Fabric quality gone downhill

Over the course of many years, I purchased quite a few Smythe pieces. However, for the past 5 years or so I have been disappointed to see that the quality of the fabrics has gone dramatically downhill. Many Smythe blazers used to be 100% wool (good quality and tight-woven) but now they use cheap polyester that feels like plastic. I initially thought I had been unluckly to get a few flops, but it turns out the brand uses abysmal-quality fabrics I can no longer justify subsidizing. The fabric of some blazers I bought recently (and returned) felt like the abrasive side of a kitchen sink sponge: plastic-like and rough. The shape of some blazers is still nicely tailored enough to catch the eye, but the use of bad fabrics in them isn't worth the price point. This brand has lost my loyalty because of how they lowered their quality standards.

Highly Disappoiting Customer Care & Service

I am genuinely disappointment with my recent experience and outcome with Smythe.

I have been a long-time customer of the brand and have consistently chosen Smythe clothing because of the quality, fit, and overall experience they represent. Over the years, I have purchased multiple jackets, pants, and blouses, and have recommended the brand to others without hesitation.

Recently, I purchased a jacket for approximately $800. That's an investment for me; a treat. I was excited to add it to my wardrobe. Unfortunately, the sizing was inconsistent with my previous purchases, e.g. the sleeves are past my fingertips. I have always been a size 6. This time the jacket was too large, and the size down was too small, leaving me with an item I cannot wear.

I attempted to return the jacket, but I was just under one week beyond your 14-day return window. I understand the importance of policies; however, given the circumstances I requested an exception — not for a refund but for a store credit so that I could continue to invest in the brand. I received one email reply and was initially told my request would be escalated.

That was nearly a month ago. Since then, nothing. I have followed up three times over the past three weeks and have received no response. Being ignored altogether has been particularly disappointing and, frankly, unacceptable for a brand positioned at their level.

A 14-day return window is already quite limited, especially for customers who travel or have demanding schedules. The unwillingness to make a reasonable exception, combined with the lack of communication, has left me feeling undervalued as a customer.

As it stands, I am now left with an $800 jacket I cannot wear and will likely have to resell on Market Place at a loss. This experience has genuinely changed how I feel about a brand I’ve trusted and enjoyed for years, which is disappointing.

Want to buy Canadian, but ….

Product is great- quality, style, sizing. HOWEVER, customer service, store policy is sub-par.
First:
takes several emails to finally hear back. Very slow to respond, or don’t respond at all.
Second:
product on web-site is not in store so have to buy on-line. Charged shipping fee. Then, when have to return because product on line looks nothing like what is shipped (Company blames ‘studio lighting’ for massive variance) customer is charged to send back AND a re-stocking charge. SO, if you have to send something back, you will end up having to eat a lot of extra charges and have nothing to show for it.
Very disappointing.

Think Twice Before Ordering Online

Think Twice Before Ordering Online
I would strongly caution anyone considering ordering from this company online. Unlike most retailers, they do not allow you to return online purchases in-store, you must ship items back - and they charge a $15 restocking fee.
In my case, I received a damaged product and was still told I needed to pay the $15 fee. Why should customers be penalized for the company sending a defective item? Initially, communication with online support was helpful, but once I questioned the restocking charge, the responses stopped completely.
If you’re interested in this brand, I recommend shopping in-store or purchasing through a retailer like Holt Renfrew, where you can try items on and expect a much better return policy and customer service.

Pretty happy customer.

I received my order promptly but’s had some trouble communicating with the company for my return. I received my money back about 8 days after returning a blazer. I love Smythe’s design quality of their clothing. Just know that if your item doesn’t fit, it will cost $10 for the return.
