Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the website, primarily due to unexpected IP bans that prevented them from accessing the service. Users reported being banned without clear reasons, often after years of consistent use, which led to significant frustration and disruption, especially for those who relied on the site for daily alarms. Some people were dissatisfied with the user experience, citing issues with the site randomly stopping or displaying error messages. However, a number of customers expressed strong affection for the site, appreciating its simplicity, reliability, and helpful features like the large countdown display and white noise options, which they found beneficial for productivity and waking up.

Glad to see that I can use onlineclock.net again despite my isp being google. Site looks completely different now too. Did ownership change or have a change of heart?

review removed

I checked back in on this site to see if I can use it (i.e if my isp isn't banned) and found that my review was removed (i wanted to check on status of the site so maybe people not saying stuff about "ban" or "ip" would tell me that its just a "me problem").
reply from the site owner
"Wait.
Let me get this straight.
You've never accessed our site in your entire lifetime, but are still leaving a negative review?
Not only that: you were so affected by the experience that you were motivated to create a Trustpilot account, and post your very first review?
You're fake, and part of a negative campaign against my site.
Not only that, but your name is "Hexagon"?". This site is still unusable/inaccessible (Error 1005). I would think that an error page isnt really accessing a site but apparently that isn't true.

also... why the comment about my username? It was unnecessary.
I use Microsoft edge and this site is the top search for "timer". I looked at reviews when I was trying to figure out why I was banned and decided to leave a review... because I couldn't use the site.

ISP banned :(

I unfortunately cannot give this website 5 stars. Though i understand this is a project essentially manned by one person, when changing ISPs somewhat recently I found I was banned from the website. It was a huge bummer for me. As a college student now, I started using this site back in middle school to wake up for classes. It truly was my favorite site of its kind, but as Verizon is easily the best ISP in my area in all ways except for this one, it seems I'll have to find other sites.

I check back every so often to see if the site's creator has found a solution to the spam issue, and hope to be able to use it again one day. I hope things work out somehow! I miss using it!

This site really deserves 5 stars but I…

This site really deserves 5 stars but I gave 4 because I'm trying to get the attention of the developer. Ive used this as my go to alarm clock for many years but for a while now, ive been banned for an unknown reason. To be clear, I like the site, i'm a real person and id like to be unbanned please? Also, im a cybersecurity major so i get it, but can we talk? Let me know if this can be discussed. Thank you

I got blocked and I'm not complaining

I got blocked and I'm not complaining. For the first time I can recall, I just tried going to google.com and it also thought I might be a bot. So, props to you for defending what you have. I've been using your site for...man I wanna say 18-20 years? I was a teen. All of these people complaining need to get a life. It's a free website with one of the most reliable alarms that actually helps me wake up. Wife hates it, but she doesn't have to get up to work so meh. I will say though, your memes are getting more and more unhinged lol I've actually been a bit shocked some mornings and just had to take a moment, alarm still blaring, to go "wtf"? Keep doing you, don't let the haters get to you.

I am quite smitten...

I LOVE THIS SITE. As an avid procastinator the big red led lighted countdown really helps me get a sense of the time. And the rewarding unhinged memes and jokes? ...absolute perfection. I dislike the modern day apps and sites because they are far too overcomplicated and "aesthetic"--which just makes it too calming for forcing out procastination. If this site were to leave I would be more than sad.

I'll play devil's advocate here...

I won't leave 1 stars because as someone who maintains cloud/web services for a living, I highly doubt an individual (or even a few individuals) has the finances to retain an effective DDoS prevention solution, especially for a project of this small proportion.

Prices are really insane; for one guy trying to make accessible a utility for others while having ad revenue pay for itself, such measures are not feasible. So, they went the other route and did the ASN block. And took out one of the largest ISPs in the USA from accessing it.

If what the author claims is true, this is a shame on Verizon's end for allowing cybercrime to take place with their infrastructure.

