Terrible experience - bed bug infested!

DO NOT STAY HERE! Before going to sleep we noticed a bug crawling in one of the beds. Turned out it was a bed bug! Upon closer inspection we ended up discovering multiple bed bugs in one bed in our dorm, also some crawling on the walls. When we went to report this to reception, they were not at all surprised and were completely unhelpful in the situation. They told us we should leave the hostel, bear in mind it was 12:30am at this point, with all other hostels and hotels being fully booked nearby and we did not feel safe wandering the streets in the middle of the night to look for alternative accommodation. We asked reception for help to find other places to stay, they suggested ONE hostel which was fully booked! And they made NO EFFORT to find alternative accommodation for us. They gave us a contact card to email them and request a refund, which then took MULTIPLE follow up emails for them to finally respond, despite us sending clear photos and videos of evidence of bed bugs in the room. Do not book here. Absolutely disgusting.
Other cons:
- AC does not work!
- Very thin doors combined with a noisy hostel so you could hear people shouting down the hallways in the night
- Front door to the building was left unlocked, had a random person start knocking at our door saying they had left their key inside.
- Tiny shower where you could barely move inside (I am short and thin and still struggled to move properly), also there are dispensers for shower gel but it had not been filled up.

Outstanding service!!!

Am staying at Safestay Holland Park and as always i am enjoying my stay, i am being looked after and the staff are amazing. Great facilities and amazing value for money. I highly recommend:)

Safestay Glasgow cannot be trusted AVOID!!!

I had a booking (made months ago) to stay here on 6th December. This afternoon 6 days before our stay I received an email saying we've cancelled your reservation at your request. I made no such request and I'm livid as after calling them I was told they are carrying out essential maintenance to the room and therefore won't be able to let us stay...no offer of another room, no compensation... nothing!! Avoid at all cost they cannot be trusted. Disgusting way to treat customers

Safestay Barcelona was the worst hostel…

Safestay Barcelona was the worst hostel experience I have ever had. I am a 24 year old traveling alone and they refused to let me stay their because I didn’t have a physical copy of my passport. I did however have a government if and a photo copy of my passport and even went to the police who told me that would be enough to prove identification and sleep there. Not only did they leave me stranded they didn’t give me a refund. They forced me to pay while also refusing to allow me to stay. On top of that the reception stay was so rude it was criminal. The woman Mary if that was her actually name but I think she made it up was probably the most spiteful woman I’ve ever met in my life. She was mean and didn’t even try to help me find a place to go while I was scared and alone. This is a grown woman too… I only hope she finds happiness in her life so she can stop hurting others. And if Safestay wants to improve their several bad ratings they will find a new front of stay and work with their customers more instead of stealing their money.

❌ Extremely disappointing experience…

❌ Extremely disappointing experience with Safestay Warsaw.

I booked a refundable stay via the official Safestay website in March 2025, for check-in in late October 2025. Despite this, the full amount was charged to my credit card immediately after booking – over 6 months in advance – which directly contradicts the company's own booking policy, which clearly states that payment for refundable bookings is only due 24 hours before arrival.

I canceled my booking on September 27th, well within the free cancellation window, and received no confirmation or refund. I emailed the property and followed up multiple times, but received no meaningful response. Even an official complaint to Safestay’s head office was bounced back as undeliverable.

This is not only a serious breach of the company's own stated terms, but also reflects a complete lack of customer service and accountability.

I am now forced to seek a chargeback via my bank and consider reporting this case to the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK).

⚠️ Travelers beware: Safestay Warsaw may charge you far in advance and ignore cancellation/refund requests – even if your booking is refundable.

safestay.com Barcelona is the worst accommodation ever

14 September I booked with cancellation option’safestay.com Barcelona’ from 3 October to 8 October . After many calls and messages asking for checking information (as I needed to leave my luggage and more) and a blanket as now temperatures go below 15 degrees during night and weather forecast was bad, I first received a message unrelated to my questions as follows:

After dozens of messages and calls both from me and booking yet no response.
When booking wrote that I like to cancel suddenly they were very happy to immediately send me a message saying that as per policy it was now too late for a refund.
Guess what It would have been possible if they had replied when I questioned them first time.
Conclusion they DO NOT REFOUND ME. Booking doesn’t do anything about it. I’m GENIUS level 3, costumer since long time but this doesn’t matter to Booking.
I will close my Booking account and I recommend you to do the same.
They protect places like Safestay.com instead of long trustful customers. This on top of the damage they procured me of time lost, anxiety and money loss.

Absolutely disgraceful

Absolutely disgraceful. I booked in advance through Booking.com, travelled all the way to the hostel — only to be told on arrival that they had no beds and didn’t care at all. No apology, no help, no solution — just rude staff who clearly don’t respect their guests. This place is completely unreliable, unprofessional, and a total SCAM. Avoid at all costs unless you want to waste your time, money, and energy.

We stayed at this hostel in Pisa…

We stayed at this hostel in Pisa (Italy) for only one night. It was not a good experience. They will charge you for pretty much everything it's possible to charge you for. This would have been less anoying if it wasn't for the overall bad service. There was also no working air conditioning in the rooms. The heat was horrible. We got old fashioned keys and the doors didn't automatically lock themselves in the dorms.... which ment that if someone forgot to lock the door then anyone could walk in. It smelled of chlorine in the room (enough to give me a headache). The whole place seemed cheap and dirty. I will not book a room here again.

