Awful service, booking cancelled day before and was lied to multiple times
The service I received from Sixt was an absolute disgrace, was lied to multiple times by different people and abruptly had my booking cancelled a DAY before pick-up.
I received a call from the Milton Keynes branch, regarding something about my booking not having a damage waiver and so they cannot rent the car to me without paying an additional £22 a day for the basic protection package. I explained to her that i booked via the website and selected no extra protection (i booked with them in January 2026 and did the same thing and had no problem renting the car) and she told me that i needed a basic protection to rent the car, generally - which is definitely not the case as nowhere on their website does it say this.
She then proceeded to tell me that she would call me back to confirm. After I missed her call due to being on a wor call i then received an email saying my booking was cancelled about 30 seconds later. After i had finished my work call i proceeded to call back and had someone tell me that the booking had been cancelled because the car wasn’t available and validation failed. I asked him that i received a call earlier about basic protection and damage waivers and at no time was any of that mentioned, i then asked to speak to the original person to which he told me she would call me back.
An hour later they called and explained that she had taken the £22 a day quote for basic protection (it was £4 a day on the website, id like to add) to higher ups to which they put my driving license through security checks and it failed apparently. This service is a complete shambles, at no point did i want to be upselled, the website doesnt say that basic protection is needed to rent a car, and my security checks failed randomly when she was checking if she could get me a discount, at no point did i ask for this.
To confirm i have been left without a car a day before i need it, when i had booked a week ago, get called a day before saying that i had no damage waiver on the booking (which is included as standard with rental cars) and it being framed like she was doing me a favour by trying to ask for a discount.
I raised this with their customer service via telephone and they were no help at all, they told me if i had a complaint to email it in…. To the very same time i was on the phone to. They then confirmed i was lied to with the reason they cancelled my booking because of availability. They then offered a miserable £20 voucher… which was definitely not enough as i had to pay more elsewhere a day before i was going on a trip.
Absolutely disgusting service, had them tell me that i was lied to, they tried to offer £20 voucher when i had to pay £80 extra for alternative transportation. Will never be doing any business with them moving forward and will definitely be taking this further, i have asked for copies of all call recordings of them lying to me multiple times.
Professional front desk let down by garage staff
The reception desk at Nice airport was professionally staffed and I received a nice greeting. The size of car I asked for was not available and the car I received (at the same price unfortunately) seemed smaller than I had originally intended. Saying that the car was new and acceptable, just a bit small for a 6’5” driver.
Not being too ‘tech savvy’ I struggled with the key box/scanning receipt to release the keys at the garage level. Ordinarily I wouldn’t mention this, but there were three SIXT employees stood talking behind me and despite gesturing to them that I was struggling, no one reacted. Somehow I managed to get the key.
After that the car was fine, albeit a reversing camera and in- built sat nav should have been included.
Would I book them again? not sure…might see what others offer for my next trip there shortly.

The car was clean, only issue was no water in window washer. Another issue is charging for a full electric recharge when is was 50% full. I think they should charge the actual amount of recharge at a reasonable charge cost.

I arrived at Munster airport Germany when I get out I saw a big sign for sixt car rental just right to the exit way
I went there before 4 pm found a lovely staff helped me to collect the key upgrade the car I rent and show me where to find the car and show me the box when I return the car to put in the key
Very smooth the car is nice and comfortable the tank is ful it take about 7 minutes from the way out to be on the road .
When I came back return the car which I parked on the same parking dropped the key it's almost 2 minutes only

I used SIXT at Birmingham airport, I was let down by another company and went to SiXT, they helped me out with a super quick turn around and got me in a car and on my journey in quick time despite suffering from internet problems. Bal was the name of the Birmingham hub assistant, legend. Dug out to get me a car for the right price. I will use them again.
Bad experience with SIxt trying to rent a cargo van
Went to Putney to rent a cargo van to drive to Germany. I discussed the rental and the fact that I needed a cargo van to go to continental Europe with them to retrieve belongings, at length on the telephone, in advance. When I got to the rental office I was informed that it was not possible to take a cargo van to the continent and I left empty handed. Because of this I had to not only rent a van from another company a couple of weeks later, with penalty charges for changing Eurotunnel dates, but I also had to take a Eurostar to retrieve belongings needed immediately. I had no such issues when I previously rented from Sixt Germany to come to Britain. I will never use Sixt UK again.

