Simple Practice has made lots of improvements lately but gosh do they feel expensive. The platform isn’t bad though.

Free Trial for SimplePractice? What's THAT??

I honestly can't even give a review because the free trial for SimplePractice won't work!
I've tried seven times to create the free trial. I've even gone to the help desk. I get an email saying they got the help request, but NOTHING after that. There's no phone number or way to contact anyone. I've been looking at two different platforms for controlling my business, and I guess SimplePractice isn't it. It's sad they don't want my business, because I have several colleagues who use the program. SimplePractice is expensive, and I'm not going to spend the money without trying it first. I finally received a reply from SimplePractice, but they didn't understand that when I tried to set up the trial, it just kept spinning and wouldn't set up. I even got to the verification page (Captcha) and it wouldn't give me the opportunity to even get the find a picture to finish setting it up. Their response is that if I could send a message then the account was set up. Well, then that's even worse, because why pay for something you can't even log in to!

Hi Pamela - I can definitely clarify. You are only able to create a Help Request once you have created an account. Therefore if you have been creating Help Requests, then you have already created your account. In addition to email requests, we also offer live chat and phone support options which you can learn about here: https://support.simplepractice.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002795252-Logging-in-to-SimplePractice-and-submitting-help-requests

Cannot transfer data to new EHR system

Cannot transfer data to new EHR system; Simple Practice chose a software design so so your client data cannot be transferred to another system. It would be very easy for their engineers to make your data available in EXCEL, but they made a clear decision not to do that. In EXCEL you could transfer your data with one key stroke. They know this and refuse to provide it. BAD FAITH !!! I am disgusted in myself that I chose to do business with them.

SP is a one stop shop

SP is a one stop shop. It allows me to see my clients through their video platform, charge clients, keep my calendar up-to-date, message my clients, and submit insurance claims all through the platform. Customer service is good when I need assistance on how to complete a certain task and the videos are a good resource as well.

Worst possible,horrible

Worst possible, horrible, non-existant customer service!! I have been attempting to get assistance with billing Care First since July--zero results, and it's impossible to speak with a human. I can't imagine where the positive feedback is coming from(they write their own reviews?)-total nightmare!!!

Hi Melissa - I was able to look up your account and find your Help Request that you were referring to. I see a note from one of our Insurance Specialists, Nicole A, who had a phone call with you yesterday. Our Customer Success Team was also able to connect with our clearinghouse about this issue and I see they have given you specific instructions on how to resolve the problem that you have been experiencing. Additionally, at the end of their most recent message, they offered a call link to schedule another meeting for any further questions that you have.

In regards to connecting with our Customer Success Team via phone, we do offer phone support which can be reached by clicking on the ? icon in your account > Ask Questions > No > Contact Support > Call a specialist.

More flexibility would be helpful

I appreciate all the options in simple practice but think there are additional options that would increase platform usability with the site. Specifically the ease/flexible with which SP allows you to create/store and share documents with clients, the ease with which clinicians can locate documents completed by clients, and sending clients emails through SP.

I have had repeated billing issues and they are difficult to resolve when you can’t speak directly to a person. It has been a year and I am still trying to get things straightened out which has cost me significant time and money dues to their inability to communicate correctly with an insurance payer.

Listens to customers feedback

I think that Simple Practice does a great job at asking for feedback and listening to the feedback and making changes. I appreciate that and I can assume other clinicians do as well.

I do think that it would be helpful to allow more individualized plans for smaller practices. For example, I would really utilize the appointment reminders if it was an add on or the two way calendar sync.

However, I can’t afford the higher plans and do not profit enough for my solo practice to pay for that plan.

Living in a rural area, our clients cannot afford to pay much for therapy and we are here for our community so we do not charge what other clinicians charge. Therefore our profit is much lower.

SimplePractice is a great tool!

I appreciate the simplicity of most of SimplePractices procedures. For the most part it is not hard to learn! There are some aspects that are more challenging, like finding forms and documents that you use as a part of your intake package. However, SimplePractice is by far the easiest and least complicated EHR System I have ever used.

FAQs are NOT legally binding

FAQs are NOT legally binding.

The SP new terms and conditions ARE legally binding.

It is my understanding that the SP new terms and conditions include
- therapists waiving intellectual property rights
- therapists waiving the right to morally object
- therapists waiving the right to class action
- clauses for SP to retain data in perpetuity

It is my understanding that EHRs are like a filing cabinet, The filing cabinet does not own the data inside the filing cabinet.

(This is a response to previously posted concerns)

Hi there - Our Terms of Services are written in legal language and our FAQs are a guideline for how to interpret what our Terms of Services actually say. We discovered after releasing this update to our Terms of Services that a lot of our customers were struggling to understand what the legal language in the document actually meant for them and their accounts, so our FAQ was an answer to that to help further explain things.

Easy to use, cost effective, no paper!!

I like the simplicity of use, cost efficiency, ability to do everything online (no physical paper = trees saved, and space in my clinic), and the relative ease of learning to use the program to the extent for which I require it.

Nice program - very easy to bill insurers!

I am a psychiatrist and reviewed several options. I eventually settled on Simple Practice because it was broadly used (e.g., I was concerned about Luminello because it was such a small company), and I did not want to have to switch EHRs due to changes impacting the EHR company. I have found Simple Practice very easy to use - it is easy to set up appointments and write notes. Additionally, the automatic appointment reminders have likely saved me many hundreds of dollars already. I have also found it very easy to use for billing insurances or the patients directly and then providing them a superbill. After using this EHR for only a few months, I cannot imagine why behavioral health specialists would want to work with a separate billing agency that takes a percentage of the claims for doing very little work. I submit claims daily (takes less than 1 minute per claim) and, if there is an issue, I often know of it within 24 hours and can fix it within a couple of minutes. If I used a biller, this process would be much more drawn out. My only complaints about Simple Practice is that it doesn't include a prescribing tool (I use MDToolbox), an integrated HIPAA compliant fax function, or a way to order and trend blood work easily. Otherwise, I have found this EHR to be excellent and have had no substantive issues.

Best platform for sole practitioners (SEE EDIT AT BOTTOM)

CONCERNING EDIT AT BOTTOM

It’s not the cheapest option and there are other, better, options for any individual aspect (notes, billing, etc), but it is absolutely a lifesaver as a platform. Everything in one place makes my life so much easier that I haven’t seriously considered switching in a very long time. They also finally implemented 2FA so I have some joy in that, since I had been asking for it for a while. I’m very pleased with their support staff and the overall ease of use.

In fact, I think that as a whole you can’t find a better EHR / billing platform for sole practitioners.

EDIT: Updated Terms of Service include VERY worrying language: "By uploading or submitting any User Data to or through the Services, and permitting other Users (including, without limitation, Clients) to upload any User Data into the Services, You hereby automatically at such time grant SimplePractice (and its affiliates) a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid-up, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable (through multiple tiers), and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, perform and display such User Data (including User Data that is created, collected or generated by the Services or SimplePractice using the User Data Users submit), for the purposes of providing you the Services and further developing, improving, and marketing SimplePractice’s products and services (including the Services), it being understood that the results generated from use for purposes other than providing the Services are not identifiable with the Organization or any natural person." I do not know that I can recommend them at this time. I recommend finding a legal opinion on their use of user data that holds weight (CAMFT, for example) before engaging their services.

A great platform overall!

The platform does *almost* everything I want it to and does it quite well. There are some non-intuitive parts (like navigating to specific docs/forms to edit them),but overall I have been very happy with my experience.
