Period Sash - new windows installed

I recently had new windows installed, and I couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. From start to finish, the team was professional, punctual, and highly skilled. They took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure all my questions were answered before getting started.

The installation itself was carried out with great care and attention to detail. The workers were not only efficient but also respectful of my home, keeping everything clean and tidy throughout the process. It was clear they took pride in their work, and the final result reflects that—my new windows look fantastic and have made a noticeable difference.

I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable service and excellent workmanship. Truly outstanding job by a great team.

Terrific service and an excellent…

Terrific service and an excellent product. Paul and his team were great, and did a neat job, being very flexible on the timing. Our house was built in 1887 and many of the sash boxes weren't exactly ' true' but Terry seems to have managed to get a great fit, so we look forward to a less draughty winter this year ( and lower heating bills)

Highly recommended

Highly recommended. These people are a breath of fresh air and extremely good at what they do. Terry repaired and draught-proofed 3 Edwardian sash windows in my home in Muswell Hill. He and Paul were punctual, affordable, courteous and very tidy. They went above and beyond to get the job right and dealt with extra complications cheerfully and within the original quote. Very happy customer.

Customer service on a different level!

Firstly, I make no apologies for the length of this review which I hope is found all encompassing especially when one is deciding who to spend potentially tens of thousands of pounds on double glazing.

Two years ago I had an exceptionally large installation project (35 timber sash windows and one very large casement) carried out by Period Sash Windows. (It will be apparent very soon why this has taken two years to review in Trustpilot.

This is a red-brick Edwardian building in the heart of a heavily policed and very regulated conservation area in Central North London, refurbishing timber single-glazed sashes to double -glazing. Nearly every resident (including us!) is a “busy-body” ensuring that the area remains the “museum” that it is.

In short, the project called for a 100% guarantee (no margin for error) that one could see no discernible difference when viewed from both the exterior and interior of the property.

Dealing with this company was the antithesis of the nightmares one has come to expect when dealing with double-glazing installers and to say that I am so pleased that all of the homework I did before accepting their quotation was worth it all!

We put the specification out to 5 different companies including very well-known names and I felt like a quantity surveyor trying to break down the wording and often “hidden” wording. The price variations were enormous and it has to be said that I was equally as concerned at getting a fair and reasonable price as I was to ensure that whichever company I dealt with fully understood the importance of this project not going wrong.

My experience of dealing with two of the better known “names“ felt more akin to buying a second-hand car insofar that they seemed more interested in getting us “hooked in” to leasing company loans where they would be earning extra commission. Neither of those two companies seemed to fully understand that we were not allowed by way of council planning regulations to use a PVC product even although it purportedly “looked like wood”.

When I first met Paul (the owner of Period Sash Windows) I felt that I was dealing with somebody that fully understood both the project and the area, although it has to be said that fortunately his business is based literally only 2/3 miles away and he had dealt with properties covered by conservation issues on many occasions. The first thing that Paul noticed was that in his opinion we did NOT have to go to the expense of changing the whole window frame as he made clear to us that the boxes on either side were made of hardwood and “were good for another 100 years!” He suggested that the only part of the installation that needed changing were the glass and frames themselves and this would save a fortune.

Upon going through all the estimates I quickly noticed that the only company that were prepared to manufacture the windows in hardwood (apparently hardwood is both stronger and lasts much longer than softwood) was Period Sash Windows. Another very important point that I had noticed that with some of the quotations, the glazing bars (separating the smaller pieces of glass) was simply to be “stuck on“ rather than to be an integral part of the window.

It was obvious that they were going to be amongst the highest of the quotations and I can only tell you the surprise that we had when we found that the estimate was literally just a few hundred pounds more expensive than the cheapest of the estimates who were using cheaper materials.

We paid the deposit and less than four weeks later the windows had been hand-made made and ready for installation.

Paul and his team have been meticulous about the work and even although I have the eyes of an art dealer, Paul had noticed the minutest of faults caused by the glass manufacturers and insisted on changing that window even although it had been installed. These guys are bigger perfectionists than us.

It has sincerely been a pleasure dealing with them and I cannot recommend them enough. In fact we have given them permission to bring potential clients to our property so they can gauge the quality for themselves!

However, now the reason for the two year delay. My wife was sitting in our living room and heard what can best be described as a very quite implosion (that didn't even make our puppy jump). She looked up and noted that a small window had literally shattered. No reason...no brick through it etc ..

I called Period Sash and in less than three hours their team had arrived at my home and measured up so a new sheet of glass can be manufactured and fitted within a few days. No fuss...no argument...and next week I'm having a meeting with all of the staff at my company to tell them how customer service should be!
