Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the service, citing frequent flight cancellations and delays, often without proper notification or explanation. Customers also found the pricing to be misleading, as numerous additional fees for baggage and seat selection significantly increased the final cost. The customer service was widely criticized for being unhelpful, difficult to reach, and unresponsive, with staff often described as rude, disrespectful, and lacking knowledge. Some people were dissatisfied with the cancellation process, noting that return flights were sometimes automatically canceled without notice if the outbound flight was missed. However, some customers also mentioned that for the price, the service was acceptable, and the flights got them to their destination safely and on time.

Giving one star becasue zero isn't an option. Have a 45 minute arrival at gate rule. Wouldnt let us past despite a known accident back up on way to airport. Wouldnt rebook. Walked away, ate the far and got on JetBlue and haven't looked back. Customer service is not in their vocabulary!

Don’t fly with SPIRIT!

Bought round trip air fare, then found out it didn’t include seating or carry on or luggage! So, bought seating and carry on’s that never was sent to air line and had to do a 3rd and 4th payments again!! Such a rip off! Air fare that was supposed to be great turned into a very expensive flight!! Never again will I fly with spirit!

It's not even that bad

You know, for as much hate as Spirit Airlines gets, they're actually really not that bad. The problem is people pay $75 for a flight and then expect top-tier service. That's unfortunately not possible, but the flight attendants and cabin crew are super nice and treat you like humans which isn't true of some other legacy carriers (*cough cough* United *cough cough*)

WORST AIRLINE EVER

WORST AIRLINE EVER!
Do yourself a favour, DO NOT book or fly with this horrible airline.
Check-in with self tagged bags took over an hour in Miami airport with one person working behind the counter. My suitcase arrived heavily damaged in LGA. However Spirit refuses to compensate, because damage was not discovered and reported within 4 hours after arrival. Spirit baggage office was locked and unmanned. UNBELIEVABLE!

Crew issues

I love that you guys are flying Airbus fleet which is considered much safer than Boeing these days, but you need to sort out your staffing issues. My flight from Las Vegas to Chicago was delayed for 3.5 hours because your crew clocked out..

Terrible

Cancelled flight after delaying it 3 times while waiting at the airport. Offered a flight 3 days later or a refund. We were travelling the US from europe so we couldnt just drive back home and wait 3 days. Spirit said it wasnt their problem and are making excuses about why they are not to blame. Had to split up the family and book with other airlines. When we complained at the counter they told us if we wanted a better experience we shouldnt have booked a flight with spirit airlines. Is this company for real ?

"Flight Canceled, Higher-Priced Alternative Offered – Poor Customer Service!"

"I booked a flight 6 weeks ago. Today, I received information that this flight was canceled due to operational reasons, without any proper explanation or communication. No additional information was provided whatsoever. Interestingly, another flight on the same day at a different time is now being offered at a higher price. This makes me wonder if this is part of their business model. I am extremely frustrated with this experience. Very poor customer service!"

Sitting on tarmac for over an hour

Been sitting on the tarmac for about an hour due to some IT issue. Whoever installed an IT system for efficiency’s sake without having human backup processes should be fired.

Far too stupid to run an airline

This company doesn't need to be bought out, they need to be canceled.

These people are so seriously stupid that they can't even log their own customers in to their own existing accounts.

How would you like to spend 2 1/2 hours on the phone just to log into your own account? To book one simple flight! All the while talking to one person after another, none of whom listen to you, and all of whom who are not only basically imcompenent they are downright rude when you have to correct them for the 10th time.

And their listed prices are insultingly dishonest. Every piece of checked baggage and every carry-on are charged at a price higher than the fare. Keep that in mind when you compare fares to those of a real airline

I suggest that you be smarter than i was and spend your money somewhere else, even if its a little more. The meagre savings are ridiculously far from worth the aggravation of even trying to deal with this company.

Spirit Airline's rating is actually 0.3 stars not 1.3 stars because you are not allowed to vote zero.

Horible customer service

Horible customer service, stole 120 dollar, I had a flight booked, autocorrection messed up my last name with one extra letter added, so i cancelled it to change the name, however i wasnt able to use the code I received which held the money because its not the same last name. Now customer service doesnt want to help me get my 120 dollar to apply to the next flight, just horrible... this company stole the money....

