God help the non-computer literate community!

God help the non-computer literate community. Why?

Three times I tried to book online; each time unsuccessfully because “the computer said No”. Its reason was that there was no availability on the day I wanted to depart???

But what is unforgivable is that when I tried to book over the phone I was told that was not possible!! Really?

Is this hotel ageist?

Substandard - avoid unless you just want a quick drink for setting

The setting for the hotel was lovely, however there were people pulled up right outside blasting music out of their camper van so not as peaceful as hoped, the hotel can't do anything about this of course but it was a shame. I am writing this review and don't normally but felt I had to warn others about the awful reception we received, very dismissive staff kept walking past us as we were obviously waiting to check in for our booking. Eventually I had to ask someone directly they treated this like it was a real imposition. Then asked if we could have one of the three free tables in the window with the sea view (as that is what is advertised on their site), rolled eyes, sighed, said I'll have to clean it, we normally put people in the back when it's busy. With some reluctance we were seated, no offer of a highchair for our toddler, had to ask for one/get one ourselves. The food was quite frankly repulsive, very expensive, swimming in grease and substandard toppings. I am only giving two stars because one waitress was nice to us (which stood out) and the setting looks nice. The bathrooms were wet and overflowing with paper towels. All in all a very bad experience at a high price that tarnished our holiday greatly.

This hotel is NOT dog friendly

This hotel is listed as dog friendly. It isn't. They are allowed in One small dining area. Also the tiny bar in which there are only 2 tables. If you have a dog and want a drink you either have to stand up or go outside. No lounge to sit in, nowhere else to relax. No heated area to sit down if you have a dog. Our room had a window that wouldn't close, no water glasses and a drawer that wouldn't open. Certainly don't recommend this place!

Good and the bad

Mix review about the hotel as at time of staying as a guest I had a broken leg so I chanced my luck the day before to see if I could upgrade from a pod to the actual hotel due to my mobility issues. I was told all rooms was booked but the pod was probably best option due to it being on ground floor and no lift access to get up the stairs in the hotel! The pods furniture was a a pull out sofa bed which lady on the phone reassured me she would leave a note for house keeping to pull the bed out ready for me due to risk of falling and causing further damage to my leg, which I was clearly happy with! When I got to my pod my bed hadn’t been pulled out as was told too me, so I had to go through the struggle of pulling the bed out myself whilst in a full leg cast and on crutches! Furthermore when I used the shower facility there was no rail to assist with people with mobility issues wishing to use the shower facilities in the room which again put me at risk of falling. Having said the negatives the positives of my experience was the venue of the wedding was really well presented and looked amazing, and the breakfast the next morning was really nice! It was unfortunate my experience of the hotel was lip service and any person with mobility issues would be at serious risk should they stay at this hotel.

Lovely personal touch

This was my daughter’s second stay here. This time was to celebrate her birthday.
She and her boyfriend love this hotel as the setting is stunning with amazing views.
They always eat in the hotel restaurant as they have a great menu with high quality food.
As a mum I wanted to make a fuss of my daughter on her birthday, so I rang to ask if the staff could surprise her with a bottle of Prosecco before dinner and the chocolate dessert for after they’d eaten.
All the staff were so friendly and attentive, but I have to mention Jordan who organised this for me (even though he hadn’t had this requested before) and put his heart and soul into making everything perfect for my daughter. He even stopped off to buy candles for the dessert on his way to work.
I hope to get the chance to stay here myself one day as I know it comes highly recommended by my daughter.

Avoid coming here for a wedding

Avoid coming here if your planning on getting married ! Less than 6 months to the big day get no information on final price or anything and just ignore you untill you withdraw from getting married there then they finally respond. Can see why many people told us to avoid here and why there is such a high staff turn over

Wow what a phenomenal place

Was here 1st October 2023 for my sister's and brother in laws wedding.. What an amazing venue.. The place where we got into our dresses were lovely people working there, same with ppl guiding us into the part where the wedding ceremony took place to making way down to the reception. By gosh the food was stunning and I'm a fussy eater, staff working the bar were lovely people too. The views are out of this world also

Don't order food

Don't order food, food is overpriced, very basic and not as described, hygiene rating is only 2 stars, I can't remember having such a poor meal, unless you are starving and every café is closed within 20 miles go somewhere else.

