Allergy sufferers beware!
I flew with Ryanair from London Stansted to Biarritz in May 2025 for a long weekend trip.
As I suffer from a severe peanut allergy, when boarding the plane I notified the nearest cabin crew member of my allergy and they assured me they would make an announcement of my allergy to other passengers and not serve any peanut products on the plane.
However after over 30 minutes of the flight, no announcement was made and when the seat belt sign was lifted, I went to the front of the plane to speak to another cabin crew to request an announcement. However, on my way I noticed several passengers eating either full bags of peanuts or peanut M&Ms which it transpired had actually been sold on board the flight! Not only had Ryanair failed to make an announcement but they continued selling them on board the flight.
When I finally spoke to the cabin crew, they were very apologetic and said they had not been told by the other cabin crew member about my allergy. They immediately made an announcement, after which the passengers who had already purchased peanuts requested a refund for their purchase.
This lack of communication could have resulted in a serious issue on board the flight however, simply because the first flight attendant did not make a note of my allergy nor make an announcement.
I had exactly the same issue on my return flight where , after initially informing a flight attendant when I boarded the flight, I had to remind a different attendant after take-off as no announcement had been made.
For those with allergies, EasyJet seem to be a much better option. Not only do they make the announcements on time, but they do not serve any peanut products on board the flight. I find it very strange that unless a passenger informs the cabin crew that they have a peanut allergy, Ryanair will happily sell peanuts on board (and not bother to clean the planes afterwards).
Wrong seats and damaged luggage
Have used ryanair on six occasions in the last year you pay for extra legroom then they change the plane, cabin crew tell you to claim extra fare back then you spend three days getting sent all round their customer service or perhaps it should be called NON SERVICE DEPARTMENT.
Last year they damaged one of the cases waited weeks they never bothered paying out excuse for everything. This last trip on Saturday bags damaged again no legroom seat just a joke. They ask you to review their staff response why bother just give everybody no stars from chief executive o'leary to the tea boy. O'leary is always in the papers moaning about third parties, its air traffic control or whatever perhaps he should read what customers think of his staff and his airline. Look closely Mr O'Leary the problems are closer to home try putting your own house in order before moaning about otherd
Fraudulent charging
3 different suitcases, all fitting the Ryanair measurements - got charged all 3 times. Never again. The crew must be working on commission as they are wrongly charging. After I measured it in front of them, they still insisted on us paying. They refused to give their names on the Copenhagen airport, clearly knowing what they’re doing is wrong.
Default charge not in advertised currency
I pre-ordered food on a flight today in the standard RyanIr currency of Euro’s but was charged in GBP at a 12% exchange rate loss to me. I questioned the staff on the flight and was told since April the default rate their credit card machine operates at is GBP and the staff member offered to show me the concern. This seems to fundamentally wrong and if the default charge is in GBP then surely the price on the app should also be in GBP.
Update from Ryanair is regardless of details in the magazine they charge based on the currency of the flights origin so have closed my case 63743711. The flight originated in Spain and they charged me in GBP at a rate of 1.06. I pointed out the flight originated in Spain but they insist to closed the concern as state they have used the originated currency of the flight. But this clearly is not the case
Poor Service
Avoid Ryanair if you can. I have deep dissatisfaction with the level of service experienced on a recent Ryanair flight from Luton to Dublin. The flight was delayed by seven and a half hours, during which passengers were made to remain in the aircraft on the airport apron for approximately five and a half hours.
No food was provided throughout this period, and only limited and reluctantly distributed bottled water was made available. Furthermore, we have been informed that no compensation will be issued, with the delay attributed to adverse weather conditions. However, this justification appears questionable, as other flights in the vicinity were departing and arriving without similar issues.
A journey that should typically take around one hour ultimately took nine hours to complete, which is entirely unacceptable. We lost half a day of car hire, and a planned visit had to be cancelled.
Ryanair is a dystopian neoliberal nightmare
As a frequent traveller who has experienced a wide range of airlines over the years—from budget carriers to full-service international airlines—I can now say, without a doubt, that nothing compares to the sheer chaos, stress, and psychological torment that Ryanair manages to inflict on its customers.
From start to finish, flying with Ryanair feels like being trapped in a Kafkaesque parody of air travel. The constant barrage of hidden fees, the robotic and often hostile customer service, and the sense that the entire operation is designed to wring every last euro from you without providing even the bare minimum of human decency—it’s a masterclass in corporate cynicism.
I recently had the misfortune to experience this also with their so called “gift vouchers”. These vouchers—often issued as compensation or bought in good faith—expire after just one year, even if you live in Europe. This is particularly galling given that EU consumer protection law generally requires gift vouchers to remain valid for five years. But Ryanair, in its usual fashion, sidesteps this by layering on technicalities and ensuring there’s no reminder, no courtesy notification, nothing. It feels less like an oversight and more like a calculated effort to let vouchers expire quietly so they can pocket the funds without ever having to deliver a service.