Wow, I can't thank you enough for this review, because I believe it's the first time someone has accurately explained what's going on here.

For my part: I acknowledge I've made mistakes, regarding blocking too many ASNs, resulting in legitimate traffic being blocked. And I will work to fix this, even though the rise of residential proxies makes it very difficult.

The question is: will this be sufficient for the site to sustain itself? I have not made a profit for several years now, and have been financing the site out of my own pocket.

I would rather take the site offline than degrade it by stuffing it full of ads.

Thanks again for your helpful feedback!

An IP ban for freaking VERIZON?

After a good 15 years of using the site I suddenly find myself banned and see that the owner is baselessly calling anyone who complains a fake account. Newflash: if people are registering accounts just to complain about your product, it doesn't mean they're fake, it means you really screwed up. I will miss the site, but it's not worth the hassle or the attitude.

Thank you for the review.

It never ceases to amaze me that people never think about what the reasons for blocking IPs on our side could be, i.e. massive bot attacks.

We are just trying to keep our site online.

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Just find an alternative. Read the responses if you want to know why.

Having used this site since 2011, I recently have found myself blocked. I'm not an internet expert. I live in a rural area, with one ISP available as our choice. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do. I've read this owner's previous responses - and, the tone of them says everything you need to know. Unfortunately. not everyone can be at the level this particular owner expects us to be. I've found an alternative for what I need, without the technical issues - and, even better, without the condescending attitude given by this owner. I already know how the response will be to this review, as well - again, unsurprising, given how things are with this site now. What a shame.

I'll edit this further. The reason I'm giving a 1-star is the attitude of the owner. This is not how an owner should present himself to people who are actually expressing genuine concerns and frustration. The developer actually replied with some humility toward a review that empathized with the situation; that said, maybe the owner should think about attacking every negative review, some times ad hominem, and maybe explain what you're doing to make things right.

Kindness. It goes far. It'll get you better reviews for better service.

Food for thought.

Thanks for adding new thoughts to your original post.

I admit that I'm far from perfect in my responses to these reviews, and to an extent this has damaged me even further. (I am pretty much a tech geek with zero people skills.)

I'm making no promises in your particular case, but I am going to reevaluate and test unblocking some of the larger ISPs in the U.S.

Site blanket banned entire ISPs, not just users

ETA: Now why would I dox myself? All I can say is that my ISP is a normal, commercial ISP that has a monopoly, claims to serve 400 thousand people, and owns 600 thousand+ IPv4 addresses alone.

Edit: Should have figured the site owner's reply would be unreasonable. Making your website unusable for 680 thousand people is exactly what will kill the website. (and this number is definitely higher because I know more than one ASN is blocked). Not some AI, or some bogyman they've invented about people trying to tank their SEO. No, this is just people like me telling anyone who reads this to not get used to having access to this site, because even if you do nothing personally 'wrong' (which wrong here is even debatable), you are just a casualty they care nothing about. It's not like a lot of us can just get another ISP either, nor should we have to, to use a site whose function is replaced by a mobile device.
That being said, I highly recommend anyone who prefers having a large clock display on their laptop to use onlinealarmkur, it is a decent replacement.

[original below]
I have no idea what the owner of the site has decided to install as some sort of 'spam' protection, but it has marked not just my IP address, but my entire ISP as blocked (as in it is an ASN ban, not an IP ban). Something is not working as intended on either the site or cloudflare's end. I have used the site for years, but guess I won't be any more. No I'm not using a vpn or other proxy. The fact that so many people in the last few days have reported this, and the owner only seems to blame the users or accuse them of basically DDOSing the site.. yeah no.

Thank you very much for leaving your review.

I hope your thirst for revenge has now been purged and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Your anger is misdirected.

It should be aimed at your "ISP" (or, more likely, Hoster, VPN or Proxy company masquerading as "ISP").

Once an ISP gets greedy and begins using a high percentage of its IP addresses for VPNs, Proxies, VPS, Hosting, etc., it then becomes something other than a normal ISP for home users, and I certainly have enough gumption to block it.

