Really bad experience with these crooks - avoid!
Really bad experience. Was shown around the car by a lovely gent in Barcelona, he ran me through details of the existing damage, on all visible panels, but nothing on the underside of the bumper. I asked if this should be checked, but he said only to worry about visible panels. It was all smooth roads throughout, however a week after returning the car in Bilbao I am hit with a 463 euro bill for 'damage'. Strange, I think to myself. Upon reviewing the images sent over, it is scratches along the underside of the front and rear bumpers, that can only be described as wear and tear, or existing damage from another rental before mine. These marks were not visible unless you lie down under the car and look up at them. I can't fathom how these would have happened on my rental, driving along straight, flat roads. I wasn't to know as I wasn't shown these parts of the vehicle upon the initial inspection and told not to worry about it upon collecting my vehicle. I will never use this company of dishonest crooks again, really sour taste left.

very easy check in and collection via App so no queuing. Easy to find car in car park. Good quality car in excellent condition. Easy return process.
Very professional
Very professional, car was clean and ready when I arrived, no delays on collection, this is the second time I have booked in the USA and will highly recommend, we will be using again next year.
Amazing customer service!
I received amazing customer service at the SIXT desk at Gare du Nord. It was my first time renting with them and it went so smoothly. Sirine walked us through the process and answered any questions and queries we had. I would definitely recommend SIXT to friends and family!
Have used Sixt numerous times at Faro

Glasgow staff were awesome....
Glasgow staff were awesome as were the office, the manager and her staff in glasgow fully understood my needs and gave me a new Cupra, awesome car.
From start to finish they were great!
Not the best experience with Sixt i…
Not the best experience with Sixt i have to admit, I am sure most rental companies have similar policies in place but it was the first time I hired a car for overseas travel in Finland and I selected my choice of car and price online. When we arrived at the airport with our documents to collect the car, we realised by the guy on the desk that there was a lot of upselling which we didnt appreciate, we were told we could upgrade our car to something more comfortable on the highway with better fuel economy. We said ok, but went to collect the car and it went from our choice of a Toyota Yaris to a Skoda Octavia estate car! We thought its not necessary to have a car as big as that and asked for the keys to the original car instead which they were happy to do, but it was time and hassle we didnt really need walking to and from the airport terminal to the car park twice over.
The guy also suggested we could prepay fuel which would be at a cheaper rate than that at the fuel pump, which basically meant we didnt need to fill the car up to the max on our return journey. When the bill came through they charged us 66.80 EUR, somehow I dont think it costs that much to fill up a Toyota Yaris! And i know it doesnt because we paid 40 EUR to fill up during our trip and it filled the tank fully, so just another example of an upsell and additional cost.
When we got home, we noticed the original charge we paid initially online was credited and replaced with a new billed invoice which was more expensive than the original charge because of add ons such as a 25 EUR premium location fee, a Vehicle License Fee, which took the total to more than the original charge, hidden fees not appreciated! I also noticed they forgot to remove the car upgrade fee, which when questioned apologised about it and refunded us quickly.
Finally we were unlucky to obtain a car park fine, and Sixt charged us a 40 EUR fee for it, which was basically to email an invoice out, the car park fine fee itself, which we had to pay direct to the car park, not Sixt cost us 6.80EUR, so the 40 EUR fee from Sixt was not welcome either (They also charged that fine twice for some reason as my bank account showed -69 GBP, again when questioned they were quick to resolve and issue a refund for but its just another example of incompetence and hassle you dont really need.
On reflection i wont be using Sixt again because of the price, and upsell, with hidden costs that arent clear at the time of online purchase.
I feel I have been scammed
I am extremely disappointed with my experience of Sixt and feel other customers should be aware of what can happen when booking one of their prepaid rates.
I paid approximately €129 for a rental car but had to cancel the booking before collecting the vehicle. Despite never receiving a car, never visiting the rental location and never using any service whatsoever, Sixt refunded only €30 and retained around €99.
Sixt’s position is that this is allowed under their terms and conditions. However, regardless of whether it is legally permitted, I find it very difficult to see how retaining almost 80% of the booking value for a service that was never provided can be considered fair or customer-focused.
The most frustrating part is that the financial penalty bears little resemblance to any actual loss suffered by the company. From a customer’s perspective, it feels as though I have paid a substantial amount of money and received absolutely nothing in return.
Had the consequences of cancelling been made sufficiently clear to me at the time of booking, I would never have chosen this rate. I appreciate that terms and conditions exist, but hiding behind contractual small print to justify retaining such a large sum of money leaves a very poor impression.
Customers should be extremely careful when booking with Sixt and should read every detail of the cancellation policy before committing to a prepaid reservation. My experience has been that a simple change of plans resulted in the loss of almost the entire booking value, despite no vehicle ever being supplied.
Whether this policy is legal or not, it does not feel fair, reasonable or reflective of good customer service. As a result of this experience, I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.
I have been renting my car 6 monthly…
I have been renting my car 6 monthly period from sixt UK/Nottingham branch and paying around £700 each month.
I am fined from parking companu , it is because I have put my plate number incorrectly by mistake and my fine has been deducted to £20 from £100 which has been found genuine human error. HOWEVER I have been charged extra £40 by sixt under administration fee. This is UNFAIR.
How administration fee can be more expensive than actual fine ? I am not a customer who rents a car in daily. It is totally unacceptable and ridiculous service.
I am changing my rental car company immediately.
