This company is unethical
This company is unethical. I went to One Medical with jaw pain, citing I had TMJ in the past. Rather than bill me for diagnosis (was it TMJ or something else) they unethically billed me for TMJ treatment.
As a result my insurance denied the claim. Despite repeated attempts they did not recode the visit. They also offered no way for me to escalate my complaint to a supervisor. It felt like a Kafka novel.
I appealed to the Washington Office of the Insurance Commissioner. And I won’t pay this bill.
Don't waste your breath
Used their services under the free trail. I did a phone call and chat gpt told me the urgent care phone call would be free but I haven't checked to see if they charged me. Anyway it was supposed to be a video call but 2-3 minutes in it asks you if you would like to get a call back and stop waiting on the line. So I did that and the doctor called me and said he couldn't preform a diagnosis without an in person visit after I explained to him I don't have insurance. I'm trying again this morning to see if i can get a different provider however it seems they're leaving me on hold until i agree to their phone call service because i've been waiting well over 26 minutes to be seen. I'm cancelling before they can charge me anything. What a waste of time and money.
One Medical has changed - not for the better
When I started using 1 Med, about 12 years ago they were great - in ALL respects. When you called the first choice on the phone tree was to press 1 if you were a current patient. That told me they really cared about patients.
Since Amazon has taken over they have changed - and not for the better. the medical care is still primo. With only a few exceptions we have gotten first class medical care. But the rest...
I had to call this morning with a simple question. I got lost in the phone tree. there were choices to talk about prime membership, if you had membership thru your employer, if you wanted 'pay per visit'. I got so frustrated I just pushed whatever button and they then had to transfer me. This tells me that they are now more about marketing than patient care.
Many others have complained about billing. Ditto. A bunch of years ago I had a billing issue when my insurance status changed. They gave me the number of someone in the billing department and we worked it out. Last year, when I went for a visit, they told me I had a balance. It sounded high. They said they would have someone from billing call me. I'm still waiting.
If you have the patience and energy to deal with the peripheral BS, One Med is still great medical care. If you can't deal then find another care provider.
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars, I would. I signed up - paid the $99 fee which frankly, you can't not do because by the time you get billed by your insurance for a service, it's a month later so you can't cancel in time to see how much they screw you. I did a 6 minute video call to get a prescription refilled which worked fine. My insurance information is loaded to the site and three weeks later, I got a bill for $412 for that 6 minute call. How is this a benefit? They don't tell you anywhere about what these video calls will cost which I thought were included in the annual fee. My insurance is covering $35 of that amount and I am LIVID! I should have known Amazon is only there to make money, not to help anyone. It's a complete SHAM.
WARNING! NOTHING CARING ABOUT THIS "PATIENT SERVICE"
If I could give Amazon Medical Care Telehealth/Pay-per-visit "practitioner?" staff and the customer service supervisors a ZERO, I would.
I should have looked at reviews before trying this Prime Member service. Now I'll just add to the low ratings in an effort to warn others.
I had received an email about the service months ago and had held onto it thinking I'd give it a try since it seemed to be a convenient and affordable alternative vs seeing my primary (an hour away) when I get a typical seasonal sinus infection (a listed common condition they treat).
So, I got a sinus infection recently and paid the $39 to give them a try.
3 Days after getting delayed (often beyond the two-hour allotment) and automated (not personal) responses, I was denied care and I had to resort to seeing my primary care physician after all to get the care I needed - an antibiotic.
Amazon staff "practitioners?" are not skilled enough to know the differences in symptoms between an infection and a virus. Yellow mucus should be enough said to know we are dealing with an infection but there were plenty of other indicators I could list out that they ignored.
I sent Amazon One Medical screenshots of the diagnosis and care notes from my primary care provider and asked Amazon One Medical for my money back since they did not provide me a service or care, they also misdiagnosed me and significantly delayed my care. Then they denied my getting my money back too!!!!
BE WARNED! DO NOT TRY THIS SERVICE! I regret it completely. The experience felt like a total scam. Zero Patient or Customer Care.
Absolutely outrageous
Absolutely outrageous billing practices. I had a 20-minute virtual consultation with One Medical where no diagnosis or meaningful treatment was even provided — and I was slapped with a bill of nearly $410 out of pocket. For context, I’ve had full urgent care visits (in-person, with exams and bloodwork included) that cost far less than this.
This is blatant price gouging. Charging the equivalent of an in-office visit for a short video call, while providing zero actionable medical help, is unacceptable. It feels exploitative and predatory.
If you value honesty and fairness in healthcare, avoid One Medical. I regret ever using their service.
Despite a local outbreak among school…
Despite a local outbreak among school children here, adult teachers cannot get a COVID vaccine, even though One Medical claims they provide it. Not only don't they have it, they don't know when they are going to get it.
