Constant noise, they tried to keep my deposit
Don't stay/study here. I lived here in 2023/2024, and had the worst experience: loud room, irregularly cleaned common areas and petty staff which tried to keep my deposit after I submitted a noise complaint.
First, the day I moved in there were multiple issues with the room: the desk table was wobbly and almost fell apart, the heating didn't work and the carpet was dirty. They begrudgingly replaced the table, but never fixed the rest.
Second, turns out my room was right above the seminar room which they use for both teaching and events. I heard non-stop noise all the time, from 8:00 to 22:00: people talking, ping pong tables, furniture being shovled, music. They refused to allow me to switch rooms or end my lease early, so I had to file a complaint with the City Council. They were forced to keep quiet then, but they were angry about it.
Third, when I moved out they tried to charge me £150 for cleaning - they sent me pictures with minor dust, and it was clear to me this was pay-back for the noise complaint. Thankfully, my deposit was under the Deposit Protection Scheme and they took my side: Ridley Hall had to pay me back my full deposit plus interest.
