Terrible company

Terrible company. I've been trying to change my car for a few weeks now and there is no option to change the car details online. I have to ring them every time for a quote and wait times are a minimum of ½ an hour and at times I have given up after 2 hours trying to get through. I have missed out on several cars due to People's Choice living in a past century. We are in 2021 now and a few taps on a phone should be all it takes to change a car on an insurance policy. Won't be using them again.

Nightmare to get through on phone.

What a nightmare to try and stop your policy renewing. Stuck on the phone ‘we are very busy at moment to answer your call’ eventually after ten mins spoke to a lady. She was not helpful at all, I needed to stop my 76 year dads policy from being automatically renewed and she kept on saying she needed to speak to my dad, I told her he can’t hear on the phone and that’s why I organised his policy. All I wanted to do was to stop it from automatically renewing. So unhelpful, I’ve spoke to lots of insurance companies in the past and never had any trouble in not taking up the renewal notice from them, never ever will I use people’s choice/Hastings ever again.

Avoid. Auto-renewal is a nightmare to cancel.

Avoid. Nigh impossible to get them to accept attempt not to auto-renew. Won't accept it via website, nor via their online 'chat'. Long telephone wait, then passed around until they get you to the 'renewals' staff who then, when realising you're not going to renew with them, put you 'on hold' for no good reason just to p you off. I eventually hung up without getting their commitment to not auto-renew. Never using again.

Helpful staff and full refund within 3 weeks

I insured my car with People's Choice and of course, not long after, lockdown happens. So it's been sitting on the drive, SORN and unused for several months. 12 months later, the policy automatically renewed on the due date, but as we were only just starting to exit lockdown I still didn't need to drive it. The emails were sent to forewarn me, but it's not an email address I check on too often, so my admin error.

However, when I saw the premium go from my bank account, I realised what had happened and felt some dread at the fight I imagined ahead of me. I saw many negative reviews and expected the worst!

I am happy to tell you that, not only was my first point of contact - a lady called Christine - helpful, friendly, professional and efficient, but I received a full refund within 3 weeks.

The queue when waiting for my call to be answered was approx 5 minutes (I was expecting much longer...you know what these companies are like..?), although there was a lengthy legal-type-disclaimer automated message that seemed to go on forever (probably about another 3 minutes or so in reality). I was within the 14 day cooling-off period, so I was aware of my rights to cancel, but there wasn't even a hint of an issue on that phone call.

I received a confirmation email (I checked my emails this time!) of cancellation within a few hours, also stating that there would be no admin fee (I was kind of expecting a £10 or £20 charge that I would've contested) and received a cheque for the full amount today, some 3 weeks later. I felt it was fair and proper to write this review straight away upon receipt.

When I'm ready to re-insure my car, I will certainly give them a chance to quote. I hope this is helpful to others?

The Battle of Hastings all over again!!

Same sentiment as most of the most recent reviews. This company wants everything their own way. Its obvious they want a completely automated service and haven't the time to build customer relationships nor do they know how! They put up contact links that don't work; not even the live chat. You can't get through on the phone and they basically obstruct you from cancelling a renewal policy; then pressurise you to re-instate direct debits or they'll chase you for money owed - I'll be reporting them to their governing body. There's too much competition out there to bother with these amateurs so my advise is - don't!

So difficult to cancel inflated renewal..

Annual renewal was nearly 20% higher than price quoted through 2 major search sites. Once logged in to my account on-line there is the option to renew via a simple process however the only option to cancel the inflated renewal is to call their phone line. Currently 15minutes in and no response. Absolute disgraceful way of doing business, unsurprising for a subsidiary of the woeful Hastings Group.

Cheap service is what they offer and it’s absolutely what they give. Fuel prices are slightly cheaper too.
Failed to advise that they weren’t able to change both fuels but still demanded meter readings for both. So caused confusion when I started getting demands from the old company who’s DD I’d already cancelled.
After eventually finding the contact number in their woeful website, it took 3 attempts and listened to, “Thank you for holding one of our team will be with you shortly, we record our calls for training and monitoring purposes”, on an endless loop, for several minutes each time, before getting through to the right department. That call took 29 minutes. After 4 apologies for their atrocious c/m service, “Oh I can see we’re only doing your electricity, sorry you should’ve had an email. Do you want me to set up your gas now”?
No thanks, your company in not competent. I’m moving both fuels back to Bulb !

Don't chose this provider!

Don't chose this provider!
Awkward when it comes to cancelling. Add on extra charges your not expecting.
A nightmare to get in touch with on the phone. Kept on hold 45minutes before even speaking to someone. Tried for a week previous to this. Sat through all the automated messages to be told not currently answering calls due to volume which added a week of charges onto my fee! Awful company. If I had known Hastings was there parent company I'd have stayed well away because they're appalling too.

NOT People’s Choice

Dreadful. I just wanted to add myself as daughter to my dad’s car insurance policy. They wanted to charge him £200 for that when the initial renewal was £299.
Absolute Robbery. I will be reporting ‘Hastings Direct’ to the Financial Ombudsman. Shameful...

They may have good prices and I've been…

They may have good prices and I've been with them for 2 years, but at the time of claiming windscreen repair, don't expect anything.
First of all, they don't approve autoglass as an approved repairer anymore. EVERYONE uses autoglass. They have the largest repair network in the UK, do it straight at your home address, have the fastest availability, and are overall the best convenient solution. Autoglass , when I took this policy 2 years ago, was an approved repair agent. now not anymore.
Now you must use nationwide motorglass, and only them.
When I tried to contact them from the number that peoples choice gave me, the phone rang for 50 minutes with no answer. After 50 minutes, it transferred me automatically to the out of hours line, who "wasn't able to help me until 5pm" and hung up on me.
After numerous attempts on a number (that is not free by the way), I finally got through to someone, who I could barely hear he was so quiet (10 times quieter than the holding music at least).
After turning my phone's volume to the absolute maximum and struggling still to hear anything he was saying, he told me he didn't have any details for my vehicle, that he would have to contact "Hastings direct" (I'm not with them, I'm with people's choice), and that he might call me back within 24 hours to "see if they had an available slot".
What a horrible service this is, I will make 100% sure I renew my policy elsewhere next renewal ! A windscreen repair request should not be this complicated and stress inducing !
