A fantastic library with friendly staff
This really is an excellent library, and I'm do glad it's been continuing to receive enough funding to maintain such an incredible structure of events and local reading support.
They have an area about Minecraft where people can sign up for an hour long session. There's a Lego area with monthly challenges where you can have your creation proudly displayed in a case. There are many books, including YA, graphic novels, and manga, as well as plenty of children's and adult books.
There's some kind of sensory activity room set up on the library, for special needs folk to go and interact with sensations.
They've got a nice costume rain with costume party outfits folk can borrow to use.
There's a whole bunch of computers, for people to access the internet, or WiFi available for people to use their own gadgets.
There's a wee magazine stand, with a coffee station nearby and lots of comfy seating with tables, up front.
They run a roaming book bus service around the mainland and islands, Booky Mcbookface really gets around!
The staff are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and the Orkney Library is overall a welcoming and cosy community space.
