I feel this holiday has been miss-sold and should not offered out of season

I booked an 8 day tour of 'The Azores' in January 2026 which cost £1,461, including the excursion package at £179, 7x buffet dinners at £219 and a single room supplement of £219.
The holiday description implied that the Azores are a year round destination, they are NOT. I booked this trip primarily for whale and dolphin watching and the volcanos. The whale watching trip was cancelled due to rough seas. The local taxi driver said the whale watching season doesn't start until March/April. To compensate we were given a lunch (€20) and taken to a very small museum (€3) while the whale watching trip in the hotel was advertised at €60. When I complained I was told 'options on the islands are limited and subject to weather conditions' which is why this trip should NOT be offered out of season. In addition customer relations stated 'The cancellation was due to circumstances beyond our control and an alternative was provided; no refund is due' despite RSD making an EXTRA €1,406 profit at our expense (€60-€23 = €37 x 38 passengers).
Because of the trip cancellation we therefore had a free day & someone in their infinite wisdom decided to give us the Sunday off. We'd had a tour of the town the previous Friday and on the Sunday even less was open. The hop-on hop-off buses weren't running, the lava tunnels closed, the art gallery shut, 2 churches and bell tower locked . I couldn't even visit Sete Cidades volcanic crater - I could get a bus there but due to a reduced timetable, I couldn't get one back, so it was a complete waste of a day.
The food at the hotel was like school dinners and certainly not worth £31 a meal.
To be fair the hotel room was comfortable, the guide Pedro was lovely and informative and the driver great, but the holiday itself was a huge disappointment.
In addition RSD's customer relations leave a lot to be desired. I will not be booking a holiday with them again and I would ask you to think twice before you book a holiday with them.

The food was cold

In Turkey, 11/02/2026 to 18/02/2026, the cooked, 'hot' food was between cool and lukewarm, apart from the cooked on site omlettes.
On Rhodes, 10/02/2026 and 18/02/2026 to 23/02/2026, the cooked food was cold, including the omlettes.
The final hotel on Rhodes had a shower over a bath where the steadying handle came away, as there were no screws securing one end.

An amazing journey thanks to Alok and the RSD team.

We had a wonderful experience in India with RSD. Our tour guide, AlokTripathi is a true professional. He is punctual, organized, and his local network is impressive. He always managed to get us to the sights before the crowds and handled unexpected challenges—like road closures—effortlessly by arranging alternative transport like tuk-tuks.
Alok showed us "hidden gems" that made the trip extra special. We felt very safe and well cared for by Alok, our driver, and the co-pilot. If you're looking for a well-organized and comfortable way to see India: this is it. We loved it!

Super trip to The Balkans

I really enjoyed the holiday to the Balkans with RSD. It was a great experience. The flights were good and air staff very pleasant. We visited lots of interesting places in each of the 4 countries. Our tour guide and the bus driver were excellent and they took really good care of us. The coach was comfortable and we had plenty of stops. We also had free time to explore some of the cities we stopped at. All of the hotels were of a good standard, and clean. One was a lovely spa hotel. The food was varied, some great, some good, some mediocre.

Profit before Safety

We had been destined to travel to India for a 14-day tour on 31/1/26. On 28/1/26 my wife was having supervision. The supervisor mentioned that my wife would be unable to come into the office until they were sure that she had not contracted Nipah while in India.
We did our homework on Nipah and found the Nipah virus infection is a zoonotic illness that is transmitted to people from animals and can also be transmitted through contaminated food or directly between people. In people with the infection, it causes a range of illnesses from asymptomatic infection to acute respiratory illness, meningitis and brain swelling (encephalitis) for the most severe cases. It is a virus that is mainly found in India. There is a mortality rate of 70%. There is no cure and no vaccine. The situation in India is being monitored by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The WHO has India on high alert about Nipah. The countries adjoining India have set up Nipah testing stations for all visitors from India.
We contacted RSD on Wednesday 28/1/25 about Nipah. They had never heard of Nipah. They told us that our safety is their greatest concern. They only use the Foreign Office recommendations for travel.
Our son has a kidney problem; both my wife and I are being tested to be potential kidney donors for him. We do not want to compromise this. We made RSD aware of this.
The recommendation from the WHO is not to have any contact with any person or animal who is ill. Ensure that all fruit and vegetables are washed thoroughly before consuming, ensure all meat is properly cooked, not to consume any date oil, and to avoid contact with bats. The recommendations from the WHO is not being communicated by RSD.
We cancelled our trip due to our concerns about Nipah by email. RSD then sent an email with an attachment stating that we would have no refund. We wrote to RSD to ask for a refund; we stated that we were happy to be pay an admin fee for cancellation They replied and categorically started there would be no refund. We replied to RSD but they did not answer. Ignoring all correspondence.

