This is a lovely cosy restaurant

This is a lovely cosy restaurant, it has a nice feeling and the welcome we received was fantastic ( a free glass of bubbles and very helpful chef who could not have done more for us).
The outside of the restaurants is a bit run down- old signs - dead plants ( we do understand it’s has been a very dry summer so far but dig them out) over flowing ash tray out side.
Inside again it is an old building and the tables and floors where very clean but there is signs of wear and tare and a deep clean and lick of paint would really benefit this place.
There were lots of options we could have chose and we asked the chef to do what ever he wanted as first time here and we are used to taster menu so 5/6 courses of his choosing.
For us the salmon starter and beef starter they were lovely quality - a little to big and needed more thought and a little more seasoning to elevate the flavours of such lovely ingredients.
Outstanding dishes were the feta cheese and grilled water melon !! The Gorgonzola and wild mushroom gnocchi, so delicious. The aubergine and filo pastry flat bread was also a fantastic dish.
Now we were served 2 fish dishes - sea bass with fresh tomatoe salad and pickled mussel's the tomatoes were so good but there wasn’t anything bringing this dish together, tomatoes that good should be served as a main dish we didn’t need the sea bass, they were so good the sea bass got lost and that was a shame.
The same with the salmon served with little gem ceaser salad dressing the salmon had a lovely crispy skin but it was a dry dish, for us it was not a good mix a lovely bit of salmon with two half’s of little gem lettuce with a attempt at a ceaser salad- bit of bacon -anchovy and some white sauce it was a bit deconstructed. I think the 2 fish dishes we had could definitely be rethought as in the restaurant is a chef that can clearly cook and that comes through so much.
The service was lovely nothing was too much trouble and the waitress was polite and friendly.
We would revisit this restaurant price was good. Service was great. Just need to take a step back and when you have a wonderful Ingredient just care for that one thing - like you have in several of the dishes we tried. Like the fish a little light sauce - some green beans would be perfect or with the salmon serve with some baby summer vegetables and a little dressing or sauce.
Thank you for a lovely meal this is just our thoughts

Absolutely Stunning!

Decided to book a last minute reservation and completely delighted we did.
Kya was a truly wonderful and attentive host.
Even despite me asking for adaptions to the menu, and also changing my mind to a portion size mid way through our 5 course meal!!!
The food was sensational, the scallops blew us away.
So much care, love and detail went into each course.
Its a shame we live on the other side of the country, but will definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Essex.
Thank you again Kya.

Small Perfect Tasty

Small Intimate Cosy Kitchen.
The menu is small but the variety is spot on.
Quality rather then quantity, we had the 2 course menu. I had the Scallops as a starter and the Brisket as main, both truly exquisite and very tasty. 5⭐ without any doubt. Also good service from the waiting staff.
