Unhappy with Railcard UK

I bought my disabled railcard yesterday morning and for some reason railcard uk took the payment of £20 from my bank account twice. I phoned railcard uk as soon as I noticed, as this was the last £20 I have. Railcard agreed the payment had been requested twice but said I would have to wait 5-7 working days for the money to be returned to my bank account. I phoned my bank and they said the transaction is still pending but they can't stop it, it has to be railcard uk. So why can't railcard just cancel the transaction and return my money! I'm disabled and need this money now.....

not working/ frail system

I encountered significant issues with the password reset link for my railcard.co.uk account. Despite multiple attempts, I never received the reset email. Imagine being unable to show your digital railcard to a ticket controller because you're locked out of your account! Over the past 48 hours, I've spoken with three different customer support representatives. While I can now access my digital railcard on my phone, I still can't log into my railcard.co.uk account.

Each customer service rep gave me conflicting and questionable advice, such as "wait for 30 minutes, and it will work." This appeared more like some strategy to end the call than genuine advice. Eventually, I received an account recovery email, but when I completed the form, it generated an error, claiming the link had expired—despite it being just five minutes old. Clearing the cache and cookies did not help.

The third representative suggested using the chat function on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for technical support, but I don't use any of those social media platforms. This has been a highly frustrating and time-wasting experience. If you're facing a similar issue, I recommend trying to sort out the digital card via the app and customer support over the phone, and then sending a complaint email through their contact page to resolve account access issues. I still am unable to access the account but I am hoping the latter will solve it - who knows! I feel sorry for the customer support team.

System (and people) failures

Teenage son is trying to move his railcard to new iPhone. Even though he's followed the process and spoken with support several times, it still won't work. After independent research, he found the card can only be on two phones (shame ticket sellers don't know this and threatened him with a penalty for not having his card on his phone even though he had the email confirming purchase). Even worse if he tries to reset his password, he doesn't receive the reset email and he has checked his spam folder. What is he to do?

Corrected my issue

UPDATE: Well, I have been proved wrong. I thought they weren't interested but Railcard have come back from the original unhelpful reply and corrected my issue with dates. Kudos to them.

Four stars because of the original (unhelpful) reply.

No railcard after 31

I used railcard before turning 31. I am truly disappointed that they don't have railcard after 31. For working woman who has to look after family, grocery, future savings, and at end spend money while travelling for work purposes. Kindly get some railcard after 31 too. Money is not being doubled at home or growing on tree.

Baited me into believing...

Baited me into believing I could actually get cashback on my purchase when in reality it was making me sign up for an extremely predatory company's data collection & extortion scheme. As a disabled person i find it absolutely abhorrent that this company endorses and supports the business practises and ethics of completesavings and would recommend anyone considering buying a railcard from these hoodlums to consider doing so elsewhere. Feeling absolutely disgusted.

Don't use Tesco Vouchers.

I attempted to buy a railcard with Tesco vouchers, but couldn't. Enquired why using their contact us form, but Railcard replied that they don't accept Yesco vouchers. I give up with them and another facet of broken Britain. Tesco's don't want to know either.

Absolute rubbish

Absolute rubbish. Ordered and paid for railcard online. All useful details proving I have a railcard have disappeared from the national rail ordering site. The app on my iphone just shows an error message so there are no details on the phone. I never received the text to put the railcard onto the phone so had to try another way. At the end of the purchase I have no proof anywhere that I have a railcard which I could use to travel. Spent too long trying to make a useless piece of software work. Could it be designed to be any worse if you really put your mind to it? I would be ashamed to be associated with designing and running software this terrible.

NO YOU DO NOT SAVE 1/3 OFF
I had a railcard that was due to expire on the 21 May. I logged on when it warned me about imminent expiry and renewed it on the 6th. How naive am I! Anyway despite following instructions I could not get it to accept my log in code and eventually decided to go to the station and get them to do it. Eventually they managed it. I now have a new railcard as from the 21 June that expires on the 6th May. I would expect the renewal to at least start from the end of lapsed card and now feel well and truly fleeced. Nearly 2 months lost, three weeks of which I consider theft. So much for 1/3

My railcard has completely frozen on…

My railcard has completely frozen on the first page so I can’t swipe to show my picture. I have phoned twice and it’s not a free phone number. The advised me to delete the app and reinstall it. I have tried deleting app and reinstalling and inputting so many codes but to no avail. I received an email from railcard to say it should be sorted in 10 days, needless to say I have heard nothing since and 10 days has passed. Shocking customer service. What is going on with the software?

Railcard still not arrived and rude staff in call centre

Purchased 3 year senior Railcard online on 29th May. Email on 30th May said it had been dispatched. After 5 working days I emailed their helpline. The email doesn't work. Today I phoned and they agreed that the card must be lost in the post so they said they would issue a new card and it would take 5-7 working days. Given that I'd paid £70 12 days ago I asked if they could send it by priority mail. They said no I'd have to pay for that. They said once it's in the post it's nothing to do with them. I reminded them of consumer law and they got very shirty. So let's see if this new card turns up. Meanwhile I'm without a Railcard. In future I will just buy annual card at a station. I see that my experience mirrors what many have said here.