Avoid!
This seems like such a scam, I'm angry at myself for signing up. But, neither my doctor nor my son's does telehealth and sometimes you need a doctor but can't muster up the energy to go so I figured why not. Well let me tell you for 99% of the things I asked for either of us they referred us to the PCP. What a joke. Once I sent a message about getting a prescription for Wegovy but they said "oh, you will have to select a 'doctor' and have a virtual visit". Oh and of course those visits are 'extra'. So I pick someone half my state away (Yuridia Serna) and she calls me. The whole visit was a joke because of course she had to do a whole health assessment. She started asking me for dates of my last pap, colonoscopy, etc then says next you'll have to go get blood work. I've already learned a lot and know you do not need blood work for Wegovy. So anyway eventually I hang up. Literally never sent her anything of course and never spent even more $$ on blood work that had already been done by my PCP. I just went back to him and canceled this. Forget this place. They harassed me for months to pay $20 copay which I felt wasn't necessary as she refused to write the script without me paying more $. STAY AWAY. I paid the bloodsuckers to avoid them dinging my credit but I thought about it a minute lol
False advertising
False advertising. It’s clearly states that they treat my condition and prescribe medication either via messaging or virtual care. When subscribed and put in a request this is the answer I received. Their answer is completely opposite than what they advertise. Their website clearly states they manage chronic conditions and prescription refills. I’m glad I did the free trial. This service is completely useless. Why tell people you treat when you actually don’t. Waste of my time.
My name is Hanna, and I’m a physician assistant. Thanks for reaching out, and I’m happy to share information about next steps. I’ve also included general information about the virtual services that are included with your membership for ongoing support of your health and well-being.
YOUR PRESCRIPTION REQUEST(S)
On-demand care options, like our Discuss Common Conditions (Treat Me Now) and urgent video chat features, are great for short-term medications and medications that can be safely managed without close monitoring. Because …….. is used to treat a long-term health condition, I recommend contacting the provider who usually prescribes your medication for a refill, even if you’ve been taking the medication for a long time. If you don’t currently have a primary care provider, please let me know and I’d be happy to provide resources to help you locate a provider in your area.
If you’re unable to reach your usual provider and would like us to consider sending a one-time, short-term prescription to last until you’re able to follow up with them, please answer the following questions for each requested medication:
1. Please list the medication name, dose, and full instructions as printed on your prescription label and attach a photo of the label, if possible.
2. What is the reason you were originally prescribed this medication?
3. When did you start taking this medication?
4. Who usually prescribes this medication for you (name and specialty), and when was your last visit with this provider?
5. Could you tell me more about why you’re requesting a prescription today (e.g., unable to reach your usual provider, looking for a new provider)?
6. Have you ever experienced any side effects? If so, please describe.
7. When did you have your ……. last checked? Please attach a copy of your most recent results, if available.
8. Please list any chronic or ongoing medical conditions you’ve been diagnosed with.
Best,
Hanna
To Whom It May Concern at One Medical,
To Whom It May Concern at One Medical,
I’m not sure it’s possible to feel more dismissed, more gaslit, or more infuriated by a healthcare provider than I have been by One Medical.
Let me be blunt: I waited nearly two years for One Medical to have an actual doctor available in-office. My condition is complex. I respect physician assistants and nurse practitioners—but in my case, I needed a doctor. And for two years, One Medical failed to provide one.
Fast forward to now: I attempted to refill a common antibiotic for diverticulitis, a condition I’ve been diagnosed with and treated for since 2022. One Medical told me they had no record of my diagnosis. None. Not the specialist referral. Not the tests. Not the prescriptions. Not the consults. Nothing.
This is beyond absurd. I saw a One Medical doctor five weeks ago who specifically prescribed medication for my diverticulitis. We had a full consult about my history with it. Yet when I called to renew that prescription, I was told—again—that there was no record of my condition, my medication, or any reason to refill it.
From August 25th to August 30th, I spent hours trying to get through to patient relations. Every call ended the same way: denial, deflection, and a suggestion to “just book another appointment.” That might work for someone in perfect health. But for me, dragging myself into an office just to refill a prescription I’ve already been given is not just inconvenient—it’s cruel.
And the worst part? I was treated like a nuisance. Every customer service rep, every clinical nurse I spoke to acted like I was irrational for asking them to do their job: to look at my records, to acknowledge my diagnosis, and to refill a medication that’s clearly documented across my specialist network—from pulmonology to cardiology. Everyone knows I have diverticulitis. Everyone except One Medical.
So here I am, stranded. The specialist who originally diagnosed me is no longer in business. And One Medical, the company that absorbed that practice, has erased my history and left me without care.