Extremely disappointing experience with SIXT surrounding a vehicle rental arranged immediately prior to my wedding.
I originally booked a BMW 5 Series and later contacted customer services to upgrade the booking to an X5 for the wedding arrangements.
During those discussions, I was informed that the X5 category was unavailable nationally. I was then told that an XC90 would instead be provided and was assured that the matter had been resolved and the vehicle would definitely be available upon arrival.
I also expressly confirmed during the call that nothing else about the booking should change other than the vehicle category itself.
However, when the amended booking later appeared on the system, it had somehow been changed into an X2 category booking instead — something I had never requested or agreed to — together with additional extras such as sat nav and unlimited mileage which I had also never asked for.
Upon arriving at the SIXT London Gatwick / Hilton Hotel branch immediately prior to my wedding, I was then informed that the promised XC90 was not actually available.
At that point, I was suddenly told that an X5 — the same vehicle category I had previously been informed was unavailable — was in fact available, but only at a massively inflated same-day rate.
I was initially being pushed towards figures in the region of approximately £1,500 plus extras. After extensive discussions, the figure eventually came down, but I still ended up being charged approximately £1,211.64 plus further charges for a situation that should never have happened in the first place.
The complaint-handling process afterward was equally concerning.
I spoke with customer service representatives repeatedly over multiple calls and was repeatedly assured that complaints had been escalated, managers would call back, and notes had been properly added to the system.
Despite this, callbacks frequently never happened, calls were disconnected without return contact, and later representatives often appeared unable to locate or verify important prior discussions, complaint notes, proposed resolutions, or refund discussions that had taken place earlier.
At various stages, vouchers, partial refunds, larger refunds, and eventually even a full refund were discussed during calls — only for later representatives to appear unaware of previous conversations and revert back to earlier positions again.
The overall experience left me with serious concerns regarding both the handling of the rental itself and the consistency and accuracy of the complaint-handling process afterward.
I have now formally requested review and preservation of all relevant call recordings, complaint notes, booking amendments, and account records.
Very disappointing experience overall, particularly given the circumstances and timing immediately prior to a wedding.

Very disappointing experience with SIXT.
I collected a vehicle at approximately 07:30 and returned it around 10:35 the same day, so the car was only in my possession for around 3 hours. Despite this, SIXT later added over €100 in “additional mileage” charges claiming the vehicle had exceeded the allowance by approximately 330 extra miles/km.
This makes absolutely no sense based on the rental timeframe. I drove approximately 150km maximum. It would have been practically impossible to complete the level of travel they are alleging within 3 hours, especially including collection and airport return time.
What makes it even more questionable is that SIXT also claimed the vehicle only required around 7 litres of fuel to refill. That fuel usage aligns far more closely with the distance I actually drove, not the excessive mileage they are claiming.
I also prepaid for the “Refuelling and Charging Service” shown on the original invoice, specifically so I could return the vehicle directly to the airport without refuelling myself. Despite this, I was still charged additional fuel costs afterwards.
Customer service repeatedly states they “have evidence” but so far have not properly provided the underlying odometer records, telematics or supporting documentation I requested.
Very frustrating experience and extremely poor handling of a genuine billing dispute.

This is the second time I've used sixt at krakow airport, and both times the process has been flawless. The staff have been polite and helpful with no pushy salesmanship, the cars have been higher spec than I expected/booked.
Extra insurance sold, was this necessary?
I was told the insurance I'd prepaid for when booking through Booking.com was insufficient and had to pay £113.70 more for a 5 day rental.

I hired a car from Faro in Portugal and…
I hired a car from Faro in Portugal and returned it on the 16th April, a Sixt member of staff checked it and I was sent the closing invoice. 3 weeks later on the 7th May I received a damaged report which I thought must be fraud relating to this hire. My credit card has now been charged for damages that were definitely not there when the car was returned.
This is some kind of fraud and I will never use Sixt again.