If more webmasters would do the same, the Internet would become a more beautiful place.

It should not be incumbent upon me to spend hours of my day playing "whack-a-mole", wading through the BS of your ISP, trying to determine which percentage of an IP range (or even ASN) is "good" versus "bad".

This is especially true, since your ISP is likely making such a determination difficult on purpose.

Edit :
For the sake of transparency:

Why don't you go ahead and reveal exactly which ASN we are talking about?

Owner is a jerk

I was IP banned without cause from this site. I had used this site for years. I don't like looking for the little clock on my computer monitor. So I'd keep this open on a 2nd monitor.

I attempted to contact the owner about the ban. He asked for my IP address along with a screenshot of the ban. Provided both.

He says that my IP is being used as a callback proxy. Linked to a site that required logging in.

He also says that it's been marked by multiple sites as spam. Links a site showing me with 1 report with a 0% confidence of abuse

Then says F-You for wasting my time...

Find another clock/alarm site. Don't give this guy any traffic.

I took time out of my day to investigate why this person is blocked.

What I discovered on the site spur.us is that his IP is being used as a "callback proxy" or "residential proxy".

In addition, multiple services have marked his IP address as being a source of spam. And the traffic his IP address had been sending my website was spam.

Still, when confronted with the facts, this individual is convinced that I am the bad guy here.

If anyone is using an IP address being used as a proxy, that has also been marked as spam, they will be blocked.

If anyone sends spam traffic to my website, they will be blocked.

This is simply self defense, and is a reasonable course of action on my part.

If you don't agree with this, then please send your spam traffic somewhere else.

I'm blocked? - Error 1008 Access denied

I've used onlineclock.net for years. When trying to visit today, I received the following message:

Error 1008 Access denied. The owner of this website (stopwatch.onlineclock.net) has banned your IP address.

I'm just an average user and have never used this site (or any other for that matter) maliciously. I'm seeing other people have hit the same issue as reported here on Trustpilot and Reddit. I'm guessing the owner has some misconfiguration or overly-strict settings enabled on Cloudflare because I wholly believe there's no reason my IP should've been banned.

Also, seeing how the owner has replied to other reviewers here reporting the same issue, I'll be deleting my longstanding bookmark and finding an alternative.

Hello David,

I'm sorry that you're blocked and normally I would ask you to send me the IP address you're using so that I can investigate.

But the tone of your review instead leaves me glad that you're gone.

People leaving reviews here are all like: I used to really like this site and use it all the time, but suddenly I can't access it anymore so...this site SUCKS!"

And it's very revealing that almost all of these reviews come from users who have never reviewed anything else on Trustpilot. Hmmmm

Reddit is overrun with SEO spam and has, at least in the past, been used by competitors to damage the reputation of my site.

But I really don't care about any of these things anymore. In the big picture, my site isn't all that important.

What is important is that people learn to use the Internet with discernment.

Not everything you read on the Internet is true. And it's kind of ridiculous that this needs to be said.

Simple, Effective, Easy on the Eyes

So I really love using this site for all my different alarms and timers, it's just a personal preference since 2012 or so. 2~ish years ago the site randomly stopped working for me, 3 months went by and it was full function again and held the course once more until a couple nights ago again with a Error 1005, was wondering if I'm doing something wrong causing my 2 breaks in use from the site. (Roughly 98.1% reliable for me which is great)

Good for what it was.

Tldr; Site is great, but bans randomly.

The site is pretty good and simple for what it is. Just an online alarm, and it's free. Had used it for around 3 years to wake up for work. If I had reviewed it then, I'd give a 5 because it was easy, free, did what I needed, and on occasion there's a goofy meme.

The other day I go to use it again, and I get a webpage informing me the owner has banned my IP. It just seems very goofy, as if I'm suspected of using an alarm clock for malicious purposes lol. I've never really been banned on anything before, and after googling "onlineclock ban" to see if this is normal, this site was the second result.

