Waste of time

I rang to enquire about hiring a van to be told they don’t have any available as Royal Mail have booked them all out and that account holders (companies) have first priority and they mostly always are fully hired out because of them. So general customers haven’t got a chance basically. I spent 30 mins looking through their website deciding which vehicle out of the many options displayed would be suitable, it would have been helpful if the website informed that there was no vans available. Don’t bother with Salford Van Hire if you’re just looking for a day or two hire for general usage, you’re better trying elsewhere.

Great Service Manchester Team

I have been using Salford Van Hire Manchester for over 2 years. As I lived abroad I was often travelling backwards and forwards to the UK. Andrew was always extremely helpful and accommodating - he fixed me up with a car even if I only gave him 24 hours notice of my arrival. Prices were great compared to main stream car hire places. I can't speak highly enough of the team that looked after me and especially Andrew.

The service at the Leeds depot is…appalling

The service at the Leeds depot is appalling .
The staff on the front desk need to be educated on customer service .
They are so rude not only to my self but I have witnessed this on several occasions to other customers .
It seems a chore every time I go in to hire a vehicle .
To describe the Personel I’ll try my best .
The same two employees I find rude and unhelpful with seemingly long faces on every visit are the female who works there Eastern European at a guess plus a large type male with an uncut messy beard is the best way I can describe them without knowing there names .
I found the manager to be very helpful so no issues there.
I would say I have spent over £10K with this company over the last 2 years but I’m happy to say I will be taking my custom else where in future and would certainly not recommend them to any body else .
Disgusting attitude from the 2 on the front desk as mentioned above .
As the front of house staff I believe Salford van hire are employing the wrong people at this present moment in time .
So glad I don’t have to visit the leeds depot anymore as I really didn’t look forwards to the times when I had to visit .
Very very rude people .

I would like to raise a concern…

I would like to raise a concern regarding the professionalism of certain staff members at the Salford location. In particular, I have observed that Scott does not always interact with trainee staff in a professional manner. I have also heard that some new employees have left their roles due to similar experiences with this individual.

Additionally, there seems to be an issue with some long-standing staff members who act as though they have authority over others, which creates an unwelcoming environment for new employees. The training provided is not as supportive or encouraging as it should be, making it difficult for new hires to learn their roles effectively. Furthermore, management does not address concerns promptly, which only worsens these issues and negatively impacts staff morale. I believe that improving communication, training, and managerial responsiveness would help create a more positive and productive work environment for everyone.

Hired a 4m van this weekend from the leeds depot, very professional service from start to finish, the staff were really helpful and professional, the price was unbeatable. The van was quite new and really clean . Would definitely recommend Salford. Will definitely use them in the future. Thanks guys

Not trustworthy 😳

Hired a 7.5 ton van for two days - when returning the van less than a mile away from the depot i fully filled the tank with nozzle in tank fully eith bend on nozzle downwards (as is normal) until the fuel automatically stopped filling, then pulled nozzle backward out of tank slightly till click stop filling twice over -
(i brimmed it)
BUT when i returned the van "with needle bending past full" they proceeded to put their fuel filler in tank and turn the bend on end of filler nozzle upside down and then started to fill till it gushed out all over the side of van and floor - thus managing to get £8. Fuel charge to be taken off my deposit 🤔 i explained what i had just witnessed to the person in office but was basically just ignored and charged ! £8 isn't alot of money to moan about but its feeling ripped off or being scammed (as other reviews state) that's Very upsetting and why i have felt the need to share this with people who may be considering renting a vehicle from Salford Van Hire - SO BE AWARE NO MATTER HOW FULL YOU THINK YOU HAVE FILLED THE VEHICLE YOUR RETURNING - THERE'S ALWAY ROOM TO OVERFILL ONTO THE GROUND AND CHARGE YOU AN IFLATED FUEL PRICE - This practice of "OVER FILL & CHARGE" which i get the impression is a routine done thing at Salford Van Hire makes me mistrust the firm and i will never use them again - My advice would be to go elsewhere for van hire!!

Excellent service

Used SVH 3 times in the last most for a 3.5t Luton van. Each time the staff have been great easy to deal with and because you don’t have to pay a deposit to secure the rental it is easy to change dates a so needed to.
The staff at the desk, handover staff and those who receive the vehicle back have all been extremely welcoming professional and friendly.
The price form what I needed was the cheapest in the area.

Scammers and blackmailers
Most hire firms get you to full out all the agreements etc and take £1 deposit so they have your card details. This lot want either £100 or £500 up front, with your hire fee. Then when you return the vehicle as full of fuel as when you got it, there's a problem. They put the nozzle just into the tank and squeeze more in until it flows out and then charge you an extortionate rate. When you query it they say things like " you've just seen us put more in, maybe there was a bubble in the tank, maybe the nozzle you used to fill up was too long"
Absolute rubbish. No other company does this. The fuel gauge is showing full.
Anyway, argue as much as you like and they refuse to give you back your £100 or £500 they already have. Forcing you to pay it.
Absolute criminals.

Cannot book in advance

They tell you that you cannot book more than a week in advance. Yet if you try to book a week in advance they say they have no vans. Not sure how to be a customer when they won't let you book and clearly have no idea who has their van on any day

Salford Van Hire - Do not expect your full deposit back.

Hired a van from SVH for a weekend and suffered a flat tyre on the day we were due to return the van. SVH arranged a breakdown company to call out to us and without knocking on our door, started working on the van and eventually replaced the tyre without any real communication with us. We returned the van later that morning and were told the incident had to be 'investigated' so would have to wait for a phone call.

This came a few hours later to which they said they would have to charge us for the replacement and call out as the company didn't use the spare tyre that the van had. This was our responsibility to inform the breakdown company (that SVH instructed) apparently. They are also very reluctant to detail how they have calculated a £90 call out charge. They said this is what the breakdown company charge them.. It isn't. I got a quote from the same company, they charge £50.

In total, £227 was deducted from our £500 deposit. It became quite clear this is how they make their money. Would never use again or recommend them.

I have just returned a van back to…

NEVER AGAIN
I have just returned a van back to Salford Van Hire and was very surprised AND SHOCKED to be told i had damaged the van.
The lady behind the desk said its ok as you have paid the waver. My argument was that i hadn't bumped or scratched the van and to prove that i showed her the video that i took on the day of hiring with all the bumps and scratches.
The fact is that if i hadn't taken a video and paid for the waver i would have had to prove that i had done nothing to the van. Why do they walk around the van in the first place.
i wouldn't trust Salford Van Hire again as they lied and i don't do liars and cheats. ALWAYS TAKE A VIDEO OF THE VAN.