Appalling problems with their software…

Appalling problems with their software which they simply dumped on existing customers. Customer support merely got off the line using an excuse so we had to go through the process 5 times to get half a solution. Anything connected to rail travel seems to go wrong.

Absolute rubbish

Absolute rubbish. Trying to renew my railcard via both app and website but just keeping getting a nonsense error message. It runs out on Saturday and I need to book tickets for an upcoming journey. I have tried to contact them but message says they will revert within TEN days. Railcard is a good deal until you have a query or an issue.

UPDATE 8/5/24. Tried logging into the website from a different device but it won’t accept my details. Tried the ‘forgot password’ route but they don’t send an email. It seems the only possibility is to call an 0345 number which is expensive. Looks like I will have to start again by buying a one year plastic card at a station. Absolutely disgusted with this website and app. I am not hopeful of getting any response to my email query.

UPDATE 9/5/24 - To my astonishment I got a response to my email query - of course blaming everything on my browser not their website or app! Advising me to do all the things I had automatically done before even contacting them. In the meantime, I found a way around this by buying a new railcard on Trip, where I usually by my train tickets anyway. I won't be using Railcard.co.uk again.

We ordered 2 senior rail cards

We ordered 2 senior rail cards, one arrived the other was 'lost in the post'. Railcard offered to reissue the card but refused to send priority mail. The delay meant that I lost the discount on a rail journey, though the cards were purchased a month in advance. They said not their fault the mail lost the card - well the rest of the world gets proof of postage so they can get a refund. Unhelpful and very poor service.

Veterans Rail card

The card was easy to purchase and i was able to add my then partner on. I purchased a 3 year card. Unfortunately after a few months my partner and I split up. There is no way, even by contacting the Rail card company, to remove my ex. Only when I renew in 2¾ years time!!! This is ridiculous with it all being online it should be simple to do this!

My Disabled Person Railcard

I’m deaf mother, had used my disabled Person Railcard with my reference numbers 08ZNJ1216264970, my expiry 8th December 2024 for the first time joined in December 2021 for three years I paid £54. In 2023 25th April, it had happened the inspector took it my DPRC railcard when my husband used mine I didn’t know everything about information about person must travel with me - I’m confused which my friend explained me what does mean. My friend had been once happened didn’t know first time, then inspector gave back because he’s married surname as same way my husband. In facts, DPRC didn’t give me leaflets when they post me a letter with my first new railcard also they didn’t give me for my customer numbers. I always used driving to travelling to London for many years because my family lived there. And I decided need my break, I decided joined DPRC to use travel by rail 2021. In anyway, inspector young lady asked my husband to show his ID when show his train ticket, inspector stamp mark on his ticket proof. Not even fraud because he’s my husband. Inspector was showed him the message by her mobile but my husband can’t see clearly which his eye infected with blurred. (He travelled to London for Eye Moorfield hospital on that day) My DPRC card Inspector didn’t give back to him! He did told but inspector didn’t gave him in writing note for where she going to give who and where after he shouted to stop her and asked her for question. Fail, it’s lack of communication the inspector did not aware of deaf sign language needed using BSL cause he’s deaf father too. Inspector went disappeared at St Pancras! He find difficult person to communicate with inspector. I’ve many times conversations to the Rail team by via email/ chat/ with my daughter (hearing) use phone and went to tickets office for search my railcard but nothing there, it’s not lost property - it was inspector took it! DPRC department should have it if inspector know must return to DPRC because my name and numbers on railcard with logo DPRC. I don’t understand why how come impossible they said nothing to be found. Odd! I was struggling to find it since through until now today 5th April 2024. I’m now unsuccessful that Rail Ombudsman been investigated through with Rail team. They said Rail give goodwill gesture only £20 vouchers I’m not accept it. I spending £164 with print Adults been went to travelled as not DPRC I don’t have one which the ticket office asked me if I have DPRC, I replied ‘No, because inspector took it’. I using Note app text show them. They should own me £55.95 which 1/3 off I’ll work out maths deduct by website I screenshots online train times and dates with prices as one Adult how much worth and other DPRC how much worth and free replacement new railcard included my train tickets I gave to Rail and Rail Ombudsman everything I proof to show them. But the Rail still not accept it to refused free replacement new railcard and refused pay me. I was fed up, so upset and frustrated. I can feel still fought, no give up because I’m still current railcard registered my name until expiry as above. I have my reasons why Rail should their responsibility to train inspectors learn about aware of DPRC with numbers on card must give back to deaf person or given in writing note within how to support communicate for help. I am rightful to persuade appeal for owe pay me £55.95 vouchers and free replacement DPRC! I’m not pay fee £10 for replacement card because not lost or stolen it was Inspector responsible! My husband had purchased own DPRC railcard last February 2024 because important for him for Eye Moorfield hospital routine.
