We were rushed

We were rushed, our whole dinner experience took less than an hour, drinks arrived half way through our meal. I ordered bread and was given toast, the bread finally arrived towards the end of my meal. Our waitress did not employ appropriate social skills. I took friends for their birthday and was very disappointed with the experience. Amazing views!

Review of Sunday Lunch at Scotts, Queensferry | 12.04.26

“My wife and I made a return visit to Scotts nearly three weeks ago, for lunch on a Sunday. We had visited twice before and have been extremely impressed with the service, ambience and both the quality and the ambition of the food.

“Scotts has a striking and superb modern building, featuring close-up views of the three Forth bridges outside, and a large internal space that can seat nearly 150 covers, yet possesses a subtle, attractive ambience in which the tables still feel intimate, and the acoustics allowed for easy conversation; music was subdued.

“After a lovely pre-starter of whisky and haggis bites (bon-bons), I was keen to try a battered fish dish, but I’m not a fan of skinny chips, so I asked Erika, our first server, if it was possible to pay a bit extra to receive the triple-cooked Koffmann chips (a range of pre-prepared chips sold by Pierre Koffmann) offered on another dish. She immediately guided me to the Chef’s Specialities on the restaurant’s card menu where a large fillet of battered haddock was on offer with Koffmann chips. I had not seen this ‘Chef’s Specialities’ section in the online menus, so I gratefully ordered it. It was a large fillet, perfectly cooked, and the triple-cooked chips were pretty good – lovely fluffy interior and a crunch outside – though they didn’t quite have the ‘glassy’, crisp exterior which Heston Blumenthal writes of, and which I learned to present on a cookery course. (The ones I had may simply have sat on the pass a little too long.) My wife ordered the hot honey chicken burger from the standard mains menu, and loved it.

“The dishes were large enough for us not to need a dessert. By this time Erika had gone for lunch, so I asked another brilliant server, Becky, why the Chef’s Specialities were not shown on the online menus. She immediately went to ask the Chef, and returned a little late to tell me that they were available, but only via a link to a PDF page. She added that the Chef said he would make them available on the main menu page. I’m very happy to say that he has done this, which makes me want to recommend the quality of the cooking even more – the restaurant listens to its customers!

“Although we have not visited every member of the Buzzworks family of restaurants, Scotts is certainly the best one we have experienced. I will single out the servers Erika and Becky for special praise – they both gave us very helpful advice without making us feel we had made any mistake.”

Top notch

Whatever I type on this review won't give this place the justice it deserves. The restaurant is immaculate, quirky and really incorporates the 'seaside' aesthetic but in a modern classy way. I have visited the restaurant far too many times than I should really admit. The food is literally second to none and quality food at that. The chefs must craft this goodness with the tears from baby angels. Combined, we've nearly completed the menu...Tacos, coconut chilli chicken, paremesan lemon chicken, tuscan chicken, crispy tempura, prawn cocktail and my other half nearly cried the sirloin was that good. Above all, the staff are all legends. Whilst withholding a really high and professional demeanor, they are the most friendly humans to grace the earth. They go out their way to help you and make you feel known. Some fancy restaurants treat you different if you show up with bike leathers on, but not Scott's at Port Edgar ❤️ See you guys soon!

Definitely worth the visit

We visited on 02/05/2025.
I haven't scored the drinks as we had soft drinks but there seemed to be a good selection of ales, lagers, beers, wines and spirits at the bar.
The food is delicious and well presented with something for everyone.
We had cullen skink and the hoi sin duck for starters. Both were delicious and can be highly recommended by us.
We then had the rump of lamb and beef bourgignon and again both were delicious. The lamb is served pink but can be further cooked if desired (my personal taste is trust the chef but some may prefer more cooking...)
We had apple tart and affagato for dessert and again delicious. The affagato is my favourite so far but I've not tried all the desserts...yet!!
The staff are friendly, efficient and seem keen to make the visit special.
Booking is all but essential during good weather but walk ups may be lucky enough to get a table.
Views over the bridges and the river enhance the ambience that's already generated by the staff.

Very poor fare. Never again

I had the misfortune of re-visiting Scotts after 6 or 7 years from a previous visit. I am writing this review based purely on the meal I had. My choice was Cullen Skink for a starter and fish and chips for my main.
The Cullen Skink consisted mainly of diced potato and a scattering of dried smoked fish. The ratios of the ingredients heavily favoured the cheaper potato. The Skink was accompanied by a slice of toasted sourdough bread and some butter. The Skink was served lukewarm at best.
My main consisted of a piece of fish, which, once the batter was broken was very small and gloopy. At Scott’s prices I was expecting a fresh piece of flaky white haddock. After a few minutes, any batter that had been crispy on the outside had become a mush with the excess moisture coming from the fish. The fish was accompanied with a pile of frozen chips, and a small container of dried up mushy peas and tartare sauce. I’d had enough of the potatoes after the Skink so left most of the chips and a pile of mush that was the fish batter.
This was very poor fare. I would describe the food as pub grub, low quality pub grub, at expensive restaurant prices. Seems like they can justify their prices due to the location they have with views to the bridges. It’s not based on the quality of the food
Needless to say, I will not ever return to this establishment.

Other than the views it has little to offer.

This would be our third visit to the restaurant over a period of years. It has definitely gone downhill in that time. It started with poor table service which was followed by very mediocre but highly priced food. The wine list was a disgrace being populated by nondescript and cheap wines being sold at overly high prices. Not an experience to be repeated. The very American practice of playing loud music whilst eating creates an atmosphere which forces everyone to speak louder to the point where casual chat is impossible.

Really great service from the staff

Really great service from the staff. The location overlooking the Forth Bridges is awesome to say the least. Food was wonderful Unfortunately you lost a Star as we had to sit at the bar waiting 30 minutes for our reservation as there was no table available ...

“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious“

Everything about “Scotts at Port Edgar Marina” is definitely a plus 10. From the location, which is set against the stunning backdrop of the Three Bridges and Firth of Forth to the friendliness and efficiency of the staff, which to be fair, by far outshines the views. We were welcomed by very pleasant and professional personnel who were very attentive, ensuring we were comfortable and settled prior to providing exquisite dishes. All contributing to an excellent ambience. Food was just outstanding, I can easily recommend this location and we will most definitely be returning.

Compared with the sister restaurant based in Largs……..well there is no comparison really, our experience when visiting that location produced the “antithesis”, poor service, food delivered late and tasteless, not feeling welcomed etc etc