If you’re looking for a provider that will ignore your records, deny your diagnosis, and treat you like a burden—One Medical is the place. If you value your health, your time, and your dignity, stay far away.
I hope someone at One Medical actually reads this and contacts me. But based on your track record, I won’t hold my breath.
You’ve made my medical life hell.
Sincerely,
Edwin H. Balder
Don't go there
I was looking for a new PCP when mine retired. The closest One Medical PCP was a 2-hr drive away, but I was hopeful that she would be a good fit. I got there early -- because according to One Medical appointments start on time -- and had to wait about 15 mins. When I did see the doctor, she rushed through my intake. I have a complicated medical history and expected the first visit to be comprehensive so I could receive the best INDIVIDUAL care. When I asked about continuing a medication regime I have been on for 25 years with great success, rather than saying she would not prescribe these medications, she hid behind fuzzy language, saying things like she "wouldn't be comfortable" prescribing these meds. No explanation for why. I have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, have extensively researched my medications, and probably know more about their effects and risks than she does. After 2 weeks of going back and forth over this issue, she persisted with the fuzzy language, and I have given up. She had no basis for refusing to prescribe what I've been on for 25 years, no explanation as to what would occur should I suddenly go off this medication. In short, I felt that her biases were paramount in her mind, over-riding what would be the best medical care for me. Had she been definite that she would not prescribe what I wanted at that first visit, it would have saved both of us some time and I could have started looking for a new PCP again. I won't be renewing my One Medical membership.
I couldn’t get ahold of anyone
I couldn’t get ahold of anyone. I tried the emergency call and waited 45 mins before giving up and it’s been 15 hours since I did a “treat me now” request and no reply. It’s supposed to take 25 mins for the call and 4-6 hours for treat me now. This app sucks, what a waste of time.
Used to be a great experience; now just a bureaucracy
Used to be a great experience. Great staff and system, but since Amazon bought it, we are left with nothing but a huge bureaucracy. This is unfair to the great doctors and staff who make up the One Medical team. Phone numbers for the various locations are no longer available leaving one at the mercy of an 888 number stuck endlessly on hold. It’s like calling the IRS or the Department of Motor Vehicles. Hint: the membership lady told me this, so I’m telling all of you: if you are trying to reach a flesh and blood human being with a question, when you enter the voicemail hell afforded you as soon as you dial the 888 number, press option 2. Good luck to all of you.
Constant issues with billing & subpar medical care
We have been with One Medical for many years and used to be happy with the service, but since the practice got bought by Amazon it's been awful.
Providers lack thoroughness.
Billing has been a nightmare. Every single bill we received in the last two years was wrong and I spent hours on the phone.
We are switching and are looking forward to better care in the future.
Absolutely awful
Absolutely awful. They bought my doctor's practice so I gave them a try, despite annual fee, because I like my doctor. I broke both wrists and called for an appt. They offered me one more than a week out!! After extended discussion they relented and made me one for 10am. When I got there at 9:55, they said I was late -- appt was made for 9 am. Phones are answered in a different time zone. Remote staff not very bright. Amazon doesn't know how to run a medical practice.
just a waste of time AND money when i was having…
just a waste of time when i was having heart palpitations, they put me through so much to give them all my records and pics of my prescription bottles and still wont help me with a refill.
they had me prepay the $29 fee and took my money for nothing!!!!
One Medical is Terrible
I really wanted to like One Medical, but my recent experience was incredibly disappointing. I reached out expecting help within the 4–6 hour window they promise instead, it took over 8 hours to get any assistance. By the time someone finally responded, I could have (and should have) just gone to urgent care.
When you're not feeling well, waiting all day just isn’t acceptable especially when the whole point of a service like this is supposed to be convenience and timely care. Unfortunately, One Medical fell short when I needed it most.
This enterprise is a major scam
This enterprise is a major scam , I’m working for University of Miami , they advertise best care and medical services, went with my son for a regular visit paid the copayments and they bill me for 105 dollars with full insurance and cover by University of Miami . Major scam .
Do not try One Medical!
Wow! Do not go here!!!!! They ruined my blood samples and urine samples and I had to wait a week to hear it was destroyed and was still billed for it! Then told I had to retest!!!! Nope! Going to a regular doctor is best, don’t go to these people that can’t even get you results when you need it! After following up since Monday is when I was told about the destruction of my labs. Also they don’t allow results to be posted to your portal without review from a doctor which is illegal. They are supposed to be available to us as soon as they are to the doctor!
HORRIBLE company
I don't know how they can still be in business. They charge and annual fee, and it cost my daughter $310 for a 10 min call/appointment, and they won't even give her another refill unless she makes another appointment. It was supposed to be a $49 visit. How can this be legal?