They took a £3,000 deposit in case of…
They took a £3,000 deposit in case of damage, we returned the car and it was confirmed and signed off that there was no damage and it has now been 27 days and we have chased the company and still not had our money back!!!! If it was the other way round they would have took the money immediately, but when it’s them owing the customer their money back they don’t care. Absolutely terrible.
Helpful people in the shops, not so great at headoffice.
They will automatically pay any PCN uou receive without telling you and then add "admin fees". Had one for tfl which was TFL'S fault and i emailed sixt straight away advising them not to pay so I challenge. They decided to pay and charge me extra. Been over a week and no response from sixt.
Any fines you receive, they will add £30-40 extra.
Tbf the staff at the shop were great and provided me with an alternative car but unfortunately these penalty charges left a sour taste.
Sixt provided an overall professional…
Sixt provided an overall professional and efficient rental experience. The process was smooth, transparent, and well-organised.
I want to specifically commend Larah at the Glasgow branch for her outstanding service. She was friendly, approachable, and handled everything efficiently. Great customer care.
Highly recommended.
Never Again Sixt
Never Again Sixt – Prepaid Booking Turned into a £450 Insurance Trap at Manchester Airport (Diamond Member)
Posted by: SeanB (Diamond Card holder for years)
Just had one of the worst car rental experiences of my life with Sixt at Manchester Airport and I’m warning everyone: avoid them like the plague.
I booked and prepaid £600 weeks in advance for a rental (26 April – 15 May). Smooth online process, confirmed booking, no warnings about anything. As a long-standing Diamond Card member who’s rented with them many times without issue, I expected a straightforward pickup.
Arrive at the counter. The guy looks at my booking and immediately demands an extra £450 for insurance. I show proof of my own comprehensive global rental car insurance — he doesn’t care. No mention of any credit check, background check, or “failed eligibility.” The car was apparently ready to go as soon as I paid the upsell. I refused on principle and walked away without the vehicle.
Then the gaslighting begins. Sixt’s responses over WhatsApp and email kept changing:
• First it was about the insurance.
• Then suddenly I “failed a third-party risk assessment.”
• Latest version: “negative credit check result.”
All with zero evidence and the classic line “we don’t have access to the details.” Clause 18 of their terms, apparently. Funny how these mysterious checks only kick in at pickup after you’ve prepaid and flown there — never flagged weeks earlier.
BVRLA reviewed it and basically shrugged: “They explained it via their terms, so tough luck. Here’s your refund (eventually).”
Bottom line: The advertised £600 “drive away” price is misleading nonsense. You’re booking blind, with the real cost and approval only decided at the counter when you’re tired and have no options. As a loyal Diamond customer this feels like a complete betrayal.
I will never rent from Sixt again — personally or for business — and I strongly recommend everyone else steers clear. There are plenty of better options (Enterprise, National, etc.) that don’t treat prepaid bookings like a lottery.
Has anyone else been hit with this at Manchester or elsewhere? Booking ref 9733153345 if Sixt wants to comment.
Sixt.com
Although this is Sixt UK, I use this portal to book car hire when travelling abroad. Most frequently at Malaga Airport. The collection is swift. The cars are always low mileage and in good condition. The drop off is seamless. I cannot fault the service I have received.
Consistently good
Ease of reserving the vehicle via the Sixt app. Pick up at Edinburgh Airport was efficient, vehicle was as expected ( make and model)
Upon returning the vehicle; the representative was friendly, checked the vehicle condition, explained my final invoice and sent me an email, all in under 3-4 minutes.
Overall another good experience at EdI airport, this is my 6th rental in the last 8 months and the process has been consistent. Will continue to use Sixt whenever I need a rental vehicle
Car provided at very short notice
SIXT provided a car at very short notice after another rental company pick-up failed at the airport. Car provided was identical to booked class (BMW 1 series), was near new and spotlessly clean on collection. Desk staff at pick-up were charming, proud of their island (Sardinia) and even provided tips on our touring itinerary!
Return at different location (for which no one-way drop off fee) was clearly sign-posted, was smooth, quick and staff helpful.
Charging us for a fuel refill
We had a really great experience with Sixt at Charles de Gaulle airport until we retuned and about a week later received a refilling bill of £90. We returned the car at the fuel level they give it to us as at but on return they are claiming they gave the car to us with a full tank- they did not! I took a photo shortly after we collected the car showing there was 1/3 of a tank but they are still claiming they gave it to us full. This would mean we used 2/3 of a tank in an hour- this would not be possible! We can't seem to get any sort of refund from them.
Worst experience -very poor communications.
The first experience was, after booked online I tried to pick the car one day in advance but unfortunately the agent tried to charged doubled the price. The most disadvantage we cannot call the company and also they not communicate e mail. All the e mail we receiving as no reply. Customers has no choice to contact company. After i returned the car they deducted more money without inform and a valid reasons. Also they have Whats-app chat but no one message responsible way. Looks like they rip money from customers. I have seen many reviews similar to my situation. This is genuine experience, I am still writing them to clarify those deductions and unreasonable deductions as well.
Great Sixt service at Bastia airport
Great Sixt service at Bastia airport. The car was an EV - which I hadn’t expected - but I really enjoyed driving it through the winding mountain roads of Corsica. We took up the offer of the unlimited charging card which cost €57 and then no further charges when we charged the car’s batteries. There were sufficient chargers installed around the island. No problems experienced and a great service at a good price.
Greattttt
Great service always try their best to sort the best car available for you