For an airline that markets itself on being "low-cost", Ryanair has perfected the art of psychological taxation. Every step of the journey—from booking, to boarding, to simply trying to redeem a voucher—is engineered to frustrate, confuse, and penalize you. The fact that they operate legally under the guise of offering budget travel is a damning indictment of how far customer standards have been allowed to fall.
If you’re considering Ryanair because it looks cheap on paper, ask yourself how much your mental health is worth. Because once you factor in the rage, the anxiety, the feeling of being gaslit by a faceless algorithm masquerading as customer service—suddenly, it’s not such a bargain after all.
Special mention must also go to the European regulatory bodies, who continue to turn a blind eye while companies like Ryanair twist, stretch, and outright ignore the spirit of consumer protection laws. It's astonishing how little oversight there seems to be when it comes to airlines exploiting legal loopholes, undermining basic customer rights, and operating with impunity. What was once a region known for strong consumer advocacy is now increasingly complicit in allowing corporations to erode those protections year after year. The fact that Ryanair can get away with practices like these speaks volumes—not just about the airline, but about the steady dismantling of consumer rights in Europe.
A joke of a company - you get what you 'pay' for
For our LTN-MLA flight we purchased extra legroom seats - an extra £42 service. When we boarded the aircraft (which was already delayed), we were told the aircraft was changed last minute, the staff weren't supposed to be flying to Malta, but to France - they were all clueless.
When we got to our seats, we realised they were standard seats, not extra legroom. The cabin crew said this is because this is a different aircraft and we should receive a refund on the Ryanair portal if we request.
I hav tried doing this since the next day until now, wich no luck - every ticket/claim/live chat session I raise and explain my concern and ask to be refunded, the ticket/live chat session simply gets closed.
This company is stealing my money. They arw thieves, refusing to refund ne for a service I haven't been provided with.
DO NOT EVER USE THEM.
The worst airline experience
Our two flights, first from Athens to Malta, were delayed by two hours, and now we find ourselves stuck on the plane for an hour and a half on the ground for the return trip to Athens. I believe this is the worst airline experience I've ever had.
This is the letter i sent to Ryanair…
This is the letter i sent to Ryanair who haven’t responded yet..
I am writing on behalf of our group to formally lodge a complaint regarding an extremely distressing incident that occurred during the boarding process of our recent Ryanair flight. This situation not only caused significant financial loss—approximately £2,000 in associated costs—but also deeply affected us both as a group and as individuals, given the emotional importance of our journey.
This trip was specifically planned around a once-in-a-lifetime event—a pre wedding event —that held immense personal and collective significance. The disruption caused by your ground staff's negligence and unacceptable conduct had a profound impact on what should have been a joyful and memorable occasion.
As instructed, our group proceeded to the boarding gate. Two members were informed that additional fees were required for their luggage. This was paid and the relevant attachments to the bags were given. The two members were then called via the tannoy by their first names. Your member of staff then came and told us that the payment had been declined despite there being available balance. We then offered to repay, this was rejected. We made multiple requests to speak with a manager or supervisor, all of which were denied without reason.
We were then told the two individuals would not be allowed to board due to non-payment. We even offered to leave the luggage behind and board the flight without it—an option that was also refused without sufficient explanation or flexibility.
To make matters worse, during the exchange, a member of your staff physically pushed one of our group members—a moment we have captured on video. This aggressive behavior is entirely unacceptable and must be addressed with the utmost seriousness.
The emotional toll of being separated and missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, combined with the financial burden incurred, has been devastating. As such, we are requesting an immediate full refund and reimbursement for all additional costs resulting from this incident, which I’m finding it increasing difficult to put a figure to at this moment in time.
I have sent a complaint in and had no response as of yet. Your staff member has acted negligently and has not followed any of Ryanair’s protocol
I give Ryanair 5 stars
I give Ryanair 5 stars, and I not understand why people always complain! I fly with them many times, and every time is great. Plane always on time, and I get to my place no problem. Price is so good, very cheap for ticket, and I not need to pay extra for fancy things. They do what they promise—take me from one place to another, safe and fast.
Staff is kind, help me when I have question, and check-in is easy with app. Plane is clean, and I like how they make everything simple. People say bad things, but I think they expect too much for low price. Ryanair is honest, you get good travel for small money. I recommend to everyone who want fly cheap and easy!
Flight home was moved to a later time…
Flight home was moved to a later time than our original booking which we reluctantly accepted.
Then when we were waiting at the airport to go home at their revised later time - they then cancelled our flight and said we weren't flying until 22.30 which is the time we should have been landing home. Really inconvenient as we had a lift sorted out the other end. Won't use them again.