Ridiculous expectations, terrible customer service, no responsibility

I appreciated the routes they offer compared to other airlines, but the customer service is abominable if anything goes wrong. My issue came after Spirit lost my baggage on an international flight. The baggage was never delivered to my home and Spirit made no effort to communicate with me regarding the status of my lost bag claim after they found my baggage (and subsequently failed to deliver it). I incurred over $100 in expenses as a result of their mistake, and a year later still have not been reimbursed. They now claim that I didn't read the full terms and conditions when I was dropping my bag off after clearing customs and racing to my connecting (Spirit) flight...absolutely ridiculous. They made me jump through hoop after hoop only to keep placing obstacles in my path for reimbursement.
If you can afford any other airline, use it. Spirit is just not worth the risk.

Spirit never fails to disappoint!

Why did I fall for Spirit cheap fairs? Never again! Their pricing is the ultimate Bait and Switch. Want to check in luggage? $70! Not the normal $35 or $40. Want to bring a carry-on? Not so fast - that will be $70 as well! For a carry-on!

Now this is where it starts to get interesting. For my flight to LAX, I tried to check in at the kiosk and it wasn't working. After trying several times, I waited in line to talk to a representative. When I got to the counter she said I was checking in within 45 minutes and that wasn't allowed. It was literally 44 minutes, time-stamped on the error ticket the kiosk printed. Mind you, I was not checking in luggage and I'm TSA pre-check. I regularly get to the airport within 45 minutes and make my flight without any issues. Not with Spirit.

She then proceeded to tell me that since I "missed my flight", they'd have to charge me $100 to go on the next flight. They wouldn't put me on standby at no charge like other airlines! Are you for real? After arguing for a few minutes, I paid the $100 because I knew I could get to the gate and try to catch my flight. Of course, I made it to the gate with extra time, only to have the gate agent tell me, I wasn't on that flight and would have to pay another $100 to change it back to the original. Now, I was really pissed! I let her have it and then finally obliged to pay the $100 to avoid waiting at the airport for 3 hours until the next flight. And then, she had the gall to tell me, "Oh, I'm sorry, we need to close the doors in a few minutes and I won't have time to process all the computer work to change the ticket". I lost my *ish. The door was still open!

Spirit's main objective is to screw the passenger out of as much money as possible and making flying a horrible experience. DON'T FALL FOR THEIR BAIT AND SWITCH PRICING - YOU'LL REGRET IT!

Horrible experience

Horrible experience, starting with the lack of education of the attendants at the boarding gate, 5 pm Boston-Baltimore flight after everyone on board noticed defects in the plane. Everyone returned to the waiting room and waited for the next flight until 8:45 pm and again after everyone was on another plane ready to continue the trip, another problem was contacted, everyone returned to the waiting room, looking for solutions and were treated rudely by the attendants. It was only possible to have one plane that worked at least to take off and start the flight at 10:40 pm. Without any support or consideration, there were elderly people, mothers with their babies waiting for services since before 5:00 pm. Spirit Airlines has terrible, horrible service. I do not recommend it! Certainly everyone who sought Spirit Airlines service on 09/04/2024 5:00 pm Boston-Baltimore flight that became a 10:40 pm flight will talk about the same horrible experience.

If there are any lawyers that see a case here please help me. The airline at Chicago airport forced me to buy a return ticket through them. I asked them if their policy offers full refund to visa within 24 hours and if it needs to be more than 7 days. The staff said the 7 days is a non issue and that a full refund will be issued to my visa. They then insisted on buying a ticket 5 days from today. I said I’d rather add a week to be safe and they said it’s not necessary. I took their word and let them purchase the ticket. After purchasing the ticket I cancelled my flight within 24 hours and wasn’t eligible for refund to visa be because it was under 7 days. After a lot of effort the manager said he changed it so it will be returned to my visa. I called the help centre and this was not the case.

Trying to be a high end carrier by introducing Bundled pricing. What Spirit flying demographic wants to be forced into paying for a check bag, a carry on bag, wifi, priority boarding and a Big Front seat without an option to chose a la carte? No economic or demographic testing anlayses were done here. Thank you for making my flight from Oakland to Bakersfield so horrible.

Always been amazing

I know you get what you pay for. BUT, I've had horrible experiences on the 2 big vowel airlines, and honestly, spirit has ALWAYS been amazing. I was flying every few weeks, no issues. The one time we had a plane issue, i received vouchers and credits. Employees have always been great. I do wish they would do their good status based on points, that's annoying.

Spirit should be renamed SpirSH*T

Spirit 1362 was scheduled 8/3/2024 for 11:57PM PST departure. After concourse change, 4 gate changes, 7 departure changes and OVER 9 HOURS OF DELAYS, flight was CANCELLED. Walked to ticket counter. Not ONE agent there! Went to spirit.com and was promised $170.48 full refund. Spirit refunded $90.30 ($80.13 missing) so I disputed credit card charge. I will NEVER fly SpirSH*T again!