First trip with RSD travel and only…

First trip with RSD travel and only have positive comments, highly organised trip and we had the best guide who was so knowledgeable that made even the longer trips interesting and fun. We visited the Balkans, it was not somewhere we would have thought to have travelled too until we saw it advertised,l but highly recommend if you like to visit different countries. We are looking forward to booking our next trip with you.

We had a fantastic trip to the Balkans

We had a fantastic trip to the Balkans. So much to see! We took light chocolate bars with us so we didn't waste time ordering & waiting for lunchtime food so we could make best use of our time when we stopped in various places. Our female Turkish guide was amazing. A hearing aid popped out flipped by anorak hood & we eventually established where it was lost. Our guide organised with contacts to get the heating aid from 2 hrs drive away to us before we left our hotel the next day. Nothing was too much trouble. Wouldn't describe it as a leisurely trip, busy & very much on the go! We had good food, did drink the tap water without problems & all our hotel stop were fine though the last one reminded us of the 'old' Russian hotels. We've done a lot of travelling & this is not a trip for those who prefer relaxing on sunbeds. Except for one hotel where we had 2 consecutive nights, we didn't bother to unpack suitcases as early morning departures. Go if you want to experience something a little different & see amazing UNESCO sites & you'll love it. We certainly did. The late departure from Gatwick was due to 2 couples on the trip who got off the plane from Manchester, then couldn't get back into the airport, so we all had to get off, have passports checked so they could establish the missing couples & have their baggage removed from the plane. Yes people were frustrated as they couldn't understand the delay but we all had our holiday but those 2 couples, (who hadn't listened to the flight crew's instructions to stay on the Manchester plane when it arrived at Gatwick) did not get their holiday!

This holiday company takes all the stress…

This holiday company takes all the stress out of sightseeing, from airport checkin to return journey. The opportunity to visit places that are difficult to do if organising yourself and arranging transport is incredible. Travelling with like minded people is so enjoyable and an added bonus of the trip. The value for money is fantastic, no payments for luggage carry or transfers, entrance to arranged sights, hotels of an acceptable standard.
The add on offering of extra visits are very good value and the dinner package( buffet) worth doing.
Overall a great company.

RSD 8 day Cultural tour of The Balkans

Back from an 8 day cultural tour of the Balkans and we really enjoyed it. Hotels and food were great and the culture and sights fascinating. Our Guide was so interesting and helpful, we'd really consider revisiting the regions. The only criticism I could make would be early morning starts in order to cover the miles on the road, otherwise this was a great holiday and super value for money🙂

An absolutely superb trip to Sth. Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana

We've travelled with RSD numerous times now. Our recent South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana trip met, and indeed, exceeded any expectations we had. An absolutely superb trip. Excellent value, well organized, with amazing safari's. Our accomadation ranged from superb safari lodges to up-range hotels. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, in a group of 26 of us, again all lovely company. The safari's were incredible, mainly in jeeps carrying 6 - 9 of us. Well maintained, again with knowledgeable rangers, breaks including coffee/tea/cakes - very decadent! Zimbabwe (a far less wealthy country) was just as interesting, as was Botswsna, Chobe National Park, Victoria Falls, Pretoria, khami Ruins, and the Nelson Mandela history on the last day. This trip does involve a lot of coach travelling, naturally, given the amount of distance covered. Our coach driver was amazing - certainly the Zimbabwean roads are a 'challenge' ! We were grateful for the return journey back to Johannesburg being a flight. RSD have received criticism in the past for charging 'extras', for instance, the 'meal deal' or additional trips. This is unfair criticism. At the point of booking everything is very clear, and the customer has a choice. The value of these holidays is exceptional, far far cheaper than other companies, so it is up to the customer what 'extras' you decide to add. Administration is always good, as is communication. This particular trip was perfect !!

A fascinating cultural trip to the Balkans

It was a very well organised cultural trip to the Balkans.
The travel guide Gokce was an outstanding linguist and her commentaries were always erudite.
The coach driver was excellent, as it was an extremely challenging itinerary, visiting four countries in a week. It was our first trip with RSD but it won't be our last.

Great holiday

Great holiday, legit and great value. Good choice of hotels and one of the easiest ways to see lots of sites in one trip. A few little issues with the guide being rude, the flight times were quite difficult and like all coach tour operators lots of attempts to upsell.

Cappadocia Nov 2025

Just returned from the Cappadocia Cultural Tour which overall was excellent. We visited many fascinating and beautiful sites. Our hotels in Antalya and Nevsehir were very good. Coach driver was helpful, polite and professional at all times. Our tour guide Özlem was the icing on the cake, she really is a star and a credit to the company. Very much looking forward to my Sri Lanka trip with RSD next year
