Rotary's ethical standards on the Job
Rotary's ethical standards extend well beyond the meeting room, they govern a member's conduct in both their professional and personal life. Members publicly commit to "act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life." That pledge is unambiguous.
My personal experience with a member from CH-9052 Niederteufen, Switzerland, fell seriously short of that standard. Member conduct was inconsistent with Rotary's Code of Conduct and a direct violation of the ethical principles the organisation was built upon.
Rotary was founded on the explicit purpose of uniting ethical business and professional leaders. Misconduct in a member's professional dealings is not a peripheral concern, it strikes at the very core of what qualifies someone to carry the Rotary name and Rotary Pin in public. When members are permitted to act otherwise without consequence, it undermines the integrity of the entire organisation worldwide.
