided to check with them again just to check if my request was granted, only for my emails to be ignored for a while before someone emailed me back saying my request had not been addressed yet and they did not provide an explanation as to why a request made in March remains unaddressed after 8 months. If you are not serving your customers then really for whom do you even exist? Now I risk my pension being sent to the govt default fund as if I didn’t request a transfer. I hope they address this soon but truly I am disappointed. They can do better.
My experience with Old Mutual Malawi has been extremely frustrating and deeply disappointing. I opened three policy accounts for my children after being assured by a sales executive that the company had improved its systems and that payments and follow-ups were now being handled more efficiently.
Unfortunately, instead of honoring the agreed terms, Old Mutual began making unauthorized deductions that were higher than what was agreed. When I raised the issue, I was assured that the excess would be refunded and even received a notification confirming that a refund was being processed. However, the refund was never made.
To make matters worse, the same unauthorized deductions continued the following month. Again, I raised the issue and was persuaded to remain patient with the promise that the refund was on its way. Once more, nothing was done.
I was later contacted by a representative who personally assured me that the matter would be resolved within a week and that I could follow up directly with her. When I called to follow up, my calls went unanswered, and she never returned them. I also sent a follow-up email, which remains unacknowledged to this day.
This shows a consistent pattern of negligence, broken promises, and unprofessionalism. Old Mutual Malawi has not only failed to correct its own mistakes but has also disregarded the trust and patience of its clients.
Based on this experience, I would strongly advise others to avoid Old Mutual Malawi. They have proven to be unreliable, unprofessional, and incapable of delivering the service they promise.