Rip off costs for baggage and seats
When booking your flights, and have to pay extra to get guaranteed seats together, this should be for both flights in and out instead of having to pay separately and is a rip off. Then on top of that, for booking a bag 10kg or over is extra costs too and again when you do pay, this payment should be included for both in and out instead of having to pay separately! Ridiculous and totally not great customer service experience. Due to this i feel i will not be flying with Ryanair again!
Staff disappear once a flight is…
Staff disappear once a flight is delayed. Not one notification on why and appalling customer service! Delayed 3 hours already and still no information from poor staff! Never fly again with this disgraceful airline.
Non existent staff
Non existent staff
Our flight time from greece flying home was pushed back 3 times- we had to refresh the Ryanair website to see any info regarding delay times and an email was eventually received to tell us it was delayed- with no reason given. At the final pushed back time the gate showed as open and everyone started to queue, a member of airport staff appeared at the gate and disappeared just as quick. After around 20 minutes of people queuing at an ‘open’ gate the Ryanair website showed the flight as ‘cancelled.’ The screens in the airport removed the flight completely so there was no information and it took at least half an hour to get an email advising it was cancelled. The reason given being ‘adverse weather’ despite us having family members take off on a Ryanair flight from the same airport a few hours later and other flights taking off the whole time we were sat including a Ryanair plane right outside our gate!? We were told we would have more information in 40 minutes which turned into an hour at which time we were escorted downstairs to collect our luggage and told to queue at the Swiss port desk and see if they could help. Not a SINGLE member of Ryanair staff was seen the entire 9 hours we spent at the airport. Whilst queuing at the port desk at 7:30 a text was received to say sort your own travel and accommodation and submit reasonable expenses later. After 2 hours in the port queue with computer systems down we gave up and had to book accommodation for the night. As a pregnant lady I was fuming at being sat around for 9 hours causing stress and back pain. More disgustingly there were families with young children and babies, people with disabilities and not everyone has money to book alternative flights/accommodation themselves people save like crazy for a holiday and book with Ryanair to save themselves some money you should be ashamed. No communication whatsoever. First time on a Ryanair flight- never again. Save up the extra and avoid!
6hrs delayed
Budget airline so don't expect much but 6hrs delayed with very little information given. Very poor customer service from cabin crew to gate staff.
Refuse to accept checked bags
Terrible policy of only accepting checked bags a maximum of 2 hours before flight departure. Wasted time in a huge bag drop queue, only to be told at the front that it is Ryanair policy to refuse to accept bag drops more than two hours before flight departure (even when already checked in online). Complete waste of time, and ruined the time we were expecting to be able to spend in the post-security lounge. Never encountered this with any other airline, and will avoid paying for any checked bags when using Ryanair in future. This was at Gran Canaria airport.
Beware, their fees are products
Seconding another review stating their fees when any mistakes are made are actually products. Autofill changed my first name to my nickname on a booking, I contacted customer services to appeal to their better nature but was told I must pay 115 EUR to make the change. That’s fine, and the rep “kindly” offered to do this for me, quoting me 115 EUR. I went to my account and had instead been charged £160. Went back to customer services with screenshots to prove I was quoted 115 EUR but was told it does in fact cost £160. They are right, I am wrong and if I want to fly I must pay the fee. No manager to speak to and if I have no questions on a separate topic they will close the chat on me.
The online customer service is smoke and mirrors. They’re paying staff to tell customers they are wrong and making sure they charge as much as possible when people make mistakes.
I won’t choose this airline again and will be deleting my account with them. I’m very happy to pay another airline more money for the guarantee of actual customer services when things do go wrong.
Terrible customer service
Review on behalf of my wife (ryanair if you review this please help with a person not an AI chat bot or someone who is useless).
I would place a 0 star review but we can't!!!! My wife has been trying to resolve an issue for an impending holiday in June on every platform going for Ryanair to no avail. Every complaint, request and anything started is closed. Over 13 hours over multiple days, wasted. A refund that is also in her account can't be withdrawn. Terrible customer service to date and we are now really worried about being at the airport and check in. You even cancelled me off the holiday!!!!
Never again.
Never again.
I was denied boarding just one minute after the gate closed — even though we had already been waiting for half an hour to be let in. I had only stepped away to use the restroom, and when I came back, they had already shut the gate. The smiles and laughter from the staff at the end said it all. Never again. I do not recommend this airline.
Correction of a surname mistake!
Szczegolne podziekowania do wyjatkowego customer assistant , Kacper Wielewicki 🫶🏼
Whilst checking in I’ve noticed a small error on a surname that needed editing and amending but since the flight took place on the same day it could only be done by an agent, outside of my power.
I’ve received an outstanding help and Kacper got straight to the point and sorted it all for me within the next few minutes. Was super helpful and made me feel super welcoming and happy to help which was a great feeling. Definitely 10 out of 10 👏