Reading a few other comments, it seems this is common. However, it's a free service and I'd probably still recommend it.

Hey, thanks a lot for the honest review.

The IP bans are not "random" at all. There's a lot happening behind the scenes that people aren't aware of.

Running a website today is a constant battle against bots and spam, and the rise of "residential proxies" make this even more difficult.

Every time I try to communicate MY side of the subject of IP bans, it just results in even more backlash, so whatever...

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

DO NOT USE, you can get seemingly randomly IP banned without warning and owner clearly has no interest in fixing the issue.

Here to add another IP banning issue to the pile...

I tried this website for the first time last night because my phone broke and I needed something as an alarm clock. (I was too tired at the time to think of the built in app on win11, suppose I'll be using that in the future.)

I woke up in the morning, 2 hours later than I would have liked, to a message saying that I was IP banned. This, of course, confused me. I didn't have any outside programs or websites running at all and I was just sleeping with the website and it's rain sounds on.

I'm lucky this happened on a day I had off from work, because this website would have made me late. I went onto this site looking to see if anyone else had the same issue. If this was some freak occurrence or misunderstanding I would have been inclined to leave 2 or 3 stars instead, because I did like the site's UI and options for white noise. But reading the other reviews here and seeing the owner's "F*** you I'm not sorry" attitude towards this whole issue dropped it to one. I understand that a lot of internet traffic is bots and bad actors, sure. But you seem to be banning a lot of people who don't fall into either category for no reason the user is aware of. People rely on things like this to wake them up for time sensitive things, like work or school. I got lucky, but how many people do you think were actually made late, again, by no apparent fault of their own, because your website decided to go and ban their IP? Please do better.

People reading reviews here are only hearing one side of the story.

They have no idea if the people posting these are using scuzzy proxies or VPNs often used by hackers and spammers.

People reading these reviews have no idea if they are possibly part of a coordinated "negative SEO" or "reputation smearing" campaign being run by one of our competitors.

I am not playing your games, because I've been doing this for twenty years, and I walk in truth.

Let the chips fall as they may...

How believable is it, when EVERY review received within the last couple of years is ALWAYS a one star review? And when the big brands boost up their star ratings by offering their customers incentives for reviews?

This system is a joke.

Literally the UserBenchmarks of online alarm clocks

Saved one of the morning memes after waking up and found out I had been banned when I got back home from work later that day. Dunno if its the reason, but its the only thing I have done differently in using the alarm clock. Searched this issue up and realized I am not the only person who has been arbitrarily banned. Hope this guy DOES get drowned out by AI, cause his unnecessary attitude definitely makes it easier to move on from his clock. Bunch of unnecessary BS for something so simple and easily replaceable. Owner is actively looking for reasons to ban legitimate users. Doesn't help that a majority of people who use his site do one of the things he bans for like automatic alternating IPs, VPNs, or having more than one alarm clock open so they don't sleep thru the first one. This guy is a paranoid cook. Look at his reply, he can't even address the actual faults in his website or decision making. Your competition doesn't even need to go on "advertising campaigns", you do it for them. Furthermore, he ain't cooking with this one chat.

Enjoy the upcoming silence.

Regarding transferring the domain to you: now you're getting to the real point here. In our email discussion, in which I conveyed to you the reason why your static IP address got banned (rate limiting), you also offered to work for me to "fix" my Cloudflare setup.

Can you look at yourself in the mirror, after taking a private email discussion with someone who was spilling his guts out to you about the current state of the Internet and the plague of Bots which rule it, and then twist that discussion around, publishing parts of it here in public?

It is never random.

99% of normal home Internet users have a Dynamic IP address, so if their IP address is banned, their ISP will automatically give them a different IP address in about 24 hours anyway.

So, if you're running some kind of server, VPN, proxy, VPS or virtual host, we don't want you accessing our site.

In short, I don't recommend you either, buddy !