As a wedding photographer

As a wedding photographer, I have had the pleasure of capturing moments at the Oxwich Bay. This stunning location truly offers something for everyone, from families seeking a break, to couples looking for a romantic escape, to friends looking for a short getaway. The Oxwich Bay is a perfect destination for a staycation, as the picturesque beaches and extensive coastal path are right at your doorstep. This is a place where you can make memories that will last a lifetime, and I was honored to be a part of one such memory as I photographed a beautiful wedding at this venue. The setting is simply breathtaking and provides a stunning backdrop for any special event. Whether you're looking to spend time with loved ones or take in the breathtaking scenery, the Oxwich Bay is the perfect place to do so.
Kindest regards
The Kensington Photographer

Worst overpriced meal I’ve ever had

Worst overpriced meal I’ve ever had . Menu advertised panini with homemade coleslaw salad and hand cooked crisps. We were given no coleslaw or salad at all , cheap smashed up tortilla chips( 49p family bag Tesco ) instead of hand cooked crisps . The panini was a small roll with processed ham , a sliver of cheese , microwaved. £14 .
I emailed asking for an explanation for the dire and misrepresented food but received no reply . In justice this business should fail miserably , they obviously rely on their seaside position for wedding parties and just rip off everyone else .

A missed opportunity…

Having been visitors to Gower over many years we have often sat on the terrace of the Oxwich Bay Hotel and thought how nice it would be to actually stay there. Well, this week we finally did!
The hotel is set in an amazing position in a corner of the fabulous Oxwich Bay with far reaching views over the bay. It’s location cannot be faulted and is the reason why so many people want to get married there. When the sun shines there are few better spots.
As for the hotel, I have to agree with another resident who said it’s a missed opportunity.
The reception used to be front and centre and was the heartbeat of the hotel. It is now tucked away to one side and looks a bit like the entrance to a municipal swimming pool. The area where reception used to be is now a storage area for chairs and is (sometimes) hidden by a rather tatty curtain.
Our room was the aptly named Three Cliffs Room which is on the 2nd floor, (there is no lift), and has a panoramic picture window with the most fabulous view of the bay, including the iconic Three Cliffs.
The room is described as “luxury”; well at least the view is. The room is quite small and has a double bed, which was very comfortable, bedside cabinets, the tops of which came adrift if you knocked them, a double wardrobe and a sideboard. These items looked decidedly tired. There was also a small table, a chair and a two seater sofa. There was also a support pillar in the centre of the room which all gave the room a cluttered feel. The en suite bathroom was large but quite basic. A sink with mirror cupboard over, a bath with drench shower, which was very powerful, and a ladder radiator. There were, however, no hooks to hang anything on and the room could do with a bit of TLC.
On the whole I would describe the room as comfortable but, apart from the view, not luxury.
Breakfast was buffet style and was a bit hit and miss. If you got in while the food was fresh it was fine, if not it was dried up and there were few if any staff available to replenish it. One morning there were no croissants, no tea bags, no glasses for juice and no cereals. When a member of staff was asked about croissants and cereal he said there weren’t any.
We ate in the hotel bistro restaurant one evening and found the menu limited and service quite slow; 35 minutes between starter and main courses. The food was quite good though. A glass of Malbec turned into Shiraz as they had run out of Malbec. Oh and the bar prices were extortionate; £14.75 for a pint of bitter and a G&T! We found other premises on the peninsula with prices nowhere near this.
In general staff were friendly and helpful although you sort of got the impression you weren’t their main concern and it was disconcerting to overhear conversations complaining about their lot.
There was no lounge area to sit in with a drink after a meal, or rather there was but it’s also a thoroughfare between reception and the main part of the hotel and during our stay it was in darkness in the evenings and quite cold.
The hotel is graded 3 star and that’s about right but it promises, and could be, so much more.
But then, there is always that view!

Wedding Celebration

After a misunderstanding regarding a late accommodation reservation and then cancellation a few days later, I am pleased to be able to update my review of the Oxwich Bay Hotel, which is located by the sea, just a minute or so walk from the beach.
Firstly, the accommodation; my wife and I had one of the Luxury Sea View rooms in the main hotel, which has 12 rooms. The room was much smaller than I would expect for the price and the double bed felt small as we have a King Size bed at home and a normal double bed always feels small to us, so it might not be something another couple would necessarily notice. Meanwhile, my mother-in-law and daughter stayed in one of the static homes on site. There was a double bed in one bedroom, which was not bad, but the second room, which had two single beds was very cramped.
Moving to the food, the wedding breakfast was good; nicely prepared and presented; served hot, which is always a good sign when meals are being delivered to 90 or so people at a time; and breakfast the following morning was very tasty. We had the full English, from a hot breakfast menu with plenty of choice and it was very good; there was also a good array of fruit, cereals and juices.
We were guests at a wedding conducted at the hotel, followed by the reception. The organisation was excellent and the following morning, the bride's mother said how pleased she was. As a guest, the whole process from wedding ceremony to evening disco was very well organised.
What about the staff? All the staff, from the Reception and bar to the restaurant and room staff were wonderful. Always helpful and cheerful; exactly what any hotel guest wants. They could not be faulted.
Finally, if you are looking for quality accommodation, for a break, it is a bit pricey. I would expect a larger room and bigger bed for my money, but for a wedding, it is a nice venue, with excellent organisation, good food and cheerful staff and we would recommend the Oxwich Bay Hotel.
