Quantum fiber wi-fi 7
Quantum fiber used to work fine with WiFi 6 but started to experience problems as they started updating their system to WiFi 7 this past spring. The system speed does seem to have become more stable, however the new WiFi 7 does not seem very compatible with most WiFi 5 and 6 devices and the app shows all these devices as having ‘fair’ or ‘poor’connectivity throughout the house. Under WiFi 6 connectivity to the 4 remote pods and device was very good to excellent.
The new WiFi 7 main pod is supposed to have a greater range – if so it is very slight. The initial install included one remote pod and I had to order an additional remote pod just to get ‘fair’ connectivity throughout the house.
We’ve had techs out to the house 3 times, spoken with technical services over the phone and not much help. They say not to trust the Speed Test, or their version of Speed Test as their Quantum app is very buggy. It’s true, the app is unreliable. The odd thing is that the install techs conduct a survey, and even their tool shows a fair or pool connectivity between the main pod and the remote pods (which are only 30 – 35 feet from the main pod). Sometimes is shows devices as connected by Ethernet, some times by wifi and sometimes shows devices that do not exist as part of my network connected to my wifi or Ethernet. And all devices show up as a ‘fair’ connection or ‘poor’ connection.
Even though speeds show as 300- 500Mbps, we experience periodic buffering, slowness to connect and respond to commands that we never experienced when all was WiFi 6.
All in all, Quantum fiber and its app appear to be prematurely released and not ready for prime time and earn an overall 2 stars.