Very bad and unprofessional

Guys any of you who are planning to stay in this hostel be prepared to pay extra money on arrival if you want the lower bunk bed most of the times they will rip you off "
What a nonsense customer service +attitude. Absolute a small jungle hostel.
the manager of this branch you should be ashamed of yourself I can mention your name here but i wont if needed in future i will if a customer haven't used bad language or even did anything wrong you can't deny entry. I contacted you by phone to get exact reason and you told me you will send me via email which you still haven't .I will wait a bit more for your email.
And one more thing stop asking more money for the same bed room on arrival.

I booked to stay 4 nights and I have…

I booked to stay 4 nights and I have bites on my legs and arms and they are quite nasty! I ordered fish and chips from the menu and waited nearly 1 hour for food to arrive! Fish was stone cold and soggy. They took it back to kitchen and I waited another 10 mins or so. Sufficed to say won't be eating anything else as I now am not well after having stomach cramps all day. Thus far the worst experience in my life.Also every time I have a smoke the amount of tourists staying here asking for a smoke is worse than people begging that are homeless. I dare not put on the table!

Most gross hostel ever

Most gross hostel ever, the toilets are gross!! The shower is dirty, the rooms are dirty. We went here with a school trip and all the student don’t recommend. Not even for 1 night. The beds are gross and there are boogers everywhere on the walls. The toilet had blood everywhere, I tried to clean it bus it was dried into the seat, so I wonder how often cleaners come here.

Please don't assume that every place is…

Please don't assume that every place is the same. Here in York the atmosphere is
different. Rest assured you'll be looked after. First of all you 'll be visiting a historical building, the service is good as well as the hospitality. The rooms are clean. The place is great in general for the price. Ola is here to help you, she's a multitasker and very hospitable.

Please give me a direct email to management / manger. I have a very bad experience staying in Safestay Kensington.
She has no foundation of customer service she talked so rude. I hope she needs to understand she is doing a hospitality job. Customer service is everything. How dare she could say I don’t give a fuc. k a few times in front of customer. I would like to know what’s the company policy in regards to what kind of noise you can make in lobby? She and other colleagues always talking so loud at reception. does that count? I have checked out the room this morning and I saw she was talking very rude to others. Even it’s not a customer at least show some respect to people. If she doesn’t enjoy her job she may quit the job and replace by someone who enjoy working and provide service to people. Its also good for her mental health. From what I can see her mental health is not stable. It’s a place to welcome people but clearly not.

do not come here

DO NOT GO HERE AND I MEAN DO NOT. This place is absolutely awful,the rooms,the security,the food all of it was awful. The rooms are very unhygienic there was smeared snot on the wall and also poo stains the bed have bed bug the bathrooms smell like pee and you can hear everything from outside.I arrived here at 9pm expecting to enter my room,my room got delayed 3 hours and a few more people due to double booking and room safety. The security came banging on my door after midnight saying we were running down the corridor when we most certainly not and then proceeded to knock on everyone else's door. There were hardly any options for breakfast,the cutlery and cups were dirty the plates and cutlery were sticky and the cups had some sort of black dirt on the rim. The food also caused a few people that i was with to throw up and feel ill for the rest of the day. There is much more i could complain about but for anyone reading this looking for somwhere to saty i certainly do not advise here.

Doesn’t even deserve one star

Doesn’t even deserve one star. Beds have bed bugs, the staff are uneducated idiotz, and the rooms are disgusting. We came here on a school trip and we planned to book into our rooms for 9 but instead we couldn’t go in untill almost midnight because the staff double booked our rooms. I walked into my room to see boogies smudged on the wall with pee stains. Staff are very rude aswell. I was trying to get juice in the morning and every single cup was dirty! Never coming back to this place!

This hostel do not deserve not even one star. The muslins recepcionistes are terrible, very rude, no education at all, the hostel has the check in at 3 pm, I got over there 7 am in the morning only after you pay you get the info. I really regret to go there, I talk to the manager another very rude person. I asked them to cancel my book and one recepcionist said because I had paid eith the wise card. Internacional bank she could not cancel it, how is that? Wise is accepted in 180 contraespionagem, the manager is also very rude, He said that they have it in the website. But if you book it with the Booking you do not get the Website...never more....besides the fact that the recepcionistes seems to use the same clothes everyvday.....these People they are not flexible. To change bed they charge 5 pounds, I asked to give the number 2 or 6 close to the Window but she want to give number 3, I did not accepted it.....nevermore I will stay in hostels, there is no provacy. gests snore all night long......terrible experience...

Horrible Manager Adrian & Huge Bed Bugs

I was treated badly by Doaa and Adrian the manager before and after being bitten by bed bugs covering my brace and body. Speaking to two others who suffered the same, the conclusion is - beds are so cheap we the public should not complain about bed bugs attempting to chew us alive. According to one he told the staff not to use bed 8 in room 212 unless fumigated but they refused. Due to high cost of living we all need services within our budget but BED BUGS… The criminality of it all just makes me sad these people can get away with this behaviour. The staffs attempts to get me to believe I bit myself all over was insulting as none appeared educated. I was gaslit and made to feel terrible. This is a warning to fellow travellers if you don’t mind being chewed by bed bugs the Safestay Kensington is the place to be. I have numerous photos of bites to be uploaded.

place is infested with mice

place is infested with mice, including in the rooms, rooms smell and it does not feel a safe place, men harass women there and police often called. We once even witnessed a staff member beat up a customer for no reason , he was fired but it was shocking. Beds have lice - stuff gets stolen ... its cheap but not worth it and do not be lured by the location.... it is expensive around there and no actual bus to the hostel, you do have to walk with heavy luggage uphill. They close the lounge at 12 or so so you can not go there and we once saw a non staff member sleeping in the lounge who clearly was not a guest and the staff knew. The worst is that transactions came out of our account, for stays when we never stayed there and obviously is a fact, so how the money came out is a mystery given it was not done through any booking agent and they refused to refund.
